Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin who was starting to get pretty riled up stops, and seems to remember where he is.

"Sorry Ix," he says rather sheepishly.

"Sorry Hurgh, that last comment was a bit out of line. I was just mad because if you had mentioned the plant thing before we canoed here we could have saved ourselves a lot of time and trouble by being properly prepared. Esteban could of damn well told us too. I guess my vote is to canoe back to the boat."

Sykala just nods and hops back in the canoe.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Baas sighs, and then hops into the canoe with Sykala.

Hurg doesn't say much on the way back. He heads up to talk to Esteban alone. There is a lot of yelling. Esteban doesn't say anything to any of you for the rest of the evening.

Other than a few ghostly sounds and the familiar light of the Will-o'-wisp in the distance, nothing threatens you this night.

The next day Faruq comes out and says, "Hurg won't be going with you. He says Fippin knows what the worm looks like." He passes you a clay pot with a lid that can be tied down. "Have fun."

Faruq walks away without waiting for an response.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

I guess we hop in the canoes and start paddling back.

Fippin seems to be in a sour mood.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

"Lets go talk to that plant." Ixius says as he gets in the canoe.

Not much time to post today

Sykala gets in the boat in a very cheerful mood, "Go talk shambler. Help by take worm"

Tarren, I'll update my spells tomorrow

The trip back by canoe can be made without incident.

Spells updated. Only I and Ixius are covered by endure elements today. She mentioned she was going to not memorize as many too Fippin so maybe he'll want to cover Keliwyn today.

Upon reaching the waterfall Sykala will cast Detect Animals or Plants and try and locate the Shambling Mound.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

"Well I guess we'd best hike our way up the trail and find these damn worms."

Fippin knocks an arrow to his bow and examines the trail for any sign of fresh tracks.

Survival: 1d20 8=28

Male Elf Rogue 5

Keliwyn nocks an arrow as well and takes up a point position. "Four armed apes, wild elves, Will o' Wisps, undead slime, walking plants and possible two legged crocs - fantastic. Let's get this done, and get on our way."

Does Keliwyn need to be worried about heat exhaustion?

At this stage in the journey, things have cooled off a little. There has been more shade or breeze.

Sykala

Spoiler:
Sykala senses that the shambling mound is in a cave near the waterfallup the winding path. The path is quite smooth and an easy climb.

Fippin wrote:

Fippin:

Spoiler:
Fippin detects the tracks of several creatures. Their footprints resemble those of crocodiles but they walk upright.

Peering through the mist given off by the falling water as the canoe comes to the landing beneath the cliff face, Sykala points at a cave above them, "Shambler there. I talk. Try help. If attack we kill. Is dead anyway because worm if not allow remove. You stay back so not anger." Beads of water forming on and running down her body from the condensation collecting on her.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
I may have missed it but I don't think you answered my earlier question about whether I can speak to plants while in animal form. I can cast the spell in animal form now that I have the Natural Spell feat but not sure whether I have to be in human form to actually talk, whether it's talking at all as opposed to a mental link of some sort, or whether it just magically enable whatever form I am in to communicate.

Sykala:

Spoiler:

It is not in the rules, other than to suggest that Natural Spell is limited to the somatic components of the spell not an ability to speak. Speak with Plants says you can 'talk with plants' but doesn't mention that this is more of a telepathic form of communication or not. I'm going to say that you can use the normal sounds of that animal to communicate with plants but will not be able to share that information with your colleagues.

She hikes up the path making sure the rest of the group gives her about 60' of space.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
If there are any simple things she can gather as an offering of friendship for the Shambler she will have done so. Not sure what that would be but could include small animals or fish for it to eat, bugs, or some fertilizer for it's den (if rolls are needed at all here for this feel free to make them for me). She begins to quietly hike up the path to the cave concentrating on maintaining the location of the Shambler. Just before arriving at the cave (50' feet from it) she casts Barkskin, Cat's Grace, and Speak with Plants on herself. Giving her an AC of 25 for now. Then she approaches the cave with a sunrod out just in case it's too dark

Male Elf Rogue 5

Keliwyn watches as Sykala moves up the path, then turns to the others. "If you keep an eye on her," he says, nodding toward the druid, "I'll keep an eye on our backs." With that he moves a bit down the trail in the other direction, just far enough to hide, but not quite out of earshot.

1d20=3+13=16 stealth check

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius keeps an eye on Sykala with his bow ready.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

"I noticed some fresh tracks on the trail. Keep an eye out for crocodiles that walk like men.

< That's about the last thing we need, he thinks to himself. >

When Sykala reaches the cave, she peers in and sees it is dominated by a strange statue of a creature that may be monkey or man or something older than either. Around it are four creatures Sykala recognizes as a type of lizardfolk, but with more crocodilian features.

Three javelins miss Sykala while a fourth lizardfolk mumbles something and gestures with its claws while blowing dust in Sykala's direction.

He just wasted a sleep spell on a PC with more than 4 HD.

Round 1:
Lizardfolk (acted)
Sykala

Sykala notices that the cave continues further back behind the lizardfolk.

Blinking in suprise at the unexpected attack she turns back for a second to the rest of the group as the spears fly past her, "Crocodile People." Realizing she has interrupted some sort of ritual Sykala walks into the cave trying to remain nonthreatening by going defensive with her shield to get past them to where she sensed the Shambler was.

In Sylvan:

Spoiler:
"I do not wish to fight you. I want to help the Shambler"

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius moves further up the path but doesn't go so far that he would be visible to the crocodile folk.

The cave is no wider than 15' at its widest and usually 10' wide. They will get AoO if you try to pass them.

She'll move 30' in, hopefully past them trusting her shield, reflexes and speed to save her from the AOOs and then obscuring mist the cave to disorient them.

You'd have to make a four acrobatics checks. There are no spaces that are not occupied or threatened. You must make one acrobatics check per opponent. I will assign the stronger rolls to those squares that are occupied, giving you a slight advantage but ... There is simply no way to pass four lizardfolk in a cave without trouble. Note that a failed check means you do not get to move through the square.

Seeing her way completely blocked she takes cover and waves the others up to assist her. "Need get crocodile people out of way."

Not really having acrobatics she will not attempt that. How high is the ceiling?

P.S. I am going to be out of town with no computer access until Sunday evening. Feel free to DMPC Sykala Tarren as you have a pretty good idea what she is attempting to do.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius joins Sykala at the top of the path, and peeks into the cave.

"Where are they? It's all foggy in there."

Nah, it's not foggy. She was going to do that at the end of her movement (as stated above) had she been able to get past but as it slowly became clear that it was all but impassable it never happened.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ah, OK.

Ixius signals for the others to come up the path.

He readies burning hands and will cast it if any of the croc folk attack.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin casts one of his daily uses of true strike. He hangs back a little and holds the spell. He has an arrow ready.

True strike combined with the deadly aim feat should be pretty effective

The path runs perpendicular to the cave mouth and is about 10' wide. You have room to stand two abreast. The lizardfolk are snarling to each other and obviously trying to decide what to do.

If you are standing two abreast, who is in front, next, etc? How many feet back from the cave mouth do you stand?

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius stands 5 feet from the cave mouth.

I'm thinking Sykala is next to him and Fippin is behind them. How far into the cave are the lizardfolk?

Ixius wrote:

About 15' in.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin is as far back as he can be with still being able to see his companions and the lizard folk.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

At the sound of 'crocodile people', Baas runs up the path, drawing his earthbreaker as he runs. He stands near Sykala, ready to enter the fray.

5' behind Sykala, because Ixius is next to her, right?

The croc-folk take their sweet time mustering up the courage to see where the crazy pink skin went. They poke their heads out of the cave and then, seeing only a few scaleless mammals, step into full view shaking their javelins at you.

INITIATIVE
Baas 19
Ixius 17
Sykala 16
Keliwyn 10
Fippin 6
Crocfolk 5

I'm back. Anyone understand these guys? Comprehend languages or something?

Male Elf Rogue 5

Hearing the commotion, Keliwyn quickly leaves his hiding spot and takes a place near the second line, next to Fippin, with his bow ready.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4
Sykala wrote:

Ixius only speaks Common. I think we might have to fight them.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Baas moves in front of the group, holding his huge maul aloft with a warning look in his eyes, attempting to convey to the croc-folk that if they decide to confront him, they will be reduced to jelly.

Move 10 feet in front of the group and ready an action to attack any non-allied creature to step within 5 feet.

Attack and Damage (1d20+8=21, 2d6+4=8)

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius says to the lizardfolk (in Common): "We mean you no harm. We just want to visit the shambler."

He delays his action until after the lizardfolk act. If any attack, he will cast scorching ray (instead of burning hands now that Baas has moved).

The croc-folk hoist their javelins and prepare to attack. They do not seem interested in trying to breach the language barrier at present.

There are a couple of readied actions.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius sees the croc people raise their javelins points his finger uttering a word in draconic. A line of fire appears between his finger and the closest crocodile person.

scorching ray

ranged touch attack(1d20+5=24)
fire damage (4d6=10)

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin fires an arrow at the biggest looking crocman. He uses true strike and his deadly aim feat.

1d20 25=42

1d6 4=10

That should hit.

The croc-folk release their javelins just as Ixius and Fippin use fire and arrow to fend them off. Their javelins clatter down the side of the cliffs, striking no one. They do not come within range of Baas' earthbreaker.

Immediately after throwing their javelins, the scramble back in through the mouth of the cave, wondering why they ever poked their heads out.

Sykala will follow them back instill just remaining defensive, "I try go Shambler now."

Hopefully they are running low on javelins

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

"I will come with you, but wait for a moment." Ix softly speaks a quick word and touches Sykala (Casting mage armor) then does the same to himself. "Now we will be safer."

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

"We should probably stick together. Let's all head into the caves."

Fippin moves forward quietly (he has a decent stealth skill)

As you approach, the crocfolk come bursting out of the cave mouth throwing panicked glances over their scaly shoulders squeeking and hissing as they attempt to charge past you. They do not seem as concerned about your intruding on their holy ground as they did moments before. In fact, they do not seem to notice you much at all.

You can all take an AoO as they charge past you.
