So use different colors or something. The layout makes it easy to spot what a power is and does. Color-code by class, or by duration within class, or something.
Multicolored tabs and titles ? Please no either.
I like my D&D books without flashy colors, not like a Magic the Gathering catalog (no offense to MtG players).

Agreed. Switching to a 4e-like format would be terrible. First, it would look copy-cat. Second, they would look like cogs you could insert into a round of combat to accomplish a goal, not magic spells which alter the universe to better suit you.

The beta, meanwhile, sold out at Gen Con in less than 9 hours.
Yeah, but how many copies? If they only brought 3 copies, nine hours would be pretty pathetic.

Heck, why not call it Mazes and Monsters?
I second it. Maybe Paizo can get Tom Hanks to endorse it as well. Ok its settled then. The new name is "Mazes and Monsters: A Pathfinder Chronicles Roleplaying Game that is not Dungeon's and Dragons because we can copy everything else from 3.5 except the name." I think that actually might leave room for a little cover art too. Maybe a naked anime-style goblin in the corner with violet who-ville hair holding a lollypop. Thats fairly unique. People will love it. I'm on board. I'll only buy this game if it has those things. Oh, and if they buy my 4e books for 3 cents and then publically light them on fire while dancing in circles shouting "Shub-Nirgoth, iya iya" at least 5 times. Then, and only then, will they have my sale. Oh and I want a pony.
Thanks

Good point, and actually more on the lines of what I meant. So let me rephrase that: Criticise the critique.
*mutter* stupid false friends, Kritiker -> critic but Kritik-> criticism, they do that on purpose, I told you, bugrit, millenium hand and shrimp...*

I find it amusing that the new gnome has inspired so many people since they basically just ripped off the new look for them.. and upon further examination of the picture most of the style in the undies pick from WoW. There are key differences but the ears.. the builds.. the cutsie factor.. Don't get me wrong.. I like WoW.. But I like it for WoW.. As for the name pathfinder.. They could call it 'Sky Cheese and Monkey Cannons' for all i care.. Its still gonna be 'D&D' in my head much the same as 4th Ed will be 'Horrendous Aborted Game Zombie Fetus That I'm Glad I Pirated Scans of Before I shelled Out Money'.. Yup.. Good ole' HAGZFTIGIPS o' BISOM

Lodoss Wars? Anime/manga in general?

Vargrboartusk - just to nip it in the bud, let me be the first to ask you not to discuss your illegal thievery on the boards. It creates conflict and makes the owners of the board upset. Thanks.
I'm gonna belatedly point out that my comment was meant more in jest then as an actual admission of anything I did.. I read the stupid things in the game store after my Warlord card tourny but before my Vampire LARP.. That however doesn't sound as good in the midst of a rant..

Hate 'em.. Fiery passion.. Loathe and detest anime and almost every unholy abomination spawned by it.. Only thing i hate more then american anime otaku are the katanaphiles who go on and on about how japanese swords and techniques are the bestest most superkewel evar. I'll refrain from saying how I really feel to keep anyone from getting upset but lets just say I wish general bad things to the island kingdom of nippon in a George Carlin like ranting way

WoW, you should come to our faction, prejudice like that will get you far in a Lawful Evil society ;-P
I won't deny that a lot of that anime stuff is utter crap, but there's quite decent stuff out there, too.

One more word and I'll open a can of Iaido on your lower back and then Bushido you to within an inch of your life - and Kenjutsu you the rest of the way. All with my totally superior Gin Su Katana.
And I'm totally not joking.
Or maybe I am.

Yep, Sturgeon's Law applies to anime as much as almost everything else. Damned if you can get some people to recognize that though. I can see where a lot of his negativity can be fostered, you know the guys that think anything from Japan instantly = BETTER. Of course you get those guys stuck on any nationality. I've lost count of how many times I've tried te get manga fanboys and American comic fanboys to calm the hell down and recognize that there's great and awful stuff coming from both sides of the ocean.
Anyway, the original point was that the ear designs and whatnot aren't necessarily from WoW, which often gets more credit for some things than it deserves(and sometimes not enough for others).
Hell, Tony DiTerlizzi rocked the long ears sometimes and no one ever accused him of ripping anyone off.
Okay, Froud and Rackham, but he came out and stated they were his major inspirations at least.
But back on the subject of Pathfinder's art: I love that they pull influences from many many sources. And I love how it's meshing together to become its own animal.

There are any number of artist with a good grasp of 3.5 style races that would fit more with the generic game, allowing Pathfinder proper to keep it's own unique look in the PF world book. Tinier elves are a legacy of that approach. Unfortunately, the best look at the typical races I ever ran across was put out by an artist using the pseudonym "TCatt" and involved only females.
