Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin chooses to cast his second true strike spell, and hold it until he figures out what terror they are running from.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ix lets the croc-folk pass and tries to see what they are running from, moving up to where Fippin is.

Sykala quickly gets out her offerings and points after the crocodile people, "Follow! If is Shambler than not want be close. Talk far away."

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin has moved just inside the cave, and will hold his position at the entrance, trying to keep an eye on both the croc people and anything that might come out from in the cave.

Fippin and anyone in the mouth of the cave with Fippin, roll for initiative.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Initiative: 1d20 2=8

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Initiative (1d20+3=6)

Initiative (1d20+2=17)

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Baas sees no point in attacking the fleeing crocodiles, but moves up to stand next to Sykala.

Initiative (1d20+2=9)

Shambling Mound 18 -- ACTED
Sykala 17
Baas 9
Fippin 8
Ixius 6
Keliwyn?
I'm assuming that Baas and Sykala have headed up in front? As they were the first to act, they could reach the cave first.

As soon as Baas enters the cave, a vine falls away from the wall and lashes his chest and arms. Another vine whips at his feet but he's nimble enough to avoid it. The vines grow from a pile of moldy leaves and dark humus. The plant creature stumbles a little closer and prepares to attack again.

10 points of damage.

Sykala calmly moves up and puts her offerings down 5'feet from the Shambler. She speaks in a strange voice that sounds like the winds blowing through the trees and the crackling of leaves and branches underfoot....

In Plant-eese:

Spoiler:
"We apologize for intruding into your territory. We wish you no harm, nor wish to stay. If you will allow us, we come to help you remove the parasite that is feeding off of you, making you weak and will eventually kill you. Will you allow me to help you?"

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Interested to see where this is going, Baas delays.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin still has the true strike shot ready, but holds off firing, waiting to see how Sykala's negotiations go.

Make a diplomacy check, Sykala.

Diplomacy for Shambler (1d20+1=10)

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Does knowledge nature help? Just reviewed the diplomacy rules and I don't think with my +1 for charisma that there is even a chance of success. Since it is apparently hostile I would need a 25 check just to make it unfriendly and a 30 to make it indifferent. I suppose there could be mitigating circumstances though.

Sorry, Sykala, I don't think the shambler is interested in talking. You could take +2 to your check for Knowledge (nature). Now, a knowledge (nature) check might tell you that if you let the Shambler eat Baas, it will become much more agreeable.

The shambling mound lashes out with both vines again, and ...

Delayed actions come first.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Seeing the creature lashing out at him again, Baas responds in the only way he knows how: by screaming a terrible howl and launching his own offensive. He swings his hammer at the creature, hoping to dissuade it from attacking him further.

Going into a rage, Baas will use powerful blow on the creature (5 rage points spent).

Attack and Damage (1d20 11=13, 2d6 13=25)

This is when I hate rolling both attack and damage at once. Seeing that maximum damage now makes me sad knowing that I rolled a 2 to attack. Good luck everyone else! Also, I need healing (or at least, I will once this thing hits me again!). ;)

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius shoots a ray of fire at the shambler.

ranged touch attack (1d20+5=7)

...and it goes wide.

I know they have fire resistance, but Ixius doesn't.

Baas. wrote:

Spoiler:

You should have seen the damage he did before I realized that there were readied actions. ;-)

Remember, the cave mouth is only 10' wide.

Male Elf Rogue 5

Keliwyn tries to keep to the mouth of the cave, and lets an arrow fly.

1d20=17+7=24, 1d8=8

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin uses his second true strike and deadly aim and releases the arrow he had been delaying.

1d20 25=30

1d6 4=9

I did see it before you edited it out, which is why I am worried. :)

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Perception (1d20+12=24)
Yeah, had a feeling about the sinking feeling about the diplomacy but heres to roleplaying! Can I see the worm? and if so what kind of check would I need to grab it off of the Shambler? I know it's not my turn yet but just getting ready.

Sykala wrote:

Tarren:

Spoiler:

Sykala, you can see something under the shambler's tentacles. Attempting to grab it would expose you to AoO and would still be difficult to do but if you want to try make a grapple check to grab it.

Yeah, well I forget what they were and had to roll again ...

One of the vines crackles out like a snake and lashes across Baas' chest but the other misses him. The shambling mound remains silent. The sound of the vines snapping and the rustling of its form are the only things you hear from it.

16 points of damage.

Sykala shakes her head sadly, "Is mad. Not speak to me. Must kill." She begins to chant a prayer to Gozreh.

She takes a 5' step back (I think that keeps her out of melee range) while remaining defensive with her shield to cast Summon Monster III to summon a Dire Wolf on the opposing side of it to give Baas flank.

Augmented Dire Wolf attack with flank (1d20+15=30, 1d8+12=17)

Improved trip attempt (1d20+18=38) Wow, nice roll. I think I calculated the trip plus correctly (+6 for BAB, +9 for augmented strength, +1 for large size, +2 for Improved trip ability)

Of course the wolf appears when it goes again as it's a full round casting time spell

Shambling Mound 18 -- ACTED
Sykala 17 -- ACTED
Baas 9
Fippin 8
Ixius 6
Keliwyn

The shambling mound is easily brought to the ground by Sykala's dire wolf.

He will now be easier to hit.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Since the shambler is a Large creature, Ixius can also get a flanking bonus from the dire wolf, no?

"Get it!" Ixius yells and moves up to claw the big plant.

claw attack (1d20+4=17) 19 if flanking
damage (1d6+2=3)
sneak attack damage (1d6=2)

crap damage rolls

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin will try to move up to Baas and cast a cure moderate on him.

2d8 4=8

Sorry Baas, s#$+ roll.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Grunting as his wounds mend, Baas moves towards the prone creature, raising his earthbreaker high above his head and slamming it down with every ounce of his strength.

Raging, power attack, and powerful blow! :)

Attack and Damage (1d20 6=12, 2d6 23=28)

Not great, but maybe it being prone will help!

As Ixius and Keliwyn both hit the plant creature, it begins to get desperate. It lashes out at Baas again, attempting to bring down the warrior foolish enough to get in its face, but one of its tendrils is trapped beneath its own bulk. The other leaves a nasty rope burn around the shoanti's neck.

12 points of damage.

12 points of damage.

* I rolled for Keliwyn this round. Perception check with your next attacks please Fippin and Keliwyn.

New Round.

Augmented Dire wolf attack with flank round 2 (1d20+15=19, 1d8+12=17) Didn't add anything for it being prone in here.

Lightning Arc Touch attack (1d20+5=25, 1d6+2=8)
Lightning Arc Touch attack critical confirmation (1d20+5=11, 1d6+2=8) Ohhhh, the irony! Think I just negated the damage the wolf did this round (figures I roll max damage on this too)

As the giant wolf continues to savage the plant creature Sykala releases lightning into the heart of it.....

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Perception: 1d20 8=20

Fippin casts another cure moderate on Bass:
2d8 4=17

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius continues to claw at the plant.

claw melee attacks (1d20+6=11, 1d20+6=24)

claw damage (1d6+2=4)
sneak attack damage (1d6=2)

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Ripping free from the tendril's attempt to choke him, Baas then continues his assault.

Crazy Attack and Damage (1d20 6=11, 2d6 23=30)

It'd be nice to roll over 10 again one day. *shakes fist at Invisible Castle*

The dire wolf tears vine from moldy limb and, despite Sykala's efforts to revive it with lightning (It's alive!) it slumps to the ground and seems diminished. Ixius and Baas hack at it to be sure.

Fippin & Keliwyn:

Spoiler:

The crocfolk are trying to sneak up on you but they do not succeed. Their initiative is 13. Beat that.

Male Elf Rogue 5

Keliwyn's attention is grabbed by the return of the lizard men, but apparently, his reflexes aren't so quick. "Behind us!" He yells.

Iniative (1d20=3+4=7)

Keliwyn of Korvosa wrote:

Iniative (1d20=3+4=7)

Feel free to log an attack to be used later, Keliwyn.

Sykala will call off the wolf and try to harvest the worm from the remains trusting her companions to fend off the crocmen....

Sykala wrote:

Sykala has no problem doing that.

I think we are waiting for Fippin.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Initiative: 1d20 2=10

Fippin will spin around and try to fire an arrow at one

1d20 6=16, 1d6 2=5

Fippin takes a javelin in the shoulder before he can pull his bow. 2 points of damage.

Another javelin flies harmlessly past Keliwyn.

Fippin's arrow is deflected by the crocfolk's shield.

Keliwyn's attack and then round 1. The entrance to the cave is only 10' wide so only two crocfolk and two party members can stand abreast.

Would someone like to roll for Keliwyn?

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4
Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Sure.

Keliwyn takes a shot at one of the croc-folk

ranged attack (longbow) (1d20 +7=16)
damage (1d8=8).

Sykala will just carefully wrap up the worm to protect it. I don't think there is room for the wolf to attack (if there is feel free to roll for it).

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

On Fippin's turn, he moves back beside Sykala and casts a spiritual weapon spell. He places the spell in the cave entrance to hover there and help defend it.

1d20 6=11, 1d8 2=7

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Do we have an initiative order for round 1?

If Ixius acts before the croc-folk and after Fippin, he moves into the space occupied by Fippin and casts burinig hands, trying to catch as many of them in it as he can.

burning hands damage (4d4=6)

If not he stays where he is and casts scorching ray at the easiest one to hit.

ranged touch attack (1d20+5=19)
fire damage (4d6=19)

I've run out of initiative pre-rolls. I've been thinking of something. What if we give all the PCs a static initiative just for the PbP. Initiative = 11+DEX+bonuses. Monsters roll for initiative. Or do you guys prefer to keep the normal system. If the normal system, then I will need 4 more pre-rolls.

ROUND 1
Ixius 18 -- ACTED
Crocfolk 13 -- ACTED
Fippin 10 -- ACTED
Keliwyn 7
Sykala ? -- ACTED
ROLL AND INSERT YOUR ACTION WHERE APPROPRIATE.

I'm going to give Ixius the move that is to his greatest advantage as I'm a little confused.

The crocfolk's attack are futile. They throw their second to last remaining javelins but, despite the short distance, have no success.

Keliwyn's attack finishes off one of the crocfolk wounded earlier. Ixius' scorching ray slays another. The shaman and the last remaining crocfolk step up too replace those slain.
