Playtesters unable to navigate to alpha rules

Alpha Release 3 General Discussion

Forgive me, but I have tried to walk my players through the links to get their own copies of the rules. It is more of an annoyance than a show-stopper, but is there any way you could either:

A) put the link in a more central location, or
B) add a link for 'Email this file to:' (preferred)

They are both good/zany playtesters, pushing the thresholds of what the system is supposed to be. They're just computer-stupid.

Send 'em here. Have them click the "add to cart" button, and then their shopping cart on the upper right. It should be self explanatory from there....

The "problem" is, you have to create an account. I have six players, two alternates, and myself. Several of those guys are "computer challenged" (to put it mildly), so if the Alpha/Beta could be in a "public" place without having to create, YAA (yet another account) it would be helpful.

For my computer challenged player I've just printed off another copy (at work, shhh, don't tell) and given it to him.

Wish I could, but my office is my home's third floor (finished attic) and my printer is a regular printer, not laser... *ugh*

That is why I am buying the soft cover beta....

I will probably just bring the beta to Staples and print 6 copies and hand them out.

It will probably be cheaper for you to buy 6 copies of the print version than to have it printed at Staples at 400+ pages each copy. (Especially if you pre-order through Amazon (18.99) or B&N (18.74/16.88 for members) or wherever.)

Reckless

If it's alright for you to print and distribute... couldn't you email it or even simpler.. put it on a disc for them?

It's actually *not* ok for people to distribute it themselves, even to their players.

Yes, we require that you set up an account to download the Pathfinder RPG. This allows us to create a direct relationship with our customers, and that's huge to us. In return, you get some great *free* content, and, because we know who you are, we can notify you when updates to that content is available. We really don't think it's too much to ask; it's free, and we've gone to pretty good lengths to make sure it's easy and rewarding.

Well, it would be O.K. to distribute the Open Content portion of the rules (only). But not the art, the stuff about the gods of Golarion, etc.

Works for me.

*However*, I am sending Rich to you after I set up his account and give him his userid and password!!!!

Awesome. And my e-mail address is customer.service@paizo.com! :-)

If anyone is truly unable/unwilling to get a PDF copy of the Alpha 3 rules for some reason, they could try this wiki:

http://alpha3.wikidot.com/home

I can't vouch for the formatting, though.

You know, I agree with what you're saying

If I were Paizo, I wouldn't waste a single second enforcing this policy beyond simply stating it.

The reason being— the more people who see that rulebook, the more people will join the site. It's a good book, and I think you could do worse than to scatter a million copies from the rooftop of every FLGS.

That's awesome. I've put it on speed dial and will add a search for it, so I can just enter "pf dwarves" and get the racial stats - this is going to be the pathfinder version of d20srd until they put up a pfsrd.org!

Speaking about formatting: The Spells are messed up big time. I don't know whether this is work in progress, but it's not quite useful now.

I don't know whether it's feasible to fix that, though, with the beta coming along in a 6 weeks or so.

*prints a million copies*

*scatters them from the rooftop of every FLGS*
*watches in fascinated horror as people get maimed and mauled and decapitated by big stacks of paper and multiple papercuts*

That's the great thing about a wiki -- you can fix it yourself, lazybones! ;-)

I only formatted some of "Races" and "Classes" and a few headings in "Skills", "Feats", and "Combat" so far.

Exactly. This is just kind of a dry run for the more permanent thing.
