I also find the OP's concept interesting . I spend nearly all my time behind the screen so a chance to *play* would be refreshing. Collectible I'm not interested in; that's my biggest gripe with the official minis. As far as GM-less gaming, there's an interesting system out there called Mythic Role Playing (http://www.mythic.wordpr.com/page14/page14.html). They offer a systemless "GM Emulator" that might work well "carded up" (though the tables would probably do fine as they are.) I've been dying to take it for a test drive; 4E might be my ticket.
What size cards are we talking? Playing cards or Tarot cards. Maybe the Tarot concept can be worked into the design?

Collectible DM Decks for 4th Edition !!
The new rules are so good and so streamlined, I think we can use cards to play it.
Since we're kind of raising this thread from the dead ... may I also resurrect Dragon Storm? I myself have a goodly portion of these cards for playing the exact type of game you are talking about--it isn't the type of adventure I'd do DM-less however. You really need someone to make sense of the chaos.
PS: Also met Susan Van Camp at a convention - lovely lady, I rather enjoyed her. Would have really liked to have played in her game but there was some sort of time conflict (I can't remember what.)

Given some of the earlier replies to the original very funny "tongue in cheek" post and other posts in the "4E board" in general. It seems to me like you need to lose any sense of humor to be a 4E player! It is a game, please people.
Now I play 4E so I can't really say anything against it, so on that note. To all you insecure persons - "your shoes are bad, just plain bad".
I feel better now, and thank you for your attention.
Shoe Trolling - so much fun!!!
:)

By all that is Empyreal, don't give them ideas!
When will the prosecution of us poor GMs end?
Seriously, it might be fun for some dungeon crawl, but no use for roleplaying.
And don't use words like collectible anywhere near D&D or similar games. It really does give them ideas, and if people seem to ask for it...
Oh, and something else: CWM is right: The bannings must continue. I suggest we ban the guy who just assumes that everything is "troll crap" and promotes hate against everyone who doesn't like 4e with all his body. Behaviour like that is the MO for other boards, but not here.

I love how if someone who likes 4th edition reponds to a troll its horrible but somehow if someone who likes 3rd edition responds to that person who they now label a troll, they smell like roses.
The Short Story is , that the 4th edition forum is a trap. Its an excuse to make people think they have some reason for posting their continual flame bate under the guise of "Discussing 4th edition" and then whenever someone who actually likes 4th edition (Imagine that people who like 4th edition and are willing to say so in a 4th edition forum ) says more or less anything but rapt agreement with the original snide, derogatory, or sarcastic comments they get accussed of trolling themselves.
My Advice if you like 4th edition on this forum. STOP POSTING IN THE 4th edition forum.
Make due with whatever else drew you to this site because the so called 'caring and communal posterbase' might as well be a bunch of rabid flying monkeys as far as 4th edition goes, between the actual haters, the apologist (but those people are just expressing their views on 4th edition in the 4th edition forum, not trolling at all ), and the pundits (basically everyone who has ever called out CWM or anyone else who continually posts postive things about 4th edition on a regular basis [oh wait CWM is more or less the only one left because the idiocy of this board drove the rest of them away] for his so called trolling and who undoubtibly will be calling me a troll after this, right with the apoligist who will cyber scold me for putting more shit on the fire).
You know I used to really appreciate these boards, but then I realized that they have a really high percentage of people who seem to feel entitled to ruin others fun. So hey, what can i say, Don't Do it CWM. I know this is a zombie thread and what not, but honestly give up on paizo, god knows I have.

but honestly give up on paizo, god knows I have.
I believe Paizo have this section on 4E as a courtesy to WotC and the general gaming community. As WotC has now withdrawn their pdf's from Paizo, and that Paizo doesn't actively support any 4E products I guess you are right - this 4E board may well die. But at the end of the day its what WotC want, complete control our their product (and fair enough too). So while we are posting advice, mine - simple; logon to the official WotC forum on 4E if you don't want the possibility of someone having a different perhaps even negative opinion of 4E.

Didn't even notice the thread was that old.
Pro/Con 4e:
What do you expect? Polarisation is bound to occur. Sites like gleemax and enworld drive away 3e fans in droves, but on the paizo boards, they didn't use to be, so they come here since they have nowhere else to go.
Add a too-light moderation where people can run wild (on both sides), and things are bound to get ugly here when things get ugly in the community. Just add people acting up as the Board Police, and you have it.
But face it: just as the 3e camp isn't innocent, the 4e isn't, either. Far from it.
Or, rather, there's people in both camps that go too far.

Are you kidding me? This is obviously supposed to be a joke at the expense of 4e. Unfortunately it could use some rework to filter out the bits of invective peeking through and add in some chuckles.
Ten points for you DrJones! It is rare but fun, when someone prompts me to look up a word I have not used before.... INVECTIVE: of, relating to, or characterized by insult or abuse.
Make that 20 points. I will use this word somehow tomorrow!

Actually, the "adventure building deck" was done years ago. Not collectible, just a nice deck of cards with some words on them. It was called "The Destiny Deck," was published by Stellar Games, and was designed by Dennis McKiernan. I playtested it with him and Mike Stackpole years ago at a World Fantasy convention, and still have a couple copies that I pull out occasionally.
Don't have it handy, but I'm certain you could turn up a copy if you wanted fairly easily.

Here is (micro) DM Deck. Maybe a stub Deck would be a better name. It kinda works.
The main purpose is to continue along the prototype development path. After making this I notice one very necessary addition that will be needed. Within the different types of Decks further sub classification of ‘type’ is needed, call them sub-types.
Witch has already anticipated this when he said, “ Draw monster cards until you draw a humanoid.” Noticing that ‘Humanoid’ would be a sub type in the Monster deck.
So, now we need to come up with a working list of sub types for each Deck type:
What are the sub types of Plot, for the Plot deck ???Let’s work on this over the next few days and see what we can come up with. Please keep posting all the card ideas you can come up with! And, post any other helpful ideas you come up with!
[ a micro Deck: print this post out and cut the cards out with scissors. ]
Start by picking a Plot card at random. The game Ends when you run out of plot cards, or you die.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::
Plot Card:
Barrier to Entry
You stand in front of a door.
Roll d6
1 – locked: if you can open it, draw an Encounter card, else draw a new Plot card.
2 – draw a Trap card
3-6 – open the door and draw an Encounter card.::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::
Plot Card:
Quite Street
You find yourself in a quite side street. It looks like it has recently rained. The cobble stones are slick, and a damp odor is in the air.
Roll d100
1-10 – It begins pouring rain, draw a Plot card.
11-80 – draw an Encounter card
81-00 – draw a Plot card::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::
Trap Card:
Spike to the Head
With a thud, a spike tries to hit you in the head.
Steps:
1. Roll 4d10
2. Roll a save. If...
.
I'm going to try to make one these decks now.
