Guess I'm just in a Dr. Who state of mind, but I was thinking the next thing their gonna do is have two or more Dr.'s meet. Don't tell me if its happaned in series 5, I've just finished series 4 out here in the US so no spoilers, but I was wondering which actors who've played the Dr. Who are still alive. And who would you all like to see be in a eposiode.
For my money Tom Baker is and always will be the Dr. but I think thats because he was my first Dr. Who, and I would love to see him come back as the Dr. one last time.

Series 5 isn't being made yet... but David Tennant (10) ran into Peter Davison (5) in a short piece called "Time Crash," which takes place immediately between "Last of the Time Lords" and "Voyage of the Damned." It aired as part of a charity special in the UK, but it has never aired in the US. It will, however, be included in the US Series 4 DVD box set this fall, and you can easily find it on YouTube.
Only the first three doctors are no longer with us; everyone from Tom Baker onward is still alive.

The sad thing is that while Baker apparently cherishes his time with Doctor Who, he's pretty much ruled out putting the scarf and hat back on unless there's an extraordinary script that crosses his path.

Even if he did come back it would seem a bit strange. Tom baker has put on a LOT of weight since his Dr Who days...still a great actor but he "looks" very different. Would be hard to explain (I suppose he could have some alien virus that makes you swell up or something like that). Tom has always been my favourite, although, I must admit David T is quickly starting to compete with that!

Given how they explained the meeting between the 5th and 10th doctors that doesn't actually rule out a meeting though!
A temporal paradox intended to wipe out the doctor frome existance merely causes several of his past lives to manifest independently as a survival mechanism, just imagine Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann and perhaps someone able to resemble any of the first three doctors like they did in the Five Doctors?
That paradox will have a lot to answer for!

Tom Baker actually does seem to be open to the idea of making a guest appearance.
Note, however, that he didn't specifically say he'd be willing to return as the Doctor... just that he'd be willing to do an appearance.

I like the "Doctor meets Doctor" stories but it interests me more when he runs into old Companions. Bringing Sarah Jane back into the fold was a great idea. They say the Brigadier might be turning up on "Sarah Jane Adventures", possibly setting up other appearances...
I still think they could get a brilliant story out of the Doctor locating his granddaughter Susan.

That would be a very interesting turn of events. I imagine he wouldn't have had much if any contact with her since he left and she would have quite a bit to say to him. When it comes to human emotion and relationships the Doctor seems a little bit of a coward. (A nice fault character wise.)
I will always hold a soft spot for Romana and Ace. Imagine an episode where the Doctor runs into them and they have hooked up as Timelord and Companion, perhaps with a T.A.R.D.I.S -righting wrongs with a womans touch. Would be brill!
Ace would be a grizzled vet of many battles by now!
If only...

I've tended to regard it more as a lack of understanding -- at some fundamental level he dosn't "get" relationships. He has companions travelling with him partly out of a belief that for some reason that's what he should do, they provide him with context, perspective, and witnesses. He's essentially an ultra-intelligent alien demigod (particularly if the Cartmel Masterplan is assumed) who is to some extent faking it around mere humans.

I think we can presume that one way or another at least one more Time Lord has survived, and Romana would be one of the most obvious options (Susan and the Rani are probably the only other likely ones, though Omega or Rassilon may be viable -- bringing back any more minor named timelords would probably be a bit too fannish).

I agree with what your saying but I do think there is an undercurrent of fear about human emotions (such as love) that scares the crap out of the Doctor but at the same time -he wishes he could allow himself to give in to it (if not for his greater debt to space/time always having to come first) the Doctor is in a bit rock/hardplace there.
Humans are often ready to give their 'one and only' life up for someone they love -I bet that is something the Doctor cant quite grasp but also fears and is left in awe of.
As for other Timelords... Yeah, it's a bit anorak but wouldn't you love to see The Meddling Monk return as a kind of re-imagined Joker/Riddler type foe for the Doctor?

Unfortunately that would make him entirely too much better than he actually is.
From memory he was a bully and a coward whose attempts at getting back at the doctor usually left him in even greater trouble than he expects which is even greater than the naivety of the Master when the doctor reminds him his allies wouldn't have any use for him if he actually completed what he promised.
