I think he should have 10 for all stats (as it says in the PHB it is average for a human) except for his halfling stats. That would make him much less powerful than Zalen. Also, giving him his first level as a commoner.
That makes Zalen feel much better knowing that he still could, actually, take on an 8yr old and win ;-)
But maybe the kids could/should have some stats better than 10 and some less? Like for example obviously an average child would have no where near the strength of an average adult. But they would likely have better Dex scores and could potentially have better Con, Int, Chr and maybe even Wis scores than the average adult. Yes?
If Ayedah and Zalen are going to return the ring as a side plot just the two of them, I vote that they each then put 75gp back into the ‘party pool’ which would make it 150gp in PP and A & Z putting 391gp & 9sp in their pocket instead. If the whole party is going along for the Return of the Ring (just me or that sound like a Sequel?? ;-) then just ignore this paragraph.
Ayedah would gladly take the full loss and have the ring's value subtracted from her total alone. She pressed the issue, and it would actually ease her conscience a little(Gern's words really did get to her).

I'd probably give them a standard array for now, and modify by age and race. That way they will be a good cut below the party (if necessary), and still viable.
As for classes, i would probably go for a mix of rogue, commoner and expert. Not that i expect it to come up too soon.

Yeah, finding her friend is her primary drive right now. It's just that she's gone off the tracks for a moment, and as soon as another trail of clues shows itself she'll throw herself into it completely. I didn't think we would have time before meeting the queen though. I'm not sure exactly when Ayedah would be getting back given her current situation.
As soon as I have an idea of that though, I'll jump back in the main thread. I feel guilty leaving it alone for so long.

I just realized that with the loss of Nayr and Katryala along with Gern, we're a party of minorities in Korvosa. I wonder if that will come up later.

I don't mean to derail anything in the main thread by taking the crazy(?) guy to a temple or someplace else he can be helped at, but she's definitely going to feel the need to do something after failing earlier today. In her eyes, even if she did help defuse the situation, one senseless death is too many and she'll blame herself for failing to prevent it whether it makes sense or not. I'm not trying to make another sidequest to slow everyone else down though, so if everyone prefers Ayedah going on a quick there-and-back/absent-until-GM-says-she's-back trip that's no problem for me.
It sounds like Alandra could use a trip there too, though. If we knew about it, that is. :0

I guess in the interest of keeping things flowing we can assume you just know that. I mean, it makes a lot of sense to have a few clerics "on staff" in any castle, and even in a Shoanti tribe, the elders probably do not usually banish the priests and druids to the opposite edge of the campsite ;)

Fortunately, she didn't meet him alone, and making a grisly example out of a city guard officer along with Ayedah wasn't so high on his list of priorities. :)

About Gireo, Khaladon, I'm sorry, but I plan on keeping him. I used all of my share to pay for his equipment, and I think that should count for something. Simply getting rid of Gireo won't work because then I am left with nothing. It is too late to go back now, so I think we let this idea provided by TN go where it may.
Well Joey, I understand what you're saying about the equipment and all but seriously you're planning on bringing an untrained child with like 5hp into a battle? What for? To create a little bigger blood stain on some Ogre's boot? As a player I couldn't care less but acting IC I can't see how any kind of Good aligned, reasonable adult would allow that?
Maybe you could sell back some of the stuff? Or if there's something Jillian really had her eye on that she wasn't able to get Zalen would be happy to Lend it to her ;-)
If you want to have a hireling and pay good money for a professional or wait a couple levels and take the Leadership feat that's all fine and dandy by me, but I don't think these kids were really meant to be actual Fighting PC's at this point...were they?? Unless Jillian can find some way to guarantee the kids safety or convince him IC that's it a good idea he's gonna give that kid a solid smack on the butt and send him on home...sorry. And please don't get me wrong, Zalen likes the little tyke, he's got spirit, that's why he doesn't want him killed. And of course I mean no offense to You by it Joey...I just can't see how my character would allow it...if that makes sense? Of course in the end it's all up to GM Terra, but I was getting the impression that he (it Is he right?? sorry! Don't want to assume : ) was letting us work this out on our own.
Ayedah's going to be of two minds on Gireo. While her people start training them young, it's a matter of survival for them. Here in the city, she's going to be uneasy with actively putting a child in harm's way. But she's also an outsider in Korvosa, and she doesn't really know for sure how people there feel on those matters. The disagreement between Zalen and Jillian is filling in the blanks though.
I guess we may have to wait and see how everyone reacts during the next fight.
Speaking of child endangerment, I just remembered there's still the matter of Dala being on the loose.
I can't help but worry about that one coming back to haunt us.

You're absolutely right in assuming i am not going to enforce one way or the other. The way i see it, you are grooming a future cohort here. If you do this on the battlefield, he'll probably be more well-defined and certainly more engaged. Might even pick up a level or two beyond the default power of a cohort. On the other hand, all that extra risk certainly exists, and might cut such plans short.
Also, what the PCs think is usually (magical effects nonewithstanding) their own business. :) I try to intrude on that only if i feel i or another has been grossly misunderstood.
I think we should see what happens. Of course, if everyone disagrees with me, Gireo can be NPC'd, but otherwise I think he should tag along. It's not as if I'm going to use him as child cannon fodder, and throw him in front of anything that comes our way. I think he can help with lots of things, like Gather Information, Knowledge (local), etc. It's just fun to have him around.
Hmmm, well that's all fine with Me for the moment. Both your and TerraNova's explanations do make sense and all. But just to give you a heads up Joey J & Z Will have to have it out in IC a bit. He's not gonna just ignore the child and hope it all works out. Like I said, he'll want some good convincing and assurances of the boy's safety on Jillian's part. and of course he'll be holding her completely responsible if harm comes to the child...so she better get her Talking hat ready to put on soon ;-)
