"Precious little," Hemlock says grimly, "The plan was 'kill everybody and burn the town down', which is about the limit as far as cunning goblin plans go. Our captives say it was a 'longshanks' who put them up to this. Somebody certainly left the northern gate open for them. No information on who yet, unfortunately." Hemlock's tone bodes ill for that somebody as soon as he identifies them, "They've also mentioned some sort of 'secret mission' to the graveyard. Nothing to any good purpose, I'm sure."
Unusually talkative for the sheriff, brief as it is. Kyran's clearly in his good books, to merit such exposition. Most people would probably be told that investigations were ongoing, pending an official announcement. It might have something to do with the fact that most of the captives in the jail are there as a result of the actions of Kyran and his companions.

Korpiklanni Horsekiller |

Now standing indignantly on his table, Korpi starts screaming shrilly "F+$~ing Longshanks! I *hic* save your lousy town! I risk my own life *hic* to save your misery no worth ones! I WANTS FOOD!"
Looking a little unsteady, he collapses back into his chair, muttering to himself and taking another drink.

Kyran nods and counters quickly with "Do we have a description of the offending person, and do they look like anyone in town if so?"
You channeled Terry Pratchett for a few sentences in the second paragraph there. :)

Devrin will sneak food to Kopri when the help are not looking (which can't be very often) once the little goblin's plate runs out. Best to keep food in him, lest the alcohol levels rise.
I can see why Kyran and Devrin were friends before this. They think in a remarkably similar way sometimes. Of course, it may be better to exacerbate the speed at which the alcohol leads to the little menace passing out. ;)

I'd lay a gold coin that you were bein' the one that let the rest of 'em in to this peacefull town." Grond stands and points a fat stubby finger at the drunk goblin. Turning to Umlo he says something in dwarven and laughs. Grond then looks about for the inn keeper and says, "If ya wan't this menace tossed out on it's fat head just be sayin' tha word."
Dwarven:

"Where the farmer and the Gnome have run off to, I haven't the foggiest notion. The Priest is smuggling food to the greenskin, but I gather he dosn't want the beast makin' a scene either." Rasing his voice he calls out to the man wearing Desna's symbol, "Hey, how do you think the goblins were able to get in an reek thier havock? Come join us for some ale and let's be puttin' our minds to figurin' this mystery out."

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

Fern leaves the home of the goblin attack, ambling quietly down the street. She's feeling a little dazed from the Kechen Bark, but is more or less headed in the direction of her home and workshop. She has quite an idea for her next sculpture, and wants to work on some preliminary shaping before she loses her inspiration.
She makes no effort to hide herself, so Kyran would be able to spot her easily if he looks hard enough.

Swaying with a combination of alcohol and rage, he glares at the offending dwarves. He clutches an empty mug like a weapon."Hey, how do you think the goblins were able to get in an reek thier havock?

Actually, I figure its only a matter of time before someone hits him.

Korpiklanni Horsekiller |

Korpi bursts into a shrill parody of a child's rhyme.
"I am a little dwarf, short and stout
Here is my beard [placing his hand on his chin],
Here is my axe [waving his other hand as if swinging an axe]
When I try to talk, hear me yammer
Just knock me out and string me up! [mimes hanging himself]"
Done with his performance, Korpi sits back down, giggling to himself.

Kyran Semnir |

Fern turns toward Kyran, not making eye contact with him. As he speaks, she gently shuffles her feet. She's anxious; for a number of reasons.
"What did he say?"
"He said the gate was left open."

"ENOUGH O' YER CRAP!" Grond throws his half full tankard across the common room targeting the drunken goblin.
+3 Dex, -4 non proficient, +1 vs goblins = +0 modifier
I dont know what damage would be, but I would suggest just 1 point non-leathal. Dont worry, I wont do anything that would be actualy a leathal attack to another PC, but I cant resist the taunting. Good Play on Korpi's part :)

Chris Banks |

The mood has definitely been turning against Korpi for a while now. Several patrons have simply gotten up and left rather than listen to his continuing antics. Now he seems to have turned it up a couple of notches. The barkeep looks like he's beginning to regret not taking Grond up on his offer of turfing the goblin out.
Then Grond snaps and hurls a mug at him. The mug bounces off Korpi's shoulder, stinging quite a bit. Odds are he'll have a bruise come morning. Dead silence reigns in that brief instant between the act and the inevitable reaction from Korpi.

Korpiklanni Horsekiller |

Korpi stands in silence for a moment. Then he howls in rage and hurls his tankard in Grond's general direction before tumbling down from his table and making a drunken lunge across the room at the offending dwarf.
Atk 7 Yeah, no actual damage. I expected this; really it was inevitable.

Umlo |

Umlo will intercept Korpi's charge in an attempt to prevent his assult on his dwarven brother and in an attempt to try and break the two of them up before it starts. Grapple attempt.
Attack roll:21
Grapple Attempt
"to the floor you pipsqueak!"

Grond Aardde |

"Bring it ta me Greenskin." Seeing Umlo jump into the fray, Grond leaps to assist him in his attempt to wrestle the goblin to the floor. That's tha idea Umlo. If ya grab one o' his legs and I the other we can be makin' a wish."
Dwarves and Goblins, it had to happen. Wouldn't it be strange if Grond and Korpi become the best of friends? Of course the goblin would probably have to save Gronds life for that kind of extreme personality switch. I can't wait to see how these characters RP out.

![]() |

Would it be more fun for Kyran to show up while you guys are brawling and try to stop it, or afterwards? I can RP things with Fern in such a way as to bring Kyran to the tavern sooner or later as the mood dictates. I know I can be verbose and a bit aggressive, I don't want to steal fun or thunder.

Kyran Semnir |

A shudder passes through Fern.
"So someone here was in on it. Disgusting."She spits on the ground.
"Is there any idea who it was? Do the others know?"
"No, the others don't know yet, at least not that I'm aware of. I just found out from the sheriff." [Kyran pauses] "Who in their right mind would have let a bunch of goblins in? Only an idiot wouldn't know that they'd be repelled before they did any serious damage. They didn't burn anything important down or anything." [a sigh] "I suppose I've answered my own question. Nobody in their right mind would do such a thing. So now we're just looking for someone crazy, stupid, or corrupt enough, or under enough distress from someone who is, to believe the unbelievable." [he looks at Fern] "I've got nothing. Any idea where to start looking?"

It might be even more amusing if Grond saved Korpi's life and Korpi became irritatingly grateful.

Kyran Semnir |

"But what if the goblin attacks were meant only as a diversion? While we all ran around dealing with them, what if there was a totally different part of town, being molested or infested, by the grubby little creatures.
Maybe they got what they wanted?"
"That may well have happened, though if it did, I somehow doubt the goblins were the ones doing the 'important stuff'. Still, you have an excellent point. We should compile a list of the casualties of today's attack to see if there's anything special about them, and see if anything important is missing."

Saying "that way lies madness" about Korpi is like saying "that way lies cold" about Antarctica!

Kyran Semnir |

"I...don't know if I would be good at that kind of thing. Maybe the others could help? Where are they?"
"Probably back at the Rusty Dragon. You appeared to be on your way somewhere, and quite frankly, you look exhausted. Do you want to come with me, or should I let you go get some rest?"

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

"Trust that where I was going, I would find no rest."
Fern shifts her feet, and moves along with Kyran, toward The Rusty Dragon.
"I suppose we could meet up with the others; they should at least know what we know."
After a moment of travelling; "It's weird. I feel implicated in this whole affair, for sure, but even more than that, I feel like the group of us are intertwined as well. That, despite our rampant dissimilarities, we could all be civil and work together over a common goal."

"I'm not sure we're all as dissimilar as we seem at first blush. When the town was attacked, we all reacted the same way. But you're correct. It seems as though if the town were threatened by something again, we're all invested enough to take action as a group and succeed."

Fernriddle Grumblefork |

Nodding, Fern pushes through the door, leading into the Rusty Dragon; She takes one look at the two Dwarves practically pulling on either end of the little goblin, who is himself thrashing about furiously. Her nodding quickly shifts into a disappointed shake.
"Kyran, I'm going home. I was wrong. I'll see you later."

Korpiklanni Horsekiller |

Korpi is brought down by Umlo and begins thrashing wildly, trying to escape the dwarf's grasp. "Lets me go! Lets me go!"
Grapple 8 Grateful and Korpi are two words that don't really go together.

Devrin Vallis |

I can see why Kyran and Devrin were friends before this. They think in a remarkably similar way sometimes. Of course, it may be better to exacerbate the speed at which the alcohol leads to the little menace passing out. ;)
[ooc]I can definitely see similarities in personality, though Devrin is driven to get out and explore, to leave the mundane as far behind as possible. Where Kyran's farming ways are completely beyond Devrin.
"Either there is a hidden way into Sandpoint or someone wasn't searching every wagon that came in." Devrin starts in on the discussion at hand just before the scuffle breaks out. Good time to take your mind off the goblin...
"Come on guys, we are being celebrated here. You're giving adventurers a bad name all three of you." he says standing up from the table but not yet engaging the three. Turning to the rest of the patrons though he says, "Perhaps it is best to let them get it out of their systems. It has been a difficult day for all of us and sometimes it helps to let go a little. I'll keep an eye on things." and he does. If they get out of hand and start breaking things or pulling weapons Devrin will step in.

Kyran Semnir |

Kyran looks at the two dwarves and the goblin brawling. His jaw tightens, a vein sticks out on his neck, his hand moves towards his sword, then it changes course and moves back towards his quiver of arrows for a second before he finally sighs with disgust, walks over to a table next to the three brawlers, and slams his fist down on the heavy wooden tabletop with thunderous force. (Kyran's got improved unarmed strike, so I imagine he can produce a VERY loud "BANG!" though he'll be careful not to actually damage the table. Damage to his own knuckles isn't even on his list of things to worry about at this moment.)
<BAM!!!>
"HOW DARE YOU?! These people have been through enough! You save a few lives and you think that gives you license to brawl like common thugs?! I should get the sheriff ad have you all arrested! This is shameful!" Kyran's face is roughly the color of a freshly-cooked lobster and his eyes are flashing like lightning.
For the record, don't take Kyran's anger as my own. ;) I think this is great...

Umlo |

Umlo looks up suddenly in shock his teeth let go of the goblin's arm, spitting out a small green morsel of flesh, Umlo explains"don't look at me, its his fault!(pointing a stubby finger at the goblin being mauled by the two Dwarves). Umlo's cheeks are red from holding down the fierce competiter in Korpi even gaining a small measure of respect from the tough little greenskin, much like two friends after a scuffle. The redness in his face also comes from embarrassment from the reality of Kyran's words. Umlo releases Korpi and stands he looks at Kyran a bit ashamed then to Devrin and has an "I'm sorry expression painted on his face" Then owing no appoligies to the two humans he instead focuses on the townspeople "I am sorry good people to bring more violence today, I had no right after what we ALL have been through today, I was just trying....well...(Umlo looks to the floor)...I was just trying to stop him from attackin my Brother here, after the town was just attacked by goblins I had a hard time controling my emotions and I guess I took it out on Korpi". Umlo looks at Kyran, Umlo's eyes harden with a cold resolve, "no one nominated you in charge FARMER, don't you ever condemn me for my actions, I appoligise to the town not you". A look at Umlo's face sees shame and his attempt to deflect it to Kyran is an ill attempt, but Dwarves are hard, and do not show remorse all that well...
guys this rocks good action good dialogue

Korpi takes the opportunity to wriggle free from the hatefull dwarves. He crawls away from them. Shaking with rage, he stands and starts screaming "I not starts this, farmer. I drinking, I relaxing when the stubbies start harassing me. I insult them back; I believes in eye for an eye. Then ugly *nodding to Grond* throws tankard at poor little Korpi's face. I just sang a song about them, then they ATTACKED ME!!! This not my fault, they should be arrested. Ask anyone; they starts it and then beats me up when I try to finish it." Korpi crosses his arms across his chest and glares at the dwarves.
Yeah, this is a blast to RP.

Kyran looms over the goblin and speaks in a very slow, measured tone, obviously keeping a tide of fury back through force of will alone. "So you provoked them until one snapped and attacked you, then." [Kyran looks at Grond] "And you let him goad you into a brawl?" [Kyran looks at Umlo]"And you joined in?"[to all three]"Are you all completely crazy, or, failing that, so drunk you may as well be?! What's the matter with you? It wasn't three hours ago you united in defense of this town and now you're fighting like schoolchildren!"[he stops and sighs, then looks back at Umlo.]"You're right. I'm not in charge."[Kyran's face, and voice go as cold and hard as stone] "But this is my town. I have lived here since I was born. My town has been through a lot tonight already. It doesn't need any more. And if you're going to become a threat to my town, I will act accordingly. Don't think the Sheriff doesn't have more room in the cells."[His face softens a bit and he lets out another tired sigh.]"But who am I kidding. I'd rather not fight any more tonight. If any of you need a place to stay, or some strong tea to sober up, come join me on my farm. Otherwise, just try not to hurt each other or anybody else, okay?"

Umlo |

Umlo looks dumbfounded at the stupidity of the Paladin "Town, your TOWN, you think this insignificant speck in the back woods has suffered today, you are worried about one town!!!, Get your head out of your back end and take a look at the world you live in, there is hardship and toil in every corner, Sandpoint is a paradise in comparison." (Umlo's rage at the young and inexperienced Kyran grows)"You Humans and your short sightedness, your time on this place is limited you fail to see the hardships of the other races, do you have children Kyran, do you have a wife?, I did once...(A lone tear streams down Umlo's face). "You see while your race was in its infancy the war between goblinoids and Dwarves has raged on, in fact, if it were not for the Dwarves, your race would have been destroyed hundreds of years ago by the green tide of teeth and chaos you saw today! Who do you think holds this tide back with every breath, who do you think provides peace to these Human lands from all sorts of unnamable horrors from the depths of Glorian!" (Umlo is trembling at the adudacity of this human) Take a guess KYRAN, yes its us Dwarves, its me! its Grond!, and you will have to excuse the animosity we hold towards their kind!" (Umlo points to Korpi) You see its their kind that stole into my dwarven ancestral home, its their kind that slit the throats of my four children while my wife was held to watch, it was their kind that burned my clanhold!. (Umlo is openly sobbing between his words) "it is their kind that took my wife to who knows where and when I sleep at night I have horrors assult my nightmares of what she must have endured and may still be enduring today!" "That Kyran was 35 years ago, so for damn near every day of your life I am face with the thoughts of weather my wife lives or is long dead at the hands of their THIER KIND" (Umlo violently points at Korpi) "And even though I know this rat was not the one who is responsible I know his kind is, all I know is that the fire that burned the flesh of my children was magic in nature, and all I know is that while I can heft my axe, its metal will find its way into their flesh with ease. (Umlo relaxes a bit, and speaks in a slow voice so even the FARMER will understand). "So now KYRAN, you go back to your farm in your town and drink your tea, you can settle for being a HERO for this town, or you can open your eyes and see what lies outside of your community and see evil is everywhere, you can hide here stemming the insignificant goblin comedy, or you can leave the walls that shelter you--more than you shelter them and really make a difference in the war between good and evil. Either way get off your high horse CHILD and show some respect for things your limited existance cannot understand!" (Umlo walks out of the tavern leaving the rest to deal with the goblin) (Umlo turns back at the door) "I will not be lectured by a child! (Umlo exits)

[Kyran stands, dumbfounded for a few seconds, then turns and jogs out the door after Umlo.]"Umlo, wait up![Kyran comes to a halt next to the dwarf.]"I'm sorry for the lecture back there, but surely you can see why I was concerned? Fighting amongst ourselves isn't the answer here, both of us know it. Our true enemy is still out there."[He gestures in the vague direction most of the goblins ran away in]"And if we need to track them back to their lair and make them answer for what they've done, I want you to know, I will not shrink from it."[He pauses]"I am at a loss for words to describe how sorry I am for your loss, honorable sir. But this peaceful little town is all I have ever known, and what happened to you all those years ago almost happened to me tonight."[He pauses a moment]"Except tonight, you were there."[He shakes his head]"Erastil's beard, what a fool I've been. I should be thanking you, not lecturing you for getting into a tussle with an obnoxious local pest. Will you accept my apology?"

(Umlo's eye's brighten as if he is looking at one of his own sons) "If you'll have me I am honored to come, and if this community wills it I would be honored to track down the people responsible for this raid, To you Kyran and to the community of Sandpoint I offer aid, of course that is if you will have me". "Kyran, I must admit, I am uncomfortable around the woman Fern. You see I am from an ancient order of Dwarven witch hunters, I took vows after my wife was taken". (Umlo points to the silver Raven broach on his cloak.)"I am honor bound to destroy those who use magic for evil, Arcane knowledge is too powerful to be in the hands of those who are selfish, undisciplined, and black at heart, I am afraid that if Fern meets one of those requirements, I will be forced to have her executed for crimes against the cosmos" (Umlo looks down and if Kyran expects this as a joke he will soon realise the seriousness of Umlo's oath). "There are dark powers at work in this world, and the tool these godless mortals favor is Magics, if she has thrown her lot in with deamons, devils, or other unmentionables, or if they are the source of her witchcraft, I am honorbound to rid this world of such a tainted soul. These individuals are a threat to the order of this place" (Umlo's voice trails off, a steel resolve in his eyes) "Lets just hope her magics come from a good place shall we".

"So you provoked them until one snapped and attacked you, then."
"I not means to make stubbies attack me; I just having a little joke." under his breathe he adds "Stubbies got no sense of humor."
"Are you all completely crazy, or, failing that, so drunk you may as well be?! What's the matter with you? It wasn't three hours ago you united in defense of this town and now you're fighting like schoolchildren!"
"I not crazy, I goblin!" Korpi says, thumping his chest proudly with one fist. "I not fight like schoolchild. I is fighting like goblin! I fought the other goblins cuz they wrongs me; I owes them."
At Umlo's rant Korpi's anger returns full force. "What about goblin-wives and goblin-runts?" he shrieks. "What about them, huh Stubby? WHAT ABOUT THEM? How many goblin's ears did you take? How many times you sneak into goblin camp at night when we sleep and slash slash! Kill us all! Come in in your shiny armor with your big, nasty axes and kill them all! Kill the runts before they become warriors; kill the wives before they make more runts. That Stubby way! We just return eye for eye. Get off your high horse!". He sticks his tongue out at Umlo's back.

"From what I have seen of Fern, she is a kind and decent, if somewhat timid, soul. I've seen no scholarly trappings about her, which would lead me to believe whatever talent she has is inborn. Therefore, since she cannot control her heritage, all weed concern ourselves with are her actions, which at least so far have been beyond reproach. Is that a fair assessment, my friend?"[He pauses for a moment]"My family is from Andoran, which, as I'm sure you know, used to be a part of Cheliax. My grandfather fought for Andoran for many years. One of his most trusted friends and confidants was a woman named Krinto Helschard, Who was both a sorceress and a paladin of Iomedae. Krinto's great-grandfather had been a Chelish devil-binder, schooled at the Academae in Korvosa, and as a resut, much of her sorcerous power had an unsettlingly hellish tinge to it. Yet despite her unsavory heritage, she was a kind and upright woman, who ultimately died holding a choke point so the innocents behind her could escape from the forces that wanted to do them harm. I don't think my grandfather was ever the same after her loss. I'm almost certain it was one of the reasons he wound up here."
