Male Halfling Rogue/4

Calderis and Hranos:

Spoiler:
After the night is over the two of you meet for the first time. Feel free to describe your characteristics to eachother and make small talk.

Female Half Elven/Half Human Monk/2

Joey

Spoiler:

Bo-Dan will bring the tied up fool over by the cart. Place the kidnapees belongings on the ground near her, build up the fire, and sit and position herself so she can have a clear view into the cart as well as the road around her. She will then wait until morning or someone wakes up, whatever happens first. As she is very disciplined it shouldn't be a problem but if she does find herself getting sleepy she will perform exercises and poses etc to keep herself awake.

-none- (Don't go there) Fish (Does that make sense?) Rogue 3 (Sneaky!)

Bodan:

Spoiler:
The elderly man is the first to wake. He grumbles some, and looks around, still groggy. He sees you and glares at you angrily. "So what have ye brought me to do for ye, coward? I bet I could've taken ye in a fair fight."

It looks like we lost two people (Calderis and Celedor - C must be unlucky), so I will find more players.

Spoiler:
Bo-Dan smiles most kindly "of that I have no doubt honoured 'grandfather'. However, I was not the one doing the bringing you refer to, I am the one who did the 'taking' of something else and the giving of freedom in it's place" and with that she sweeps a hand to indicate the 3 dead and 1 unconscious kidnapper. She then reaches in an arm to help him sit "Honoured Grandfather, is there anything I may do to aid your comfort? After that I have some questions I would like to ask you as I am sure you have for me."

My apologies, guys. I was clicking on "most recent post" and not seeing that there is another page now.

Hranos is a big human, 6'3" or so and about 230 lbs or more. He is young but has prematurely graying hair. In the camp he works with a crew on a tree-puller. When his shift is over he sits around the fire and has a few drinks with whoever is sitting at the table. For the most part he not that talkative. When he does speak it is with a pronouned stutter.

To Bo-Dan: "A-a-are you n-new here? I'm Hranos, they h-have me w-working on a t-tree p-puller. It's a good-d way to g-get killed if you're not c-carefull. What about you?"

sorry Hranos! While Bo-Dan is eager to meet ya, she hasn't quite yet...I believe it's Calderes you're talking with. Until we Do meet ;-)

How far is this camp from the nearest human settlement?

Female Half Elven/Half Human Monk/2

Joey

Spoiler:
"Firstly, are you well? Is there anything I can do for you?

Secondly, Where are you from, do you know what happened to you? Or why these men captured you? Do you know your companions there on the cart with you?

And finally, how may I help you return to your home?" and with that she will offer him some of her water and food

Hranos:

Spoiler:
"Ha, that beginner. I'm not surprised he's gone. I could tell he didn't know he wasn't going to make it." The closest thing to a weapon are the staves that only the "Supporters" can use. These staves rip apart the threads of Azemja, and rearrange them. The camp is about a two day walk from Menske.

BoDan:

Spoiler:
"I'm fine, thanks. I come from Menske. That bastard pulled me into an alleyway, and I haven't been awake since. I know what they want though. They been looking for people to work on the Great Combination Road for a while now. Don't worry about me. I can get myself home, thank you very much.

Alright, trying to get some replacement players. Anyone see our OOC Thread? I can't find it...

and there seems to be several players seeking games in the Gamer thread Or you can post a seeking player request maybe?

We have one new player so far.

Hranos:

Spoiler:
What do you plan on doing at the moment? To review: Your fellow worker has just died after one day of work, Menske is a two-day hike from your location, weapons in the area include special staves that have the ability to destroy a man, and an elven raid is expected soon.

BoDan:

Spoiler:
After a while, the second man wakes up, and tries to speak, but can't. He tries again, and then his movement becomes panicked. He points down his throat, and you see that his tongue has been cut out. He begins to cry.

Good! ;-)

Spoiler:

Bo-Dan's heart goes out to the poor man and she attempts to comfort him as much as he will allow her. She will offer him food & drink and apply what meager healing skills she has to help him feel better. She will point to the belongings she found on the cart asking both men if any of them belong to them. Finally she will, with patience, words and gestures, and writing if he is literate, try to draw out from the man who he is, where he is from and what he would like to do now. She will offer him whatever help she is able to in his getting where he needs to go come morning. (now just waiting for the elf and the kidnapper to wake up : )

Since they have time, she will also begin to casually speak of the wisdom and benefits of her monastery's teachings. Not pushing but sharing and only continuing if interest is shown.

Hranos:

Spoiler:
Two men have joined your cause. Your old friend Eldon, and his compatriot, Dinky, a gnome who cannot stop twitching. Despite this, both are accomplished sneaks.

BoDan:

Spoiler:
The younger man takes the bag with the dagger, the older one takes the bag with the ring. Obviously, leaving the elven blade to the elf, who has still not woken up. After a few hours of first conversation, and then awkward silence, the elf still hasn't woken up. The two men retire to bed, leaving you sitting by the fire.

Mercy: (welcome!)

Spoiler:
Mercy is in the capital of Menske. The task given to her by her elders is to locate a loom (f you do not understand what I speak of, read OOC) suspected to be near a mountain range to the south of Azemja. It is supposedly concealed from public eye by a circlet of mountains. Of course, the elders are a bit old, and haven't dispatched you on your mission until you reached the city of Menske.

Feel free to read other peoples stories whenever you want. I just ask you to keep in-character knowledge and player knowledge seperate. This way, it is easier for people to catch my mistakes (I want to improve on my DMing skills)

Female Snow Elf Paladin 1

Spoiler:
I ask the elders if this mission is to be kept secretive, or should I enlist the aid of some guides and/or hirelings on this mission?

In the meantime, I set about familiarizing myself with the city of Menske, learning where the markets are, who sells what, where I might find a reliable map of Azemja, where the libraries are, that I might learn as much about this land as I can (basically giving my character at least some of the lowdown from the opening pages of the IC thread) and very importantly, what temples are here, where they are located, and which gods they serve.

Female Snow Elf Paladin 1

Sorry, I meant to say OOC thread, not IC thread, in the OOC text in the post above.

Joey

Spoiler:

Bo-dan meditates while the rest sleep, restoring herself while still remaining aware. She checks on the elf periodically to make sure she is ok. She also checks to make sure the thug who knocked himself out isn't dead or anything.

-none- (Don't go there) Fish (Does that make sense?) Rogue 3 (Sneaky!)

Mercy:

Spoiler:
The elders allow you to enlsit the help of others, but you cannot tell them of your mission until you think they are trustworthy. There are too many temples to count in Menske due to the amount of gods. Some major gods include Terren, the goddess of luck, Om the god of small gods, Crocodilius, the god of nature, and Heren, the goddess of wisdom. There are many small, scattered temples across the city, each revering its own god.Menske is built around a central market, with the slums to its east, the guilds to the west, the rich part of town to the north, and your average citizens area to the south. The roads that lead out of the city go to the dwarven land (the north), the Green Forest(the south), the coastal villages (the east) and the farming villages (the west). You can find a map of Azemja anywhere in Menske (or the OOC Thread :P).

Hranos:

Spoiler:
"All I know about them staves is that they mess you up real fine." says Eldon. Dinky can give you a more detailed explanation: "Dem staffs, ye see, dey mess wid the magic o' da world, ye see. You know dem loom things, that hold the magic thing together, ya well, when ye hit someone wid dat staff, it just pull the magic threads they got apart, ye see? It just goes rip apart. Dats all I knows about it."

BoDan:

Spoiler:
Even though the elf doesn't wake, the thug does come around. He grumbles, and tries to move, before realizing he is tied up. "Where am I?!" he asks bewildered.

I will be adding an extended version on gods in the OOC Thread

Female Snow Elf Paladin 1

Spoiler:
I am going to have an advertisement drawn up that reads:

"Trustworthy and stalwart adventurers sought - guides and arms for an excursion into the Stumfyr Mountains (or the proper name for the mountain range, if that's not the mountain range you're referring to). Fair aportioning of treasure found; additional pay is negotiable. To inquire, seek the Lady Myrsandrys at the Temple of Pelor." I will hire a couple runners to post these in places about town where honest adventurers (not the shady mercenary type) are more likely to be found - reputable taverns and inns, temples of good deities, etc.

If there is no temple to Pelor yet (one of the major gods of the published 3.5 D&D game, but I don't know how well known he is in your world), or it is too small for people to know where it is located, then change the meeting location to a reputable inn near the markets or the better parts of town.

-none- (Don't go there) Fish (Does that make sense?) Rogue 3 (Sneaky!)

Mercy:

Spoiler:
There is a temple of Pelor, but it is a small, rundown place in the commoner's part of town. It looks as if it was a shop transformed into a shrine, for it has display cases lining the walls, empty, of course. There are four pews, and the initial shrine, but that is all. There are two doors that exit this room, besides the main entrance.

Female Snow Elf Paladin 1

Spoiler:
That'll work, as long as people know where it is at, I'll wait there for people to answer the ad. While waiting, I'll working on cleaning up the temple, dusting off the shelves, making it presentable.

I have to go to work, but I'll explore more indepth when I get back.

Female Half Elven/Half Human Monk/2

Spoiler:
To the thug Bo-dan says
"You are where your Karma has brought you. I have freed those you helped to capture and now it is you who are caught. Your comrades are dead and only you remain. I will tell you this once and truly. I do not care what happens to you know. Your actions have made your life forfeit. How the rest of your life progress, or ends, from this point on is up to you. I have questions and your fate depends on your answers, so think well before you give them. After, I may take you to the proper authorities, should they exist, or I may leave you to the tender mercies of those you have wronged" And with this last comment Bo-Dan looks to the man whose tongues was removed by these animals. "Again, it is entirely up to you. Do you understand me thus far?"

Assuming she gets a positive response she will continue. "Who are you. Who did you work for? Why did you capture these people? And what had you intended to do with them? And what did you do to this poor elf lass that she has yet to wake?" Bo-dan is furious but is controlling her temper...barely.

(I thought she had already done so, but in case not, she will again search all the four kidnappers for anything important, interesting or that may give her some clue as to what was done to the poor elf lass)

Female Snow Elf Paladin 1

Spoiler:

Mercy:

Spoiler:
You retreat from the room, and in a few minutes the same man enters the makeshift temple's main room. he sees the holy symbol of Pelor you wear around your neck, "Hello there, daughter, and manay blessings be given to you from our faithful lord, the Shining One. How may I help you". He seems to be reaching the end of his years, for he walks with a limp and his head is covered in an long, unkempt pile of gray hair.

Female Snow Elf Paladin 1

Spoiler:
Pelor bless you, Good Father. I am Myrsandrys, of the snow tribes far to the west across the great seas. I am new and unfamiliar to the people of this land, but it is good to see the familiar even amidst the unfamiliar. I offer you my greetings and service as a paladin of our Lord.

... and once the usual pleasantries are exchanged ...

I would ask two things of you, Good Father - your counsel, and your leave to allow me to meet some prospective allies at this place. I am embarked upon a quest to explore and journey through the elven lands and to the southern mountains beyond, and I am seeking companions to aid me on that quest. As this temple is known to most in town, and is a place where I am more in my element than in places of baudy revelry, I hoped you might permit me to interview those comers here, where Pelor might better guide my wits and eyes in my endeavor to find worthy companions. As these comers may not be followers of our Lord, I will of course be perfectly content to meet them outside on the grounds, if that is your wish.

I would also seek your counsel. My journey will likely take me through the elven lands, and the whispers that have reached me tell that certain ambitions and machinations have made bitter rivals of the humans and the elves in this land. Though I am not of any of the elven tribes of this region, and thus do not share in their politics, I would ask what you know of these politics and who I might seek to insure safe passage through the forest, especially if my companions are human, in whole or in part.

Spoiler:
"I will help you as much as I can, of course, seeing as you are a holy fighter of Pelor. You may take that empty room to repose in, if you like. He is speaking of the room you just cleaned. I am sorry, but beyond my suport, I cannot help you, because in my old age, I hav not kept up with ther current affairs of our world. I know someone who can, though. My son comes to visit every so often, and he would be interested to meet you, if you will wait this long."

Female Half Elven/Half Human Monk/2

Spoiler:
Not making the untrained skill check Bo-dan has no idea what the liquid is. She intends to find out though if it seems to her at all that the thug knows. "What is this? I will give you One chance to answer me"

If, even after her thourough questioning of the man, she still does not know, she will ask the other two previous captives. If this still proves nothing she will test the liquid first by giving a drop to the thug, then depending on his reaction, try a drop on her own tongue. As a final last result she will try giving some to the elf lass.

-none- (Don't go there) Fish (Does that make sense?) Rogue 3 (Sneaky!)

Bodan:

Spoiler:
"I don't know nothin' about that stuff." When you begin to near him with the liquid he cries out, "No, please! That elf been knocked out for five days! Don't give me none o' that poison!" If you procede to pour it down his throat, he seems fine for a couple of minutes, before he begins to looks drowsy, eventually he passes out. The elderly man seems to have a solution to your elven problem, "I know of an Apothecary up in Menske that could tell you the origin of that drink."

Female Half Elven/Half Human Monk/2

Spoiler:
Once the coward admits that it is poison Bo-Dan will end her experiments with it. But she will put him out with a nerve pinch just for getting on her nerves. She will turn to the old man "Thank you honoured grandfather. Then it is to Menske that I shall go. I would very much appreciate your further assistance in this matter. I do not know that city at all and imagine it could prove difficult to find this apotecary of yours without your help. Will you come with me?" She turns to the other mute man "We can all go. Perhaps something can be done about your horrible injury my friend. I will promise your safety along the way to the best of my ability."

Regardless of their answers, she will make sure the bonds on the thug are secure and she will gag him and toss him in the cart, covering him with a cloth. She will then make sure the elf is as comfortable as possible and secure from falling off the cart. She'll hitch up the horses or mules or whatever and start making her way to Menske. Hopefully the other two are with her.

This is getting fun. I get all these different plots, because if you read another persons post, they might be at a completely different time :) But it doesn't matter, as long as you meet up at the same time of day

BoDan:

Spoiler:
You should continue this post with a glance at Mercy's post.]The two men agree to go with you, the captive, and unconcious elf. ("But I'm only going with a hoodlum like you cause I need to get back home", states the old man) The horses begin thier journey back to Menske.

......................

Some time later: You reach the giant gates of Menske, another example of the waste of money by royalty. Instead of settling with a normal set of giant, stone doors, the king raised taxes and used the gold to make this immense, towering entrance way made completely of gold. You enter the city, and the hustle and bustle immediatley picks up. Of course, from the liesure of the cart, you can easily plow through most of it. Eventually your odd group reaches the Apothecary. The elder man knocks on the door, and, another, middle-aged man opens the door. "Brendan!", he cries out with joy, "I haven't seen you for ages, where ye been?" "Never mind that, I got a group o' friends I need help with". The Apothecary's face immediatley turns to business, "Sure friend." Assuming you bring the elf, he examines her for about an hour, muttering now and then. "Guide me Pelor, may I see the poison that she has imbued?" he asks with urgency in his voice. When given it, he gasps, "Oh my, this is not good. Not at all. She has been tainted with one of the worst poisons known to Azemja: the Drow's Nightmare. She must be brought to a priest before she is lost." He spits the next words angrily,"The idiot who did this obviously doesn't know a thing about what he's getting into." ->Continue reading the entry below

As he is about to continue, there is a bustling at the door, and a group of four rushes in: a monk, a doctor, an elderly man, and an unconcious elf. The doctor is the first to speak "Father Mathew, I have come across a patient with the Drow's Nightmare". Mathew blanches, and pulls the doctor and his unconcious patient into the next room, "Stay here, everyone."For more clarity on what is going on, you may look at my post to Bodan, above

To all in the room:

Spoiler:
Since the old man who keeps the "temple" seems to know and accept these folks, I assume they must be trustworthy enough. I move cautiously into the room to watch the scene unfold. "What is this Drow's Nightmare," I ask. "Is it a poison, a curse? I've met those lightless souls, and they are nasty comers. If what afflicts this one is named for them, it must be foul, indeed!" She kneels near the elf, if the crowd permits her to, and takes her hand, offering her a prayer to Pelor that she might recover quickly. No special healing abilities, there, just praying.

Bo-dan (and any other PCs in the group, if any):

Spoiler:
You see a female elf, about 5 1/2 feet tall, clad head to toe in glistening black, scaly armour that looks like it is made of some kind of serpent hide. Her hair is white as snow, and her eyes seem almost ghostly white. Two elven longswords are strapped to her back, and an amulet bearing the holy symbol of Pelor hangs around her neck. Though she does speak the common tongue, her accent is unfamiliar. As she bends over the elf and prays in the elven tongue, you can understand what she is saying, but the dialect is strange and foreign. Despite her foreigness and ghost-like appearance, there is an intense aura of goodness about her.

Spoiler to all

Spoiler:
Mercy sees a strong young woman dressed in simple garb enter the room with the men. She is very sure and confident in her movements and her eyes miss nothing. She seems concerned but not emotionally attached to the well being of the Elf woman. She address Mercy's question

"Well met Knight of Pelor, I am Bo-Dan, a simple monk of the Whispering Wind way. I came across this maiden and a few others in the course of my journey to the Great Forest. She and two others had been kidnapped by some thugs in the employ of the Duke, so they claimed, who is looking for more workers for this Great Road project of his. This man (indicating the old man) and one other had also been captives before I rescued them. Their captors have met their fate except for one who is still bound and my prisoner I suppose until I decide what to do with him. This maiden was poisoned with the Drow brew. The apothecary can tell you more of it if you wish"

As soon she is able, she will address the priest "Honoured grandfather and blessed healer, there is one other who was injured. A young man was maimed in his capture and I promised him I would seek healing for him. His tongue has been cut out, might aught be done to help him as well?"

"The Drow's Nightmare is a disease that shuts down the all body systems of the patient. They are still alive, only because they still have a soul, but they cannot be revived until the cure is administered. Of course, what makes this disease more annoying than others is the lack of antidote. There are special flowers, known as Night Lilies, that grow in very secluded places: around the looms themselves. People say that the only reason they can grow there is because of the loom's heavy presence of magic. Of course, due to thier magical nature, these plants are growing extinct. Of the three known looms across Azemja, only one still has a known source of Night Lilies, and that is one that as an Apothecary I can only reveal to you if you agree to retrieve them for my patient."

"My senses tell me that not only are you of similar heart and mind, and that you might be one to be trusted, but also that you care for this sick one. If you seek to help her, and my blades may be of use, I offer you my service. Indeed, if your travels take you elsewhere, I may take her cause as my own, as I have already drawn arms against these Drow once, and they have the pall of blight about them. Still, there is strength in numbers, and the Drow are no easy foe."

To the Apothecary ...

"The elders of my tribe have assigned to me a task of some importance, but it is nothing that cannot suffer the delay of a few days or weeks. Dare I say, our sick friend here may not enjoy the same luxury. I will pledge myself to finding these ingredients for you, Good Father. But, pray, if they are of such rarity, will our retrieving them then deprive others of similar need? Perhaps there might be a way to replenish their crop?"

"There is no way to 'replenish' the crop, except give it a stable, magical environment to grow and produce seeds. Of course, this is hard, because we cannot just take seeds and plant them anywhere, we need magical presence. This disease is rare, this is my second ever case, so I wouldn't worry about other patients."

Spoiler:
"With the drow appearing of late, I fear that this disease may become less of a rarity. I encountered a small party of them not long after our arrival in your land. It was dawn, and they were returning from some kind of excursion into the foothills near the dwarven mines to the north. If their attentions and interests should extend beyond the mining areas, then I fear they might be encountered in greater numbers as the seasons wear on, and for good or ill, their influence as well, assuming of course that the draught which felled this one is deservedly named." She looks meaningfully at the unconscious elf. "Of course, I have already pledged my sword to your aid, and will do as I have sworn. But if there is a way to replenish these herbs and a place where it is safe to do so, I would be most interested to learn how one day."
