"Thats really sad to hear, I knew Ezakian Tobyn and he certainly didn't deserve this. We'll find him and put him to rest again and we'll keep it quiet." promises Devrin.

At the thought of facing an evil necromancer Umlo croutches low to the ground and looks to see if he can follow a path made from the tracks of the grave robbers.

Kyran will trail just behind Umlo, helping where he can. I'm taking the "aid another" action to help Umlo track.

Following the tracks means heading back outside the town walls and picking them up from there. A matching set of depressions marks where a ladder would have stood against the outside of the wall, and the prints can be followed with a bit of work. Unfortunately, after heading northeast for perhaps a quarter mile, they merge with the old coast road and are lost amongst the countless markings marring the packed earth. Umlo could follow the road in hopes of spotting signs where they turned off, but it would be a long shot at best. The coast road is a long one, after all.

About what time of day is it right now? Mid-morning?

"It be seemin' ya lost the trail brother. Kyran, where are the greenskin tribes hidin' themselves about here? If goblins the ones that be takin' the bones then in one o' there lairs is where we will be findin' em."

Male Dwarf Ranger / 2

Umlo points in the direction of where the tracks "seem" to lead. "Does anyone know of any goblin tribes off in this direction, maybe with that information we can head in that direction and we can hope to pick up the trail again"Umlo once again squats low to see if any other signs can be found.

Human Human (1/4 Chelaxian/ 3/4 Varisian - the Chelaxian is from Andoran) Paladin 1

Would Kyran know the answers to those questions, Chris?

Alas, no. He knows that there are a few different goblin tribes scattered about, but as to the whereabouts of their various lairs, no clue. Of course, there is that one potential source of information...

There isn't really anything left to be found on the trail; aside from their tracks, the goblins have left nothing behind, and the trail effectively vanishes at the road.

Human Human (1/4 Chelaxian/ 3/4 Varisian - the Chelaxian is from Andoran) Paladin 1

Kyran looks over at Umlo and Grond. "I don't know where the local goblins lair, but I bet Korpi does. Turns out he may know something useful after all, even if he himself doesn't realize its usefulness."

Grond gives a wicked smile, "Then let's go find the menace and make him be showin' us where the greenskins be hidin'."

Chris, it sounds like I'm going to need the answers to some questions. What does Korpi know?

Korpi:

Spoiler:

Well, there's the Mosswoods, obviously (treacherous bastards), who can be found in the Mosswood (funny that). The Thistletops (also treacherous bastards), from Thistletop (a pattern emerges). The Birdcrunchers (not so treacherous, at least towards Korpi, but close to hand), from the Devil's Platter off to the south. The Seven Tooths (who have threatened to kill him if he snitches on them), from Shanks' Wood. Finally, he kind of knows about the Licktoads, but they're so far distant from his original home that he has no idea how to go about finding them.

The coast road would take a person in the general direction of the lairs of the Seven Tooths, the Mosswoods and the Thistletops.

Human Human (1/4 Chelaxian/ 3/4 Varisian - the Chelaxian is from Andoran) Paladin 1

Kyran looks at the other three. "Let's go find Korpi's hut. It appears he may know something that proves useful in spite of himself."

Human Human (1/4 Chelaxian/ 3/4 Varisian - the Chelaxian is from Andoran) Paladin 1

I just had an idea. Chris, is questioning a hung-over Korpi by using a hangover cure and bright sunlight as motivators considered "evil" or "torture" by your standards?

That depends. Is the hangover cure real? It certainly qualifies as mean, but not evil, I'd say.

Grond is A Okay with "Mean" if its against a goblin. ;)

As real as Kyran can make it. (triple-strength tea then reduced over low heat; it's the tea equivalent of espresso with a couple of raw eggs in it, served cold. It's not going to taste good, but the prodigious caffeiene should kill Korpi's headache absolutely dead unless goblin biology works very differently from human, and the protien, while not in an especially tasty form, will give him a boost to help shake off the fatigue. It's also worth noting that the hangover cure will be handed over (though Korpi won't know that) regardless of what Korpi does. It's just a matter of how quickly and with how much disgust. Kyran is a hard man at times, but he isn't a cruel one. Okay, let's do this. :)

Really? I hadn't caught that about him. ;)

Kyran heads back to the farm, pours all of the morning's tea into a cast-iron pot and lets it reduce down. Once it does, he sets the pot in a rain barrel (not enough to submerge; he'll use a potholder and just lower the pot in enough to cool the tea from the heat bleeding off of the pot into the cold water.) Much hissing and steaming results from this, but the tea cools from very, VERY hot to just warm. At this point, he cracks three fresh eggs into it and pours the entire goopy mess into a tankard with a hinged lid, then quickly rinses out the teapot so he doesn't have a caked-on mess later. He starts for the door, stops for a moment, and grabs some leftovers from breakfast (a couple of biscuits, a few pieces of pork), wraps them up in a napkin and tucks this under his arm, then grabs a waterskin full of clean water. With this, he heads to Korpi's hut.

Does Korpi's hut have anything resembling a locking door, or can Kyran just walk in? This may go very differently depending on how easily Kyran can gain access. Also, Kyran is vacillating between whether he feels it's best to treat Korpi as a spoiled, petulant child or an obstinate animal, the two closest analogs to Korpi's behavior he's encountered before...

Male Dwarf Ranger / 2

Umlo watches Kyran make the "antidote" with a mix of curiosity and disgust, laughing at times at the thought of the little goblin having to drink that concoction. Umlo thinks to himself, "if it were me I'd just have a strong drink in the morning to chase away the hair of the dog". He thinks of adding this as a suggestion, but is too excited to see Korpi's reaction to this drink. Umlo smirks and thinks, "the Goblin will probably like it". Umlo passes the time on Kyran's farm playing with the big ole orange tabby by enticing it to chase a piece of found yarn. This greatly amuses and entertains both Umlo and the feline.

Nestled between two heaps of rubbage, sits Korpi's hut. It's a simple affair; barely tall enough for a goblin to stand upright and built from many slightly rotting pieces of wood. A crude chimney juts from the uneven roof and a filthy, tattered blanket is supended across the door for shade. The door itself is massive (too a goblin, at least) slab of heavy wood and rusty iron thing, suspended on rusty hinges. It takes a moment to recognize it for what it is; an ancient tower shield. Broken bottles are scattered about the hut, surrounding it in a small moat of jagged glass. Hanging from the tattered awning above the door is an impressive array of slivers of metal, small animal bones, and a wide variety of worthless knick-knacks that have caught Korpi's eye. Hanging besides the door is a dirty rope with a crudely drawn representation of a longshank pulling the rope and it ringing a bell. Upon closer examination, Kyran notices that the rope is attached not to a bell, but to a heavy looking iron ball partially concealed by the awning. The door has no visible lock, and creaks open easily.

Can Kyran just walk in? No. Crawl in maybe, but not walk in. ;)

Kyran approaches the hut and opens the door, allowing the morning's sunlight in. Before he wakes the goblin, he wraps his hands in his cloak and brushes away a patch of the broken glass so neither he nor Korpi gets hurt. At this point, he crouches down and shouts into the hut: "Rise and SHINE, Korpi! It's a BEAUTIFUL day out here, and we have LOTS of things to do!" To punctuate this, he bangs loudly on the sturdiest-looking part of the wall with his fist while he's shouting.

Grond follows along amused by Kyran's attempt to sober up the goblin. He will wait outside the ramshackle abode with his warhammer at the ready in case the greenskin gets fiesty.

Male Dwarf Ranger / 2

Umlo too watches from the outside enjoying the scene just a little too much. A small part of him feels bad for the little snot as Umlo remembers his worst hang overs, but he knows Korpi will be fine. "Hey Grond I bet you 1 pint that the little slime enjoys the drink Kyran made...you in...?"

Devrin just shakes his head and hangs back while the others go to wake Kopri. He knows that Kyran wouldn't hurt the little gobber and trusts the man to keep the two dwarves from doing anything too nasty. With that in hand, Devrin takes a left before they approach Kopri's makeshift warren and heads off to see if he can find Fern. He'll ask about town to see if anyone knows where to find the little Gnome who helped save the town yesterday.

Strolling through the market, Fern attentively watches passersby. She is beyond tired, but still perceptive.

She merrily snacks on a fistful of sticky sweet-bread, all but incapacitating her hands. She's busy stuffing her face and licking her fingers clean of the sugar when she overhears:

"The gnome? You mean Fern? Yeah, I saw her just a minute ago. She went that way."

Worried, she stealthily rushes over to the voice, crouching low, desperate for a good view. Spotting Devrin however, she gets a little embarassed, and frantically starts cleaning her self. She misses a large clump of sugar stuck to her cheek, but still moves out to greet Devrin openly.

"Are you looking for me?"

"Aye, I'll bet he be spillin' his insides not long after swollowin' the stuff. I'm in if ye make it two pints," Grond replies with a laugh.

Kyran hear's several something fall of shelves as he bangs on the wall. A moment later Korpi shrieks at the inconsiderate human. "Goes away! Stop screams and goes away." from beneathe the ratty blanket on his small bed.

Kyran, his expression cheerful, opens the door, letting piercing sunlight in.

"Aieee! Wicked longshanks! Wicked!" Korpi howls, burying himself in his filthy brown blanket, trying to hide from the painful sunlight. "Just goes away! I not do nothing to you!"

Kyran smiles innocently and sloshes the hangover cure. "I have something that'll cure the headache, Korpi..."

"Morning. Yeah, thought I'd catch up with you today. Thanks for the help yesterday against all those goblins. Nasty buggers, the lot of them, Kopri is the only exception I've met. How long you been in Sandpoint? I've been through here before but I don't think we've met previously." says Devrin.

"Gives it and go away!". Korpi screeches at the longhshank.

Hey, xdahnx, thought you might find this interesting for Fern, if you're not already familiar with it. I got a copy a while back and I'm itching to play it. It seems very cool.

Kyran chuckles. "I'll make you a deal, Korpi. You tell me where those goblins that attacked last night came from, and I'll give you not only the hangover remedy, but some breakfast as well."

"I wants! Gives it! I tell you anything you want to think about filthy, no-goody, worthless, traitors! I...ugh.". Korpi, if possible, get's even louder with the last few words, sitting bolt upright. This doesn't seem to help with his headache and he collapses whimpering onto his bed. "Give." he says, his voice muffled.

Kyran looks at the goblin with obvious sympathy, but seems conflicted as to whether to actually hand it over, then sighs and hands the stein to Korpi. "I warn you, it's not going to taste very good, but it should work." When you've had it, I'm holding you to your promise to tell me about them, though.

Spoiler:

"Oh me? You were the one cutting goblins down everywhere you went. You handled that...knife thing...so well. As an instrument of death, anyway. I understand that. Really. To move your hands, your eyes, your whole body, in the rhythm of your craft. You kinda lose yourself...." Fern trails off. "As for Sandpoint. I've only been here a couple years. I wasn't BORN here, obviously!" Fern lets out a nervous laugh....

"So, do you think the goblins are going to come back? I still think that whole attack was a diversion. Do you think they got what they wanted? Are goblins ever sated?"

Korpi greedily grabs the tankard and chugs the stuff. He collapses on his bed, the empty tankard rolling under the rickety thing.
Once its taken effect he sits up cautiously. Eyeing Kyran curiously, he asks "Why you wants to know where goblin tribes live? Is you killing them?"

Kyran crouches down so he can look into the hut more comfortably. "They took the body of the former priest. At a bare minimum we want to get that back." He pauses thoughtfully for a moment before continuing. "They also killed a number of townsfolk, so I suppose saying we're going to war with them isn't completely inaccurate, either. And we need to capture or kill whoever's responsible for the raid, though I don't think that was a goblin. The captured goblins mentioned that 'a longshanks' put them up to it." Kyran unwraps the breakfast leftovers and passes them to Korpi."Here, have some food to go with the hangover remedy, or you'll be feeling crummy again in short order." It takes a second, but an inquisitive look comes over him. "There's more than one goblin tribe in the area?"

"A starknife, yes, its a form of my devotion to Desna after a fashion. I've been through Sandpoint before, but its been a while. The town was lucky that you've chosen to live here, your magics were very valuable yesterday. You're every bit as much a hero as we all were yesterday.

"I don't believe we've seen the last of the goblins, no. This morning Kyran, the dwarves, and I went to the graveyard after hearing that something was stolen yesterday. It would appear that the body of the previous priest was taken from his grave during the battle. The obvious conclusion is that the attack was a diversion for the theft. But as to why, I have no idea. Unfortunately the tracks don't lead anywhere either." replies Devrin.

Korpi wrinkles his nose slightly. "Why you want padre's body back? Not even good for eating anymore. Too dry and gone by now, even for soup. Stupid lonshank" He takes a bite of bread and pork and continues to speak, his words muffled by the copiuos amount of food in his mouth. "Oh yes, lots and lots of goblins. There is seven tribes." *holds up six fingers* "There are the Mosswoods, they lives in Mosswood. They is horrible, evil, nasty, treacherous lepers. All mosswoods deserve their insides taken out and their brains stomped out by horses and left to rot in the hot sun. On Thistletop Island is the Thistletop tribe. They is also nasty treacherous bastards. Thistletop rightfully my tribe's but mean Thistletops stealed it from us ages ago. Birdcrunchers is stupid tribe of idiot back-births, but they not so treacherous." *looks shiftily away from Kyran* "Then there is the Seven Tooth tribe. I not be knowing anything about them or where they live. Licktoad tribe not wrong Korpi, they just eat other goblins alive. I not know much about them; I bes a smart goblin so I stayed away from them. I not be wanting to be their dinner."

I hope you can return to us soon; Grond's fun to RP with.

Kyran looks a little revulsed by the descriptions Korpi casually hands out, but quickly tamps it down. "So which ones attacked us?"

"There was goblins from more than one tribe. I saw goblins I knows from Thistletop and Mosswood." with a grin he adds "Then I deaded them."

Male Dwarf Ranger / 2

"I think we all had our share of deaded the attacking goblins Korpi, where can these tribes be located?"

"Were you not listening, dumb stumpy?! I said that the Mosswoods live in Mosswoods. The Thistletops live on Thistletop. Birdcrunchers live in the Devil's Platter. Kyran ignores Korpi's insulting tirade (though it's obviously something that requires some effort) "So our enemy's at Thistletop, then." He looks around, noticing that Devrin has wandered off. "What say the four of us, Devrin, and Fern go see what there is to find at Thistletop?"
