Note to self: Don't call BT a slacker. He'll shred you with an undead bear....
With the mortality rate in our tabletop game, you'd better not, LOL.
Hi, I'll be joining you shortly so I thought I'd let myself known to you.
I'm from BT:s tabletop game. I'm working on the character but I'm not done yet (don't know if it will be a he or a she).

Dark Arioch wrote:Note to self: Don't call BT a slacker. He'll shred you with an undead bear....LOL. Every time.
And I have biblical precedent too. 2 Kings 2:23-24. See? *grin*
2 Kings 2:23-24, LOL.
And he [DM] went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children [in som transaltions it's youths, so it's suits us] out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head [DM is not bald,...yet]; go up, thou bald head.
"And he [DM's avatar] turned back, and looked on them [the party], and cursed them in the name of the LORD [DM]. And there came forth two [undead?] she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them"
so God is Good? It's a good passage to quote whenever you meet Christian fanatics.
Anyway isn't it odd that the book points out that it's two she bears? Why not just two bears?

Go with the thief. I think Zark is planning a druid. There are really no gods in the world, which means that you are basically free to create your own. Most people worship some kind of elemental forces or their incarnation. Water or possibly Air or Fire could be good choices for a free spirit.

Hey, Dark Arioch. Remember telling me about your duskblade in Savage Tide? Mine's had quite the curveball thrown at him. He had a critical fumble with a two-handed sword and Blade of Blood fighting the T. Rex on the beach. Critical hit - on himself - for 36 points of damage. He did 42 points of damage to the T. Rex (iirc) before it hit him - once - for his remaining hit points + 10. Perfect, on the nose, dead.
The curveball is this: Our healer is a druid rather than a cleric. He reincarnated my character, who came back as a gnoll. Went from 4'10", 100 lb of elf to 7'6", 300 lb of gnoll. Definitely changed the dynamic going from a quiet, confident elf to a hardly-speaking, chip-on-his-shoulder, got-something-to-prove gnoll.
Still trying to figure out exactly what's going through his head right about now.

Black Tom |

Excellent. Now just give me some character background or concept, like do you two know each other before (which would be preferable), and whether you are natives to Warwik or adventurers from somewhere else (I'm leaning towards the latter), and I'll get you into the game in no time.

Wow! Sooo close to the same spot it happened to my duskblade (it happened in the tunnels after the T-Rex encounter). Yeah, the big challenge for my character was going from a male to a female through the reincarnation (going from human to half-elf worked out well because he was trained by elves for years prior so felt that this was a bit of kharma coming out). As far as suggestions on what might be some roleplaying opportunities....well, he is used to being a slight, light, and short elf who had to make people take notice through flashy powers and strength. Now, put him in a 300 lb gnoll body, and well, he's going to have to learn how to reign some of that in. The proverbial bull in a china shop :) I would also look into how elves perceive gnolls in the world (or make it up but having it on hand will help the roleplaying). Does he loath himself now or just the opposite? Sounds like it's going to be fun and please share your experiences/challenges as a gnoll.

Well, actually, he was originally built to be a ranged-specialist ranger, but someone else showed up the first night with a near-identical build and we had no one to stand in the front line, so I swapped my scores around to give him a STR 18, DEX 18 and made him a TWF fighter instead of a STR 16, DEX 20 archer. (I got very lucky on my rolls. They were witnessed!) Somewhere before we left for the pirate's haven, he took to carrying a falchion (aka door-opener) for higher damage vs DR and object hardness and became much more of a beater than a finesse guy. He even invested in a great swordbow when we hit a big monetary score - he hasn't used TWF since before we got on the ship to the island. Being a gnoll has, from a physical standpoint, made him more of what he was than he was. (I think I said that right.) One thing that has happened is that he's less tentative about charging in -- before, he was more cerebral about his positioning, trying to think it through. Now, he follows his gut more with two priorities: 1) Protect his friends (usually by putting himself in harm's way) and 2) Proving he's not afraid of anything (having died and all, he's a little self-conscious that he failed).
The T. Rex fight was rather brutal. The two animal companions and my PC were the ones that got into melee with the beast. The wolf essentially died in the first round, I gutted myself with the greatsword. The T.Rex missed me that round and the next, when I hit him for 42 points of damage. The T. Rex killed me with one bite the next round and my animal companion the round after that. Meanwhile, the ranged attacks of my companions were nearly as bad as my critical fumble. We rolled more 1's that night than we have rolled in six months at that table. Brutal.

Mahaffy |

Mahaffy never felt right with his brothers dwarves ! He does understand all the traditional dwarven virtues but still he thinks you can be a dwarf and have fun (otherwise than by drinking and singing the Gold Gold Gold song )
He craved excitment , new discoveries , new people so he left his clan. So far it has been mostly good . Hiring as a guard for a caravan was not really his thing but he has heard bards and it seems a classic thing to have glory and adventure is to find a mismatched group of persons and go explore some caves with them ...

Heh, welcome to the mismatched crew...

Chris "Wing Commander" Plauget |

Chris isn't really unfriendly, he is just not a people person. And he is not really uggly he just don't care about his loooks, he never did and the last two years he basically spent in the woods...and it shows.
He always been a bit odd. Even as a child he spent time talking to himself or to animals, mostly birds. He likes people and he tries to be friendly but he just don't know how to act around people.
The older he got the more time he spent with animals and with the druid Gaby who lived close his village.
Eventually he became a druid and withdrew to the forest minding his own business. A month back he and Gaby got into a fight with some orcs who used to visit him. The killed his hawk and killed his teacher.
The last words from Gaby was: Your a druid, but not a animal. You know what's right and what's wrong. You got to choose side. Are you good or evil or a coward?...and darling most important....yes we spend a lot of time in the woods but get your hair done and your nails. Looks are important.
So now he has come to town to get his hair done and his nails.... and fight evil.

AinvarG wrote:LOL! I didn't know you went through that, too!Yeah, the parallels are amazing. How far have you gotten past the T-Rex? If you are far enough I can tell you the specifics. Don't want to spoil anything.
We are taking the tunnels and just ran afoul of a pair of enormous centipedes on a pair of bridges. I fought one more or less singlehandedly and the rest of the part fought the other one.
One interesting thing - since I lost a level but became a gnoll, which has 2 HD and 1 LA, I'm actually two levels "ahead" of my companions now. That and trading a CON penalty for a CON bonus has put my hit points through the roof, relatively speaking. We didn't try to break him down into "gnoll levels" so he could advance with the rest of the group, but I may wish we had. He's front-loaded with melee power, but he gets shorted in the xp department -- and I've got farther to go to reach my "next" level since I'm carrying a sixth-level character's xp trying to reach tenth level -- with no stops in between. It's going to be a long wait before I can channel spells again -- and I never got to use that ability before I lost it. If I'd remembered it, the T. Rex would not have had to bite me -- I'd have been done already.

Chris' picture is relatively unique among the characters. Dark Arioch is one of the players, so his avatar doesn't appear in the actual game thread. So you should not need to change the picture.
However, the image is a link to the profile for the profile, so you can click on that and select Edit My Profile and make the change to the image from there. Now that I type that, I will have to try it to confirm. Back in a flash.
EDIT: Yup, I was wrong. Click on the "My Account" link at the top of the page. You should see a list of your profiles and you can click edit for the appropriate one from there. Once you are in there, you will need to experiment, 'cause I can't give you succinct instructions for that area. Good luck.

OK. I Post as Zark in this thread and as Chris 'Wing Commander' Plauget in the game.

It's all good. The 'wing commander' part makes me think of that very fun spaceship combat game from way back.

Well, no tabletop this week, so I will bide my time and wait anxiously for what awaits, then.
In your opinion, should I retcon and advance one gnoll level at a time or just go with him as-is? It's seems almost unfair to do it this way, but it is certainly easier for all concerned.

Really depends on the comfort level of your group with the disparity. Some groups are ok with differing power levels while others always want things "fair" and "equal". However, if you would like to be inline with the rest of your peers than I would say advance one gnoll level at a time to show your beginning lack of experience with this new form. Lots of roleplaying opportunities there and sort of a built in system to show your increasing familiarity.

A well-stated response, thanks. Based on his current stats, he should have two levels' worth of skills and a feat. Rather than claiming he got whacked and gained all those skills points and a feat in response, I am planning to pick them up when he would have picked up the level otherwise. So he will be becoming "more gnoll" as he goes.
My DM is thinking Power Attack would be the way to go -- 22 points minimum damage in exchange for 5 points from the attack roll. Kinda sick. He has been the front-row fighter, but more of a finesse style (Dodge, Mobility) so I'm torn about changing gears to the power warrior... but it is compelling.

Am I losing it or is everybody just swamped? I'm going to assume the latter, at least for now.
I think I'm posting at about my normal (slow) rate. But yeah, it's pretty crazy around here, too. Shisumo must be busy, I haven't seen anything in any of the games we share for a couple days and at least one of our stalwarts has indicated that he's wrapping the semester at school, so he's been quiet.
In short, I don't think you're losing it. There's a perfectly reasonable explanation for everything. Really.

School has officially finished until the middle of June for me now, so I expect that I will be able to get some map updates done for the group. I will probably forgo mapping the current battle and focus on whatever updates BT has sent to me on the big map. Thanks, all, for bearing with me. The end of this semester was a real bear.

Let's just say I'm not happy about the fact that it needs to be redone. But, the computer gods, fickle as they are, obviously demanded a sacrifice. Que sera.

Time for a confession there
Monday , I was ready to act against this troll and then I discovered to my dismay I never actually finished creating Mahaffy ...
Since tomorrow is an holiday for me , I'll finish him this evening or tomorrow morning
Let's see now : Flaming sword, Alchemist fire and Fiery Bow ...
