A quick set of questions for the designers:
What are your plans regarding the various "monstrous races" that are featured in the SRD? Will their stats and racial abilities be brought up to code with the "core races" so that they can be used to create viable and balanced player characters? Do you plan on reducing the ECL/Hit Dice for any of the "more powerful" monster races such as Gnolls, Hobgoblins, and Lizardmen, toning them down so they are balanced against the races that have already been published?
I realize that playing monstrous characters may be in vogue right now, but I've been doing so for a long time now, and I just wanted to make sure that the "dungeon fodder" wasn't left behind...
Many thanks in advance!

For many of the races, I suspect the question is - What's to stop you now?
I don't know how much we'll be seeing the monsters reconfigured via PRPG, but even if they aren't, many of them are still quite playable.

Dennis da Ogre wrote:Monster Book is coming in '10 assuming the core book sells well enough. You'll see the monster race rewrites then. Now that IS welcome news! And yes, the current stats are just fine as they are for most of the races, but it's always nice to have an official upgrade...
I didn't mean to imply that anything was getting a bump. Just rewritten to reflect the Pathfinder rules.

Perhaps a "web enhancement" in the mean time could post some stats for any of the "commonly played alternative" races such as... oh say..... ORCS!
(And by "commonly played alternative" I'm not refering to the unbalanced goliaths and whisper gnomes *grins* )
I don't think either goliaths and whisper gnomes are OGL. HOWEVER, I believe that half-giants are. The Gith are too, correct? (I.e., any difference b/n OGL and SRD?)

I know that the Half-Giants are OGL since they are in the Psionic portion of the D20 SRD. I'm not sure about the other races, though.

Just play them out of the MM as is. Change the skills boosts as appropriate. The changes are not that radical and people have put some suggestions on the boards. For orcs I don't see why you would need to change anything.

For these 4 races, I to see nothing wrong with playing em as is, just as long as they don't cause too many problems with your current adventuring group. Goblins however... LOL, every team should have one of these little buggers running around with em! Personal preference mind you!
In the future - no doubt a MM will/should be released with all these critters (and more) tweaked to the pathfinder feel! I'll be looking out for that, as many others hopefully are too!
Keep those dice rolling!

I've always imagined a sort of shadow war going on between kobolds and goblins. Dunno why, but I think it would be cool to have an entire war going on underneath the noses of the "civilized" races without them even noticing. Beneath their notice, really, at least until it spills out onto the streets.
I've played a kobold before and they're good fun, but the bump given to the PFRPG core races puts them even further behind in game balance. Given my druthers, I'd boost them to -2 STR, +2 Dex, +2 Cha and leave the rest the same. Either that or a bonus feat or skill points (not both though).
