I found one post in the archives on talk of converting this adventure path to the Forgotten Realms. Unfortunately I can't find any more discussion on the matter. Does anyone now if anything ever became of the effort...
Dunno about anyone else, but...
I placed Rise of the Runelords in the country of Estagund, in the Shining South. The 3 main population centers featured in Rise of the Runelords (Sandpoint, Magnamar, Turtleback Ferry) became the 3 main cities/towns in Estagund (eg. Magnamar becomes Chavyondat, etc).
The beginning of RotRL #3 is the only real bit of trouble, so a tiny bit of geographic hoo-doo (read: explanation/hand-waving) is required.

There won't be any official conversions as Paizo isn't entitled to produce FR contents any more (and is busy enough with their new setting).
There were a few threads with individual transition nots b DMs, but those weren't continued either.
My group already played in the Silver Marches, so the AP was set at the Sword Coast, Mignimar (spelling?) Turnt to Baldur's Gate, the pantheon could be quite easily converted on the fly, the rune lords were from Netheril.
I am still looking forward to feedback from some of the realm "sages" (Eric?!) who were at some time supposed to provide unofficial advice of their own...
Cheers,
Guenther

In the context of a FR conversion, would it be an idea to swap the runelords of Thassilon for perhaps drow (pre-descent) archmages of Ilythiir, and have their fighting/squabbles taking place during The Crown Wars? The forced Descent of the Drow (10,000 years before the Dale Reckoning began) could substitute in for the disaster which brought Thassilon to an end, a few stubborn drow-archmages (runelords) choosing to go into magical seclusion to wait out the centuries whilst their realms folded in chaos as their armies & subjects (cursed by the gods) were forced from the surface. Some of the drow archmages kept wemic servants or slaves, I think, so that one had an alliance with lamias might not be too far a step to take.
On checking my 2nd edition AD & D source 'Cormanthyr: Empire of Elves', I find that Ilythiir was based in the area geographically occupied by Shaar and the Forest of Amtar in the modern Realms, so you have a variety of geographical features (hills, mountains, rivers, lakes, forests) in the region to play around with to try to find a 'fit' for locations.

Why not drop Vasaria on one of the many unmap portions of Toril?
That's the beautiful thing about the realms: you have plenty to choose from.
Why not demonfey as runelords or Zhentil Keep as Korvosa (-> 2nd AP)...
Hopefully FR will survive 4e, and be it just as the setting to place one's Varisia APs into.
The silence in all FR related threads is very loud. Hopefully not all realm fans deserted the Paizo board!
