Question for Jason

Alpha Release 3 General Discussion

Dear Jason and others involved,
A number of us who have been in the Skill and Feats section were wondering as to why the reduction in the usefulness, versatility, and/or power for a number of the feats. These feats are the commonly used feats such as combat expertise, cleave, great cleave (really wondering on this one), and power attack. Not going to go into depth into these feat and how we see them, but rather want to hear what you have to say.

Thank You.

Wow.... ok that was a pretty loaded question. :)

Instead, how about "What was your rationale for changing the above feats as you did?" without prejudging?

Building your own opinion to the question makes it sound hostile, and doesn't accurately represent the other people who think the changes were just fine.

Also, I think cleave is 100% better in the current alpha version than in the SRD 3.5 version. The assumption that there is a majority concensus on the changes to these feats being negative is not accurate.

Agreed. One of my players who ran a fighter during our first playtest was ecstatic about being able to Cleave one opponent without having to drop the first as a prerequisite.

Also chiming in here that I like the new versions of Cleave, Combat Expertise and Power Attack. I don't think they've been "nerfed" and I'm glad of the changes.

I can see combat expertise needing some tweaking, but I like that both it and power attack now have an "all or nothing" component - I think that really speeds the game up, since there's no longer waiting on players trying to decide just how many points to put into a power attack.

I'd still like to see the 2 handed weapon power attack nerfed down to 1.5 times damage bonus just like strength.

Considering Jason has already expressed that the feats are going to be significantly overhauled in the Beta (based in part on discussions on this board) don't you think it's a good idea to wait a bit and see what the changed feats will look like in the beta?

Jason has already said that the feats are being overhauled in the Beta. The changes he's done were based on feedback from the boards and playtesting. They are being fairly tight lipped about what specifically has changed in the Beta so... Don't you think it's a good idea to wait for the beta then comment on what the current rules are?

Hostile? He sounds sincerely curious to me. *shrugs*

What I want to do here is stop bickering about these things and seek as to why he changed things and that is it. I am not here to argue with anyone.

I am sure to disscus this with you in another one of the many threads in the skills and feats section.

As I said above... you are talking about stuff that is no longer relevant. Wait for the beta then comment.

Good point, but we only have this to discuss and I have not see these covered very much prior to the beta so it is safe to assume that this will be the likely later on. However I will wait, till beta, but my statment was just curious, because I might have my opinion changed.

Well the reason I mention waiting for the Beta is because Jason has said on a couple threads that combat feats reworked. Other stuff I haven't heard about.
