After (hopefully) having secured the ship's cargo, Chuol will move under the pilothouse, and hopefully find something to grab onto to help keep on his feet. If the cargo's not done being secured, however, he'll keep at it until it's done.
I won't be able to roll until tonight, so could someone roll for me? I believe Chuol has a total -1 modifier to Acrobatics (+1 Dex, -2 Armor Check Penalty). Here's hoping I don't take a swim!
Chuol is tugged and pulled but remains on the boat.acrobat (1d20-1=10, 1d20-1=7, 1d20-1=2, 1d20-1=12, 1d20-1=19, 1d20-1=10)

Keliwyn has no problem keeping his balance, and after a moment, grabs onto a cargo strap to prevent anymore possible slips.

Sykala |

6 rolls for acrobatics checks (1d20+1=12, 1d20+1=12, 1d20+1=15, 1d20+1=8, 1d20+1=10, 1d20+1=8)
Sykala faces the fury of the storm and every once in awhile you can hear her laughter distantly over the drum of rain and thunder from the top of the ship.

Baas |

Baas stays on the main deck and takes in the beauty and savagery of nature. The tossing of the ship seems to exhilarate him and he laughs out, in the first burst of emotion you have seen from him.
six acrobatics checks (1d20 9=15, 1d20 9=23, 1d20 9=28, 1d20 9=21, 1d20 9=26, 1d20 9=26)
Note: You can expect that Baas is usually within eyesight of Sykala while trying to seem interested/busy doing something else. In this case, though, he does seem genuinely distracted.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

I've tried to correctly display your positions on the boat in this diagram. I hope you'll accept these.
The storm gets worse, the sounds of Esteban and Faruq yelling at each other are drowned out by the wind and rain that lashes the boat. The river becomes fierce as the rain causes it to swell.
Fippin, sensibly, takes shelter in the cabin.
Sykala, throws caution to the wind, and whethers the storm on the bow.
Sykala sees a flash of two yellow eyes as something greyish-blue crawls up from the river and onto the bow of the boat. The rest of the party has not seen it. Before she can react, it leaps onto the bow and slashes her with its claw. 7 points of damage.
SURPRISE ROUND:
Kapoacinth 1 -- ACTED
Sykala
Fippin, is somewhat surprised when the door to the cabin is thrown open and something nasty looking enters the cabin. He, however, gets to react first.
SURPRISE ROUND:
Fippin
Kapoacinth 2
Reasonably sensible people who took shelter under the cargo hold won't be in the fight until the next round.
Every round of combat will require a DC 7 balance check or you will be shifted involuntarily towards the closest edge.

Sykala |

acrobatics check to stay on ship while fighting thing from the river (1d20+1=16)
Sykala gives a involuntary yelp of pain. Remembering that Baas was out here too she darts down to where he is at and attempts to put him between the creature and herself. Yelling over the storm and pointing to the foredeck she says, "IT COME! IT ATTACK!"
It may get an attack of opportunity, not sure since all she did was retreat and during a full round that would not get an AOO.

Fippin |

How big and nasty is the thing that is in front of Fippin? Regardless he will use his dimensional stride ability to teleport himself to the rest of the party (under the pilot cabin). He'll try to only use half of his 30' of daily movement in case he needs to make another emergency move. He'll then draw his shortsword.
He starts shouting to the others.
"Something nasty is on the boat. It just flung opened the cabin door and it looked it wanted to eat me."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Sykala dodges down the short stairs off of the bow to the main deck beside Baas. The creature, a humanoid with vicious claws and blueish gray skin that has the texture of stone, follows. It moves with great speed and agility attacking its prey -- Sykala -- again. Another 8 points of damage. ... Baas and Sykala can attack without moving. The rest of you would need to move to get to it. There is only room for one more attacker. The creature that Fippin was shouting about has not shown yet.
ROUND 1:
Kapoacinth 1
Fippin
Keliwyn
Kaocinth 2
Chuol
Ixius
Sykala
Baas
Chuol: I will need 4 pre-rolled initiatives and 4 pre-rolled perception checks. These will speed up play.

Sykala |

Spellcraft check to cast in extreme weather (1d20+8=18) and for casting defensively.
Sykala will take a 5'step back, then hold her action until it tries to advance back up to her, and then let it have it with a Gust of Wind. That should keep it at bay for the round.
"Feel Gozreh's breath!" she screams at it.
2nd round of fighting river critters acrobatics roll (1d20+1=9)
Oh, and how fast are the storm winds at the moment?

Fippin |

Baas |

four initiative checks (1d20 2=22, 1d20 2=15, 1d20 2=14, 1d20 2=9)
Knowledge (Nature) check to see if I know what these things are. (1d20 9=18)
and
Acrobatics check to stay standing (1d20 9=17)
Will you note the creatures vicinity to me? And what weapons they are carrying.
If my knowledge check fails, I will just rage and do a full power attack, overhand chop on the creature. I just noticed you can do both on an attack at the same time.
If it succeeds, I may do something a bit more creative (bull rush or disarm, to try them out)
Edit: my attack will fail though:

Baas and anyone else making knowledge (nature) DC 15:
You recognize these creatures as Kapoacinth, also known as aquatic gargoyles. They live in the water.
The creature has sharp talons and teeth. It is holding no other weapons. It doesn't seem to need them.

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Keliwyn draws his dagger and rapier, moves so as to take a place with Baas, and attacks.
1d20 5=7 to hit, 1d4 1=4, 1d20 5=23 to hit, 1d6 1=7
His initial thrust with his dagger misses, but his rapier bites deep.

Chuol |

Chuol will attempt to move into flanking position (if possible) on the creature that is attacking Sykala, and either way, he will strike at the creature using Smite Evil.
Seeing the creature attacking his boatmate, Chuol draws his spear and shield as he approaches the creature. With an intense look and a growing growl, he stabs at the creature with all of his might.
1d20+8=12, 1d8+4=5 (if the creature is Evil, that hits 15 AC and deals 9 damage)
Not very good rolls today... Rolled a 1 for my hp. Anyway, I posted a bunch of initiative and perception pre-rolls in the discussion thread. Also, I'll be leaving town in just a few short hours, and I'll be back on Sunday. Hopefully, Chuol's still alive when I get back... :)

Ixius |

Since there is no room for him to engage the creature in melee, Ixius casts daze on it and then mage armor on himself.
Spellcraft checks for casting on a rough boat in a storm:

Chuol will have to spend his entire round in movement -- climbing onto the bow and then coming down behind the creature. The good news is it will have no place to go but back into the water if it decides to retreat. I will save your attack roll for the next round.

Ixius is not having a great round. You manage to make your spellcraft checks for being on a moving vehicle, but the creature is unaffected by your 'daze' spell. Also, ...
The slippery deck pulls Ixius towards the edge of the boat where the second creature leaps out at him from the gangway and slashes him with its claws. 8 points of damage.

ROUND 2:
Kapoacinth 1 -- action below
Fippin
Keliwyn
Kaocinth 2
Chuol -- action in advance
Ixius -- MUST MAKE ACROBATICS CHECK THIS ROUND OR BE IN THE DRINK.
Sykala
Baas
Hit with Sykala's gust of wind and fighting to keep from flying off the boat, the first kapoacinth claws at Baas with both claws. 11 points of damage.

P.H. Dungeon |

Have to go get married now I won't be posting again until sometime tomorrow.
Round 2- Fippin shouts out "These creatures are enchanted monsters, they are resistant to non magical weapons."
He then casts spiritual weapon- making the star knife appear behind G1. It will keep attacking that one for the next 3 rounds at which point the spell expires.
In the next few rounds Fippin will mostly try not get killed and keep the other party members alive while his spiritual weapon attacks.
Spiritual Weapon- 1d20+ 5=21
Damage- 1d8+3=11

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Ixius |

Ixius takes a five foot step back towards the center of the boat and casts shocking grasp.
what's up with my crap rolls?
If that spell fails he tries again (using another 1st level slot).
Acrobatics check to avoid falling in the river (1d20+3=18)
"THE OTHER ONE'S OVER HERE!" he yells.

Sykala |

Feeling the positive energy coarse through her body she feels reinvigorated and smiles over her shoulder at Fippin and he can sense her go from a defensive posture to an offensive one. "NOW FEEL SKYFIRE!", Sykala unleashes lightning into the creature but stumbles on the rain slicked deck as she does so.
3rd acrobatics while fighting river creatures (1d20+1=5)
Lightning Arc touch attack on river creature (1d20+5=22, 1d6+2=4)

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Keliwyn's attacks hit but have no effect on the creature. As they slice into its body and out, the wounds heal instantly.
Fippin's starknife does have the desired effect. It also gives a flanking bonus to Sykala.
Chuol's spear does not penetrate the stonelike skin. But he gives a flanking bonus to Keliwyn.
Sykala slips towards the creature and makes it feel the power of the storm with a bit of lightning.
And now we discover how deadly PRPG grappling is in a situation like this.
The creature attacking Ixius grabs onto him and begins to pull. As he does so, he cries out to the other creature "Take one!" Ixius is grappled (check Alpha 3 for the grappled condition.
ROUND 3:
Kapoacinth 1 -- action below
Fippin
Keliwyn
Kaocinth 2
Chuol
Ixius -- grappled
Sykala
Baas
The Kapoacinth attacking the rest of the party scrapes Baas' chest with its claws. 5 points of damage.

Sykala |

Another lightning arc touch attack (this one with flank) (1d20+7=8, 1d6+2=5)
Wow! That was bad.
Sykala is unable to arrest her slide toward the edge of the boat. She flails out with her hand to reach for the low railing to stop herself causing the lightning to char the wood and then skitter and dance over the waves instead of at it's intended target.

Ixius |

Enjoy and good luck.
Ixius is going to need it. He's in a world of hurt right now.
Obviously no 5-foot step, but did the second spell-casting attempt succeed at least?
Also, am I correct in assuming they have Improved Grapple since Ixius got no attack of opportunity?

Baas |

Round 3 acrobatics check (1d20 9=13)
I was going to rage and bull rush this one over the side, but I don't think I could avoid an attack AoO and hit the DC, plus I'm not sure it is Baas' style.
Baas grimaces as the creature claws into his chest, then a subtle smile comes across his face. From the corner of his eye he sees Sykala stumble slightly and reflexively starts to steady her but she gets her bearing before he moves.
He looks back at the creature and a calm washes over Baas face as he raises his earthbreaker far over his head and brings it crashing down on the creature in front of him all the while whispering to himself in some strange tongue.
Raging, overhand powerful blow with Earthbreaker. (1d20 10=15, 2d6 14=22)
lousy attack roll

The second spellcraft attempt succeeded.
I remembered your attack of opportunity after I went to bed. You will get an AofO. Unlike 3.5, however, successfully dealing damage does not automatically break the grapple ... damage dealt is added to the DC of the attack. So, you might not be grappled! Perhaps I spoke to soon. ... You can also attempt to break the grapple as your action.

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Keliwyn manages to keep his footing and, at a loss for what else to do, continues to press his attack.

Ixius |

Suddenly, as the creature tries to grab Ixius, his hands claws turn into razor sharp, claws with golden scales.
I need good rolls here
Attack of Opportunity against grapple attempt: 1d20+3=8
Surprised as he is by the speed and agility of the thing, his swipe misses badly. The creature grabs hold of Ixius and starts pulling him toward the water.
You can also attempt to break the grapple as your action.
Horrified, Ixius tries to break free:
Attempt to break grapple (1d20+3=16)
This is instead of the spells as Ixius' action in round 2. Also in the Alpha 3 rules is says attempting to break a grapple is a standard action, so if the first attempt did not succeed (I highly doubt it did), Ixius tries again.
Attempt to break grapple (1d20+3=6)
Ixius cannot break free of the creature's hold, and will most likely be taken into the river with it.

Fippin |

Round #3
Fippin hurries over to Ixius and casts a cure light wounds on him.
Then his spiritual weapon continues to attack G1.
Cure light wounds on Ixius- 1d8+ 3=9
Spiritual Weapon-1d20+ 5=17
Damage- 1d8+3=5
Balance Check-1d20+4=20

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Fippin's spiritual weapon gets flanking bonus and hits (or was that already included)?
Chuol uses his enchanted trident to spear the evil creature: Chuol hits for 9 points of damage.
The Kapoacinth grappling with Ixius tries to pull him over the side of the boat. You can try to break the grapple -- or was that what the extra standard action was for? You only get one standard action in a round, right?
ROUND 4:
Kapoacinth 1 -- action below
Fippin
Keliwyn
Kapoacinth 2
Chuol
Ixius -- grappled
Sykala
Baas
The other creature attempts to grapple the enemy closest to the side of the boat which would be Keliwyn. AofO Keliwyn. Better deal some damage.

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Keliwyn, don't you get sneak-attack damage since you are flanking?
You are correct, but . . .
The other creature attempts to grapple the enemy closest to the side of the boat which would be Keliwyn. AofO Keliwyn. Better deal some damage.
Do some damage?!? Keliwyn doesn't have a magical weapon and is just attacking for lack of anything better to do.
Still vainly trying to damage the creatures, Keliwyn continues to slice & thrust.
1d20=17+5=22 to hit, 1d4=2+1=3, 1d20=11+5=16 to hit, 1d6=4+1=5

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Since everyone including the creatures goes before she does I am going to wait and see what happens with the grapples before declaring my action for round 4. Can I also get an updated position for Sykala as she has ben slipping and sliding around?
I think she is back where she was in the round 2 map. She stepped back and then slid forward ... well, let's say she stumbled forward due to the rocking of the boat.
I can't imagine a situation in which Fippin could prevent this from happening, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say ...
The creature grappling with Ixius has managed to pull him into the water.
Faruq has finally seen what is going on and pokes his head out of the opening in the pilothouse with a shocked "Waahh!?".

Fippin |

Fippin Round #4. Fippin cries out as he sees Ixius pulled over the edge- "IX!!!!"
Assuming I'm not confused- the Kapocinth that hauled Ix over the edge was not the one my spiritual weapon was attacking.
In that case the spiritual weapon gets its last attack (with a flanking bonus, which I did forget to include last time, so my attack roll should have been two higher). The weapon winks out right after its attack.
Fippin looks for someone to heal, "Who's hurt, who's hurt?"
So he delays his action until he gets this figured out and can make himself useful.
Spiritual Weapon- 1d20+7=25
Damage- 1d8+3=11
Balance check- 1d20+4=5- Fippin got a natural 1- he falls.

Sykala |

Hearing the splash and Fippin's cry Sykala turns to see Ixius disappear beneath the waves. Baas looks over to see her eyes already turned yellow with a black slit down the center. As she runs toward where Ixius just dissappeared her skin takes on a greenish hue and starts forming into a rough scaly hide. Her face elongates and splits to reveal a row of needle sharp teeth as she dives overboard and is only recognizable as an ancient twelve foot reptilian monster when she hits the frothing water, powerful tail driving her toward the submerged combatants.

Baas |

Round four acrobatics check (1d20 9=19)
Baas whispers a curse to himself as he watches Sykala's transformation. Then snaps back to his immediate task. If I can move into a flanking position in a 5 foot step or move action, He will.
Raging, overhand powerful blow with Earthbreaker. (1d20 10=17, 2d6 14=19)

The creature is not completely immune to ordinary weapons. It is damage resistant not damage proof ;-). Roll for your sneak attack damage, you might score a point or two.
EDIT: Turns out it doesn't matter. Last hit did him in.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

With Baas' attack, the creature releases Keliwyn and falls backwards off the side of the boat. Unless for some reason, you want to grab it and keep its body.
In the river, the remaining Kapoacinth -- or aquatic gargoyle -- drags Ixius beneath the surface.
Sykala may have something to say about that.
INIT. ORDER: Kapoacinth (ACTED) / Ixius / Sykala
From the pilothouse Faruq is yelling to Esteban "Stop the boat. Drop an anchor. Human overboard!"

Ixius |

Ixius continues to struggle to break free of the creature's grip, fighting for his life.
Attempt to break grapple (1d20+3=5)
And fails.

Sykala |

Suspecting it cannot move very far while grappling and recalling that physical damage did very little to them Sykala moves up to the creature grappling Ixius and touches it sending a shock through it hoping to drive it off.
Lightning Arc touch attack against submerged opponent (1d20+5=16, 1d6+2=4)
Hope you can hold your breath for a bit Ix as this may take a few rounds
