Jason are you listen to the public???

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Scarab Sages

i been slowing going through the beta and it seems that while a few things that had outcries were fixed alot still was left, even though there was a large outcry to change them, to list 2 CMB DC 15 and concentration. There was overwheling posts to fix these and it seems nothing was done? i wont get into the various think tank posts either but it seems to be the classes didnt really get touched even though again there was a large outcry to make fighter better and monk different. so if the designers are listen to our comments why have some many not been taken into account when clearly we as the playtester had issues with them.

The Exchange

The Alpha 3 to the Beta changes were minimal because of the need to get the stuff out the door and to the printer a couple months before the Beta due date. I assume that some of that stuff wasn't decided until(or if at all) after the cutoff time. Now there is 8 or so months to playtest and fix stuff so hopefully this stuff will all be addressed by then....

Yes—the primary focus of Jason's time between Alpha 3 and Beta was on adding 250 pages of new material, not revising the material that already existed. We'll begin to focus on revisions shortly.

Personally I like the way Concentration is with Spellcraft now. I do not want it the way it was. This gives Clerics and Sorcerers one additional skill to take and make them more useful in that regard.

Yeah, but now you can't play the sorcerer who casts just because it feels right without really knowing how it all works. I mean, you can, but you're screwed if you ever want to cast in less-than-stellar situations, and if anything, he should have an easier time compensating than those who do it by calculation.

I would prefer splitting them again, but making Concentration actually worth taking on it's own so it's not just a spellcasting tax.

If they get split and Concentration is once again a must have for spellcasters I suggest giving sorcerers and clerics 4 skill points per level.

Just wizards.

What is wrong with the CMB +15? Other than maybe making it a 20 or 25 instead. It certainly is not anywhere near too high. As it is, the attacker, above level 10, has almost no chance to fail except on a roll of 1.

I do suppose that needs to be fixed in the worst way. It makes any attack other than a maneuver less desirable.

Wouldn't be a problem if everyone's BAB and AC were standardized. :)

Do you have any idea how long it takes to edit and prep more the 300 pages?

Do you know the glacial speeds print turnarounds go at? Real publishing ain't Kinko's.
What you're suggesting is akin to using the QE2 for a speedboat obstacle course.

On a sidenote I would pay good money to see that. Bacl on topic agree with many of the posters above.

I lot of words were spoken about these things... but there was hardly a consensus. Concentration, Spellcraft, Knowledge Arcana... how on earth can a sorcerer be good at magic at all if he doesn't even have enough skill points to keep up?

In any case Jason is on the Abilities and races board and focused on that right now. Bring this stuff up when he's focused on it.

I don't. Spellcasters don't need skills. Concentration, sure, Spellcraft, maybe, but everything else is a luxury. Wizards have the high Int they need to get those knowledge skills they're famous for and Clerics and Sorcerers don't really have anything pressing they need. If they really want more skills, they can get an above-average Int or play a human.
