After scrabbling downwards a short distance, Umlo takes the plunge, striking the water more or less cleanly. Retrieving his equipment is going to be a severe hassle, scattered as it has been by his descent, but at least he can see Devrin, floating below the surface. Even as he watches, the cleric drifts further away, carried by the current. He'll have to move quickly if he wants to save him.
Swim check from Umlo
Meanwhile, the goblins above Fern seem to have gone dead silent. That can't be a good sign. Dare she stick her head up to see what's going on?

Umlo |

Chris Banks |

Umlo strikes out swiftly, and manages to catch a hold of Devrin. Unfortunately, the cleric is rather heavy, and while Umlo is able to get a decent hold on him, fighting against the current with him in tow could well be a more difficult proposition. Another swim check.
Fern raises her head cautiously above the cliff edge. The goblins seem to have overlooked her in all the confusion, which is definitely for the best. The fighting has stopped for now, and the goblins have cleared some space around Korpi. Into this space advances a goblin mounted on a giant lizard. Judging by the grubby breastplate and dented crown he's wearing, this can only be Ripnugget himself.
"Stupid gob!" he snarls as Kyran clambers back onto solid ground and reaches for his bow, "You challenge Ripnugget? I grind you into paste! Alla you watch and see what happens to traitors!"
Korpi simply grins a manic grin, backing up slightly to give himself room to maneouvre, "Come an' die, Ripnugget!"

Umlo |

Umlo feels the tide pulling him and the worshipper of Desna down into the dark, he relaxes a little and welcomes the wet death, with hopes of seeing his wife and children again, he is ready to let it take control when he spots a butterfly in the corner of his eye, it almost becons him to shore, with that he mutters in Dwarven "Its not my time my dear, soon but not now" With all his strength he kicks and tries to make it to the shore.

Kyran Semnir |

Kyran locates his bow, snatches it up, nocks an arrow, and shouts across the chasm. "You're not just facing one of us today, 'Ripnugget'!" (The goblin's name is said with an audible sneer)
I figure that's a round's worth of actions.

Chris Banks |

"Well, you no just fight Ripnugget, Longshanks!" Ripnugget yells, "Kill him!" A couple of the goblins remaining on the watchtowers, being quicker on the uptake than their fellows, hurl javelins at Kyran. Thankfully, propelled as they are by puny goblin arms, they don't quite make the distance, dropping into the sea below.
Enraged by this turn of events, Ripnugget advances on Korpi, intent upon trading blows with somebody within arms' reach. Behind him, his ill-disciplined underlings seem more inclined to stay and watch the fight rather than going for longer-ranged weapons.
Umlo, meanwhile, breaks his way back to the surface, sucking in a deep breath and heading for the rope Kyran helpfully tied in place for him. Getting Devrin back to the top of the cliff is going to be tricky, unless he can revive the cleric sufficiently that he'll be able to take a hand in it.
I'm not going to ask for an endless string of swimming rolls after that success, though heal or climb checks may be required, depending.

Kyran Semnir |

Kyran calmly lines up a shot at Ripnugget and lets fly.
Attack: 14, Damage (if applicable): 1
Remember, Umlo's got one of Gogmurt's healing potions. This might be a good time to use it...

Chris Banks |

The carefully administered potion does the trick, bringing Devrin around to a more-or-less conscious state. Devrin is now at 1HP and conscious. Kyran's arrow, however, skips harmlessly off the side of Ripnugget's breastplate. While startled, the goblin chief presses his attack on Korpi, scoring a vicious hit on his shoulder. Despite his anger, Korpi has no luck at retaliating.

Kyran Semnir |

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

Seeing Kyran's bold attempts, Fern decides to try her luck as well. Taking aim as best as she can, she lets loose a bolt from her crossbow. Her shot goes wide, however.
Shaking in fear, she crawls around on the ground, trying to edge around the little island, looking for a way back.

Devrin Vallis |

Devrin sputters and empties the water in his lungs in a hacking cough. Choking on the brine, he struggles to grip on to Ulmo and the wall of the cliff. He looks at the dwarf offering him a heartfelt look of thanks, his voice no where near recovered enough yet after the near drowning. He tries to breathe deeply, but the water that was in his lungs causes him to cough again. A few more moments and he is a little more calm and capable of breathing normally. He chokes out a word of thanks to Ulmo and then calls on Desna's aid to heal them both a bit more.

Chris Banks |

Shrieking with inarticulate rage at his attackers, Ripnugget lashes out at Korpi again, only to have his weapon lodge itself in the ground. Unfortunately, Korpi is unable to capitalise on this, as the lizard rears up, forcing him to back off.
With the goblin chief absorbed in trying to kill the upstart challenger, Fern is able to scrabble to the left, an area relatively free of goblins. Alas, two of the crowd decide to go after the gnome, making their way around the combatants.

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

What is the distance from Fern to the goblins? From Fern to Kyran?
Fern lets fly another bolt toward her new assailants. The shot hits hard into the chest of one of the goblins. For 4 damage. No crit confirmation.

Whew! It's been a long road back. I got an internet connection but my second child was born two months back so life had been a bit crazy. I havent had time to read up on any of the thread but I am excited to see it still going! Any chance Gronde can return to the story. I know its been about 4 months (much longer than I had hoped) so I understand if the answer is no.

Chris Banks |

Good to see you again. And congratulations on the kid. No problems with weaving you back into the narrative, and Grond can pop up whenever you're ready. Locating Thistletop's no great difficulty; all he has to do is follow the trail of fleeing goblins. We can assume that the merchant was dropped off without incident.
On the topic of Fern, she's around 20ft from her would-be assailants, while Kyran is a good 70ft away on the other side of the gap. Umlo can see that the cliffs of Thistletop are surprisingly smooth, as if somebody had deliberately shaped the rock in ages past. Still, time has taken its toll, and the cliffs are by no means unscalable, though it will take time - a round to swim across the gap and another three at least to climb the cliff.

Kyran Semnir |

Kyran will continue to fire arrows at Ripnugget until the opportunity to do something else presents itself. (Once Devrin and Umlo are up from below, he'll tie his rope to an arrow and shoot it across to Fern so she can tie it to a bridge support and they can get moving again, but I imagine that's a few rounds out yet.) One important caveat: if it looks like Fern is in worse shape than Korpi, he'll shift his fire to support her instead. He's going to attempt to keep his friends alive with his bow as much as possible.

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

Fern will keep 5' stepping away from the goblins as they approach. She'll continue firing bolts into them until they die or run away. If necessary, she'll slap them around for cold damage. Once the goblins are off her, she'll use Kyran's rope-arrow and try to affix it to the bridge. Making some small cuts in it, looping it into itself, and using her Mending spell, she should be able to fuse it quite solidly with the bridge support.

Cool. Thanks alot, I have missed the game and RPing this character. Give me a day or two to read up on the thread and I will post an entrance soon.

The Korpi vs Ripnugget clash really isn't going in Korpi's favour. Having held his own initially, he's now taken a couple of nasty hits and, having failed to hurt Ripnugget in return, has shifted his focus to the goblin chief's mount, caving the oversized lizard's head in. Kyran, firing in support, manages to lodge an arrow in Ripnugget, wounding him but not appreciably slowing him down.
The first of Fern's assailants, taking a crossbow bolt to the gut, staggers back momentarily before coming on with murder in his eyes. The eyes, as it turns out, are more murderous than the hands, and both goblins miss abysmally. Fern coolly steps back and makes to finish her first target, but her bolt goes wide. She takes a couple of cuts but doggedly persists, taking down one of the goblins before the situation abruptly takes a turn for the better with Umlo's arrival. The remaining goblin begins to back up worriedly.
By this time, Korpi's gotten another hit in on Ripnugget, but has alas been dropped by the retaliatory strike. Ripnugget's rant about how death's too good for the traitor degenerates into a gurgling shriek as Kyran's latest arrow punctures one of his lungs. He's still up, and still looking very angry, but he has to be hurting now.
Seeing their leader in such pain, and more longshanks swarming up the cliff the goblins' morale, shaky as usual, seems on the verge of collapsing. Ripnugget might be able to rally them to deal with the invaders, but if he falls, well, at an educated guess, it's all over bar the screaming, running away and trying to shift the blame if cornered.
Thanks to a crit from Kyran, Ripnugget's in bad shape. You have one round of actions before he rallies the troops and tries to swarm you under with weight of numbers. Make it a good one.
Injury-wise, Fern's taken 4 damage, while Korpi is unconscious. Devrin, incidentally, has reached the top of the cliff with Kyran.

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

Fern hopes to make her next shot count as she levels her crossbow and points it at Ripnugget. Letting the bolt fly toward her, she barely has time to see it's result before she's dodging another attack from the goblin in front of her.
"Get them away from Korpi!"
5 foot stepping to save her life. Attack 20, Damage 4. If Ripnugget comes within 30' of her, she'll use her last Cause Fear.

Grond Aardde |

Grond bursts from the thickets growling, "Now how ya gonna go an be fightin' all these gobbos without me?" With a swish of his hands he proclaims loudly, "Verfangen!"
Grond casts entangle targeting the farside of the cliffs attempting to encompass any goblins but not Umlo or Fern. Korpi alas falls into the catagory of goblin in this instance.

Kyran Semnir |

Kyran lines up another shot on Ripnugget. Then he spots Devrin climbing over the cliff, sighs with relief and ruins his shot, which goes low, hitting the ground somewhere in Ripnugget's general vicinity. (Attack: 6) Silently cursing his lapse in discipline, he refocuses and calmly nocks another arrow.

Devrin Vallis |

"Grond! good to see you. Thought we lost you back there. Good to see you too Kyran, thought I was a goner there for a bit. Ulmo managed to get me above water and breathing while still swimming, quite the feat down there. I can't help much at this range, any plan to get the three of us over there?" says Devrin to his two companions.

Chris Banks |

Ripnugget's efforts to rally the troops are rudely interrupted by a bolt to the leg. Even worse, the very vegetation of the island turns against him. Although Ripnugget himself manages to wrench himself free of the grasping greenery, three of his underlings are thoroughly caught. It's all too much for the remaining goblins, who retreat back into the fort and slam the door behind them, effectively abandoning their leader to his fate.
"Cowards! Ripnugget shrieks, "I catch you and gut you! You just waits!" With that, he barges his way through the equally treacherous vegetation, and drives his dogslicer into Umlo's leg. Though severely wounded, rage seems to be driving him onwards.
6 damage to Umlo, who now has a furious goblin chieftain shrieking in his face.

Grond Aardde |

"Aye, I'll not be much help at this range either. We needs to be gettin' across to help me brother and the others." Grond studdies the situation with a stout dwarven eye. He then pulls a rope mesuring fifty feet from his pack and kneels down at the edge of the bridge. Help me be pullin' this bridge up. We can attach tha rope to the end o' it and toss the loose end to the others. Thay can be pullin' it up tight so we can be gettin' over."

I am figuring that 50' is the length of the bridge. Chris stated the water was 80' below and Umlo droped 30' into the water from the end of the bridge as it was dangling down. If we can get the end of the rope that belongs on the far side up and tied to the rope we can toss the rope to the other side so they can pull the bridge across. Once secured we can cross over. Down side is I think the process will take longer than a battle with the goblin leader.

Kyran Semnir |

Kyran stays out of the way on the bridge repairs unless asked for help, opting to fire more arrows at Ripnugget. If he is asked for help, he stops shooting and helps. Go ahead and roll my attacks, Chris. However many would be appropriate.
Kyran is completely unscathed when Devrin looks at him. Not even any bruises or cuts.

Chris Banks |

With Umlo desperately fighting to fend off Ripnugget, it seems for a moment that the goblin chief might just drive his attackers over the edge of the cliff. Then Fern's spell causes him to go wide-eyed with terror. All thought of fighting gone, Ripnugget turns to flee, evading Umlo's axe and Kyran's arrows alike... and running straight back into the entangling plants.
Ripnugget almost makes it through the area of the spell, but then a whipping limb wraps around one of his legs, sending him sprawling. Other foliage soon coils about him, the nettles drawing blood. Howling in magically-enhanced terror, Ripnugget tries desperately to extricate himself. Of course, neither the fear nor Grond's entangling spell will last forever...
We are no longer in combat. However, there are still three goblins plus Ripnugget tangled up, and in a little under a minute, they'll be free to move. Feel free to act accordingly.

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

Fern will continue to shoot at any and all targets during this time. Attack rolls, 15, 11, 23, 7, 8. Damage 3, 5, 1, 4, 1, respectively. With a possible critical for an extra 1 damage.
"Now! Finish them off!"
