My group is now in charge of the fort and are in the process of building it up. Can they collect taxes on anything. What kinds of resources does the area produce. I had the notion for iron mining in the mountains and lumber from the numerous forest around. Would the guilds from Magnimar take an interest in the process? If the group builds up the surrounding region and is active in getting people to migrate to the area what kinda of monthly population gain would be appropriate? I like the idea of a random roll modified by leadership/charisma/circumstance but dont have any baseline. Last question, what kind of rules/controls do the pcs have over the region. Are they just lords of hte keep protecting the land or do they have some sort of nobility status. I just wanted to get a feel for the politics of the region and the sort of conflicts the pc's might expect from Mag, Korvosa, and Kaer Maga, especially once people start settling.
Thanks!

If you're looking for hard mechanics (and who isn't?) may I direct you to the D&D Companion Set.
It has simple yet elegant rules for not only starting a dominion, but also making it grow. It talks about resources in your lands, population growth (and decline) and presents a bunch of dominion events much along the lines of the ones offered in the back of 'Hook Mountain'.
