I am keen on running a solo PBP for a single player, or two players who know each other well, and can co-ordinate. The setting will be seventies New York World of Darkness. The rules set will be the nWoD game by White Wolf.
This game will be an attempt at realism. Players should do some research into the seventies, particularly language, slang, current events and cultures.
The game will not last forever, but will have a definite beginning, middle and end. The story ought to take two weeks of game time, and less than three months of real time. Think of it as a short story in three chapters.
The game will be mature and dark. sexism, racism and criminal behaviour will have a part in the game. That said, characters should have redeeming qualities, and be likeable to some extent. That said, you will be playing a criminal. A criminal with real vices, put in situations where it is necessary to do bad things.
Violence in the game will not be abstract.
Players should not expect the supernatural. The characters will have no unusual powers or occult secrets.
I expect the game to be quite deep, and am looking for intelligent, experienced roleplayers. Munchkins are not welcome.
Dice rolling on Invisible Castle.
The succesful applicant should have a firm grasp of the mechanics of nWoD, and have a copy of the core book. He or she should be able to play a character that is rich and complex.
A love of genre classics, like Mean Streets, Carlito's Way, Scarface, Taxi Driver, The French connection, American Gangster, The Warriors, Midnight Cowboy, Runaway Train, Blood In-Blood Out, and seventies exploitation and action films is a plus.
Although the game will be set in NYC, I have never been to the Big Apple. The game will be in fictional buroughs. A player who knows NY well, may find that their real world knowledge is a hindrance.
Someone who is not currently in another PBP, and has always wanted to, will get preference over the more exposed.
This is not first come, first served. I will decide who plays by May 25th.
Posting will be fairly frequent, with the occasional break, at chapter endings.
Although I have my email address in my profile, All queries should be made here.

The world of darkness uses an abstract resources system. The only House-rule I am going to implement, is the use of dollars instead of a resources trait. Money will be a prime motivator in the game, and I want the character to care about money spent, and money gained.

Thanks for checking it out. Solo WoD is what I run best. D&D is great fun for groups of friends. WoD is perfect for solo play. In PBP's, the number of people creates a bit of drag on the flow of the game. If there are only two or three people, it is easy to pass the baton between the participants. That is the theory, anyway.
Anyone with questions can feel free to ask them here.

Taliesin Hoyle |

You could download the character sheet from the WW website, to see the new skills. They changed the rules to incorporate untrained skill checks. If you feel naughty, you could download the WoD book as a torrent, after all, you might like it enough to buy it. The mechanics are different. A lot cleaner and tighter, with a better core. I have not run the new edition yet. Part of the reason I want to run this, is to get familiar with the new rules before I run a game later this year. I also want to see what comes up in the game so I can refine the plot before I run it in meatspace. Writing by playing. It is still the easiest core mechanic to learn.
The greatest change is that difficulty is always eight. Instead of changing target numbers, modifiers subtract or add dice.
Are you interested in a seventies crime saga? Can you dig it?

Taliesin Hoyle |

As a bit of an advertisement, I took over a PBP from one Rob White, called "Evening of an Empire, the Eagle in Autumn." You can read it
Herald of the Empire was Rob. I took over after he disappeared without notice. The game is a good indicator of my style. I started as the Character Rufinus Galsius. The transition to my hands is at the bottom of the third page.

![]() |

I tried to sign up for this yesterday, but the boards appear to have devoured my post. I'm definitely down for a nWoD game. It'll give me something to do with the $500 of currently-unused nWoD books sitting on my shelf....
I presume you're running it on the boards here, right? Most of my posting time is from work so I doubt I would be able to commit to any other sites (as many of them are blocked by the firewall).
Oooh. Just noticed the Invisible Castle caveat. I can't access it from here. Unless you want to do the dice rolling for me (which I always prefer, especially in WW games), I guess I'm out.

![]() |

Rolling dice for you so that the mechanics become invisible is very much to my liking. You are definitely the front runner. If you have many of the books, I can tell you right now that the only ones you will need are the core book, and the Armory.
Excellent. I have both of those. Also, you say that the PC will be a "criminal." Do we get to choose what kind of criminal? Or are you assuming that we'll be involved with an organized crime syndicate (the Mafia, etc.)? I had some cool ideas for like a freelance carjacker who maybe works for a chopshop of some kind (perhaps several of them). The movie "Gone in 60 Seconds" is largely responsible for this inspiration, so if that kind of theme doesn't mesh with what you've got in mind, I can work out other stuff.

Taliesin Hoyle |

The idea is that you will be an independent, who wants to get made. You will have a great deal of freedom. It is quite a sandbox game, where there is a world working on a timeline, and you are an entity within it, looking for advantage.
I said earlier that this is not first come first served, and I gave a time limit for interested parties. That said, I checked out some of your PBPs and saw that you are ideal. I will still wait to give other people a chance to get in. The deadline is thirteen hours and fifteen minutes from the time of this post.

Taliesin Hoyle |

I am pleased to announce that it is yours. I will make a discussion thread, and link to this one so that you can use the price lists if necessary.
The discussion thread is here
