Hi there,

I really want to support Paizo with the Pathfinder RPG. However, when I add it to my cart, the book is $42, but the postage is $44 (to Australia)....is this right???

Ouch. I have no way of checking, but were there any other shipment options available in the drop-down box?

Just the one...

'Ouch' is right.

Of course it might change when Paizo actually know the weight of the book....maybe I should wait til that time and then try again.

Liberty's Edge

Just tried it Sanwah, and I get the same result as you. $44.03 for postage for the final PFRPG.

The postage for the Beta version comes in at $16.81 - but I guess the final book will be chunkier.

Hmmm, guess I'll need to wait till Tin Soldier gets it in stock (if they do) and compare the prices rather than pre-order...

That's why I subscribe. =)

EDIT: Hey I just notice Sanwah, you are a subscriber... shouldn't you already be getting one?

Why don't you guys do an order together and split the shipping? I generally find that the more I order, the cheaper each item becomes after shiping is averaged out amongst all items. Just a thought. =)

Good point. Which subscription would the RPG book be included in though?

Pathfinder Chronicles.

EDIT:Oh or do you mean the Beta? That's not in a Sub... sorry I think I misread the posts.

EDIT: EDIT: Yes I did misread the posts... I thought Sanwah meant the Pathfinder Campaign Setting... my bad.

EDIT: EDIT: EDIT:That can't be right... I have both the Beta and KQ #6 sitting in my Shoppong Cart and the total Postage (after discounts are applied) is $19.95 (discount being $7.16). I get three shipping options: $12.79; $26.18; and $34.58. My total for the whole order is $40.82.

It can be right. The Final RPG is a hardcover, adding extra weight. The final is probably calculated to have new and more art in it to get a higher pagecount, adding even more weight to it.

I suppose it weights at least double as much as the Beta.

Liberty's Edge

Flash, we're talking the final, not the Beta, but you're on the right track.

When I add it to my cart I only get one shipping option (priority) which comes in at $44.

Ahh OK, that's where I originally got confusded! When she said $42 my mind jumped on the Campaign Setting because that was also that much. Then I just assumed after that she meant the Beta without remembering the reasoning behind my earlier assumption.

Just forget everything I've said. I make no sense at all and you should pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to me. =)

I would assume that closer to the release date more shipping options will become available. That has happened to me before in the past.

That you can actually pay attention to.

Lantern Lodge

I experimented with the BETA and shipping to Australia by adding/removing items to my shopping cart. I found the optimal amount was around eight copies which came out to around $27 each (including shipping), before it jumps to a higher shipping bracket. Though be careful, once the shipping changes to a higher rate, it assumes you still want that higher rate, even if you later remove product from your cart, you need to change the shipping method manually.

I recommend if you know others interested in the BETA, do as I did, and place an order for all of them to spread the shipping over multiple products.

So to all those Australian (especially Sydney) Paizoites, want to try the multiple copies postage thing (closer to next year's release date) and see if it is a cheaper option???

Happy to co-ordinate...

Just email me at sanwah@laughingfly.com and I will create an email group and contact you about July next year....

It seems funny to be planning this a year out, but I think everyone here understands the wanting to make sure we get the final book.

If it saves us a bundle on postage I'm willing to be in it. I'll email you. You work in the city right? So it shouldn't be hard to coordinate getting books to each other.

The beta is a heavy book. There's a 4 lb. limit to our "standard postal delivery" service and USPS First-Class Mail International, and the beta is right near 4 lbs if I recall (and the hardcover final might be over 4 lbs, not sure). If you order anything else along with the beta, or multiple copies of the beta, then the only option for shipping internationally is USPS Priority Mail International, which is expensive.

I've been working on code to split heavy international shipments into multiple less-than-4-lb. packages, but it's only working for subscription shipments now. (And my current coding priority is Pathfinder Society, so I can't predict when that code will be working for store orders.)

However, Priority Mail has a couple of "flat rate" boxes available, and I think you can shove several betas (or hardcovers) into one of those, which would bring down the per-book shipping price back near the "standard delivery" prices....

And it just occurred to me how silly it is to relate international shipping rates in pounds. The 4 lb limit is 1.8 kilos. :-)

That's a definate posibility. I live in Newcastle and it might be nice to catch up with some of my Sydney Paizoite Brethren. =)

So the trip down to pick it up (while expensive with fuel prices and all) would be worth it for a day of Pathfinder goodness.

Flash, If all else fails (or petrol prices go through the roof in the next year), I have a friend in Newcastle that I occasionally play with, I am sure we could organise something.

Sandra, Flash and Mothman,

I'm another Sydney Paizonite who's willing to look at a combined order.

I've just converted my 3.5 and VTES based group in the Blacktown area to Pathfinder. They're rapt. We're currently looking at ordering a fistful of paperbacks through Amazon to minimize shipping costs, but I'm up for re-examing things come next year for the hardback.

I'm in with efforts to order from Paizo directly, but I've found that as the weight increases the postage becomes, mmm, excesive. Hence the cop out to Amazon, which I and those of my group who bought 4.0 did for that system. There's been threads here before discussing the local game stores. I'm not not looking to post my opinions online, except to say Milsims probably offer the cheapest prices in Oz.

Yeh, Milsims is good, but it depends what you want to buy. Their crazy specials are great, but I actually find the rest of their stuff on par with the Sydney stores.
As I am a regular customer of Tinnies, I get a 5% discount on anything I buy, which (unless it is a Milsims crazy special) means that most stuff is cheaper, especially since there is no postage. I buy a number of miniatures so Tinnies works for me.

You should try Amazon. Zero shipping cost if you order enough products at the same time.

Who are you?

I am a VtES player from Newcastle and I go down to Sydney every now and again for Tourneys. Are you coming up to the Newy Qualifier on the 24th?

I buy all my non-Paizo stuff from The Games Shop here in Charlestown. I find they are consistently cheaper than Sydney ($5-$10) and I also get a 5% discount off anything I order (not off the shelf, so I make sure to pre-order my stuff) 'cause I've spent thousands with them over my many years of gaming.

Who do you game with? I may know them.

One of the things I've learnt about the Sydney (Australian??) FLGS scene is that eventually you get to know the staff at least one place and manage to score some kind of discount. Currently I do this at Unlimited Hobbies at blacktown. Over the years I heard enough stories about most if not all of the various stores that I no longer have much if any customer loyalty for any of them, so I rather deal directly with Paizo if possible.I find Milsims is generally cheaper if you're not getting a store discount, and they have two sales a year which are hard to be beat, not to mention if you catch them at a con.

As to who I am on the VTES scene, I actually don't play too much anymore. Found things getting too competative. My avatar name is actually a sydney VTES reference, something I came up with the 2nd Prince of Sydney about the time the Sabbat set came out, and I use to very occasionally post under the same name on the Yahoo Sydney VTES group. Haven't been to a Nats since the last time Salem ran one in Canberra. My current D&D group does include the current Prince of Sydney, or is it Blacktown?, I try really hard to stay out of the politics of the VTES scene.

The beta is over 2 pounds, and we're currently estimating that packaged weight for the finished hardcover will be over 4 pounds.
