About Kyran Semnir

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed. -Lt.Col. Dave Grossman

Behold the sheepdog.

========================================================
Kyran Semnir is the youngest of eight brothers, all to the same parents. His grandfather was a former Andoran soldier who moved to Varisia after the revolution, pleased with the new nation but unable to face the sites of some of the things he'd witnessed and done. His grandmother was a kind Varisian woman who took a fancy to his grandfather, and the rest, as they say, is history. He has lived on and tended the family farm his entire life, and as his older brothers grew up and moved on with their lives, he stayed, though he corresponds with them regularly. When his parents took ill and died, he tended to them as best he could, then buried them himself and took up the farm as his own. For ten years, he has been happy just to till the soil, feed the chickens, eat a simple meal, and go to bed so he can do it again the next morning. He is, and always has been, a good neighbor and a good friend. The agrarian lifestyle he's always led has put strength in his limbs, food on his table, and contentment in his heart, but over the last few years, he has felt something tugging at him. At first, it was nearly imperceptible, a vague notion that played around the edges of his dreams, but lately it's been getting stronger. His family has always been faithful to Erastil, a trait that led them to be generous with what they had and kind to those they dealt with, but Kyran is beginning to feel as though the god will soon require more of him. Much more. He doesn't know what or how, but the notion has begun to creep in on him that his days of peace are soon to be over.
========================================================
Physically, Kyran's not all that much to look at. Though tan and muscular from years of working outside, his face, while pleasant in a rustic sort of way, is not one that makes women swoon. Years of squinting has given him crows feet and gray has begun to creep into his dark brown hair. His eyes are a steely gray, and he usually goes at least two days between shaves. He stands an average 5'10" and weighs in at about 185lbs, most of it lean muscle and sinew, but he's not low enough on body fat to look "shredded", either. However, where his physical attributes are unremarkable, his personality is remarkable as can be. Kyran possesses a strong will, a gentle sense of humor, and a steady confidence that most people find very agreeable. He thinks of others before himself, derives joy out of making others smile, and likes to pitch in where he can. Despite all of this, he has never had much of a romantic history. His childhood sweetheart married a wealthy merchant in Korvosa when he was in his early twenties, and afterwards he lost most of his interest in romantic pursuits. Fending off occasional raiding goblins or predators has given him both a keen eye and a fast sword hand, and while none of his weapons are particularly showy, he is an accomplished marksman and good with an axe. In contrast to the rest of Kyran's easygoing demeanor, however, is his strong sense of moral outrage. Seeing people exploited, abused, or harmed does not sit well with him at all, and, especially in his younger years, he bloodied his fists in tavern brawls more than a few times when some drunken tradesman wouldn't take "no" for an answer from a local girl, and he is the bane of every bully he encounters. Fearless and noble, he is not averse to stepping into a fight with steep odds if someone innocent needs protecting. He is also an excellent judge of character and seems to have an almost preternatural sense of when someone is up to no good or is lying to him. This has put him on excellent terms with sheriff Hemlock, and several of the other more "law & order" minded members of the community.

Reaction to other PCs
Reactions as of reaching level 2:

Umlo: He's suffered much and still fights on behalf of others. A very noble soul, that one. A little bloodthirsty, but it's understandable. I just hope he doesn't take it too far. When it is time to fight, he's deadly and keeps a cool head. I Like that.
Fern: Bloodthirsty and fear-driven, but more than willing to fight on behalf of the innocent. A good ally, if one who may need a bit of tempering from time to time. Her magic is unsettling, but I suspect that's the point. I'm certainly not willing to call her a witch yet.
Grond: Loud, boisterous, opinionated, dependable, and also bloodthirsty. A stout-hearted, reliable ally. A little strange for a dwarf, though. I'm not used to them commanding nature like that. Just goes to show how much I still have to learn about this world.
Devrin: Boy, he's lethal with those starknives. Despite this, he displays a comforting lack of bloodlust. It's nice to see the years haven't hardened my old friend. While I don't count Desna as my patron deity, she and Erastil are, as I understand it, on reasonably good terms, and having Devrin along has already proven exceedingly useful. I value both his healing magic and his cool head.
Korpi: Egads, this is going to be really interesting. I'm all but certain that it's better to have him leading the goblins than that unsavory "Ripnugget" guy, however.
