I'm on the EU servers, yay Defiant! I'm up to two level 50 heroes now although I really need to dip into the new content, I never got around to the Faultline stuff, and there's still some timetravelling I need to do... I at least finished the Rikti War Zone stuff - yay me!

Sounds cool - I'm definetly more of COH/V player than WOW. I'm on US Justice server. Yea - I need to do the Time Traveling stuff and some of the new content. I just finished the Rikti War Zone and was playing around the power proliferation as well. :-)

I love some of the images that come up as I 'watch' this thread. I love 'seeing' Klyndak throw a vampire's head off the spire as he goes out to greet his guests with a 'back-to-work' non-chalance. I love seeing Rellios joking with Yin and then getting lambasted by Klyndak, the smile falling off his face as his past catches up with him. I love Yin hugging a portly soldier who blushes and fingers his horn nervously. Kamris looking stoic anytime, anywhere. Orlan arguing with a stone throne. Hru and Manfred as they do their over-the-top heroics. ... You guys make me laugh.
Amardolem
I laugh at this all the time too. I'm heading across the pond tonight, and for the next week I'll be spotty (tho I convinced the wife that bringing the laptop was a good idea) I may have park outside a gas station or something to post.
So in the event we move along, Hru will attempt to stay by Klyndak's side and pretty much do what he does: Invoke Gorum, channel, attack, invoke Gorum etc. If I'm way errant Rellios or Klydak know what I'm about, so they could make any strategic decisions for Hru

That's the beauty of playing a dwarf, I think. In the same game, they can be equal parts righteous fury with all the seriousness of a full-on avenger. And in another moment, they're pure comic relief.
As a side note, I think it's doubly humorous that Orlan's major foils have turned out to be a river and a stone-carved throne. I'm expecting the elements of air and fire to come along anytime now...and I suspect Yin may already embody that last one. ;-D

Now that makes me laugh. And deep down, maybe a little worried, too... ;-D

I have to say, this has been one of the funnest pbp I've done. The personalities and interaction has been great. And Tarren has managed to 'wrangle' us without having to drop the hammer too much. So, yea, it's been great!
I don't know if Fabes would concur, but it sort of reminds of Flamifur's defunct pbp - in terms of the character's conversations and reactions so far.
Have a safe trip, Amardolem.

I just thought I would ask, out of game, if our honorable DM would prefer the PCs to stay together for the moment. Klyndak sending a group to the keep because it seemed the sensible thing to do but I know running two parties is twice the work. :)
I have no problem with that.
I just finished writing a note to that effect in the game thread though I suppose it more properly belongs here.
The question is really what you are going to do once you get to the Keep.

"Hunh! Let's see..."
- ... be findin' Kerrigan
- ... be settin' the record straight
- ... be tradin' fer supplies
- ... be givin' Manfred and Yin a chance ta pursue their interests
- ... and be bringin' justice ta those with their minds set on doin' evil in the world
"That be the short-list, I reckon..."

Any thoughts regarding mixing up the parties a bit? Send Orlan back with Hru and Yin or something similar? Just so the players who haven't roleplayed together as much to try it out?
For some reason, I have a feeling that won't work out as well. The Foray group has a really high posting rate, higher than the Last Seen group. To mix-and-match now might slow things more than some would wish...and speed things up more than some can handle. I'm game either way. I'm chugging along in the slower posting group, but I can probably match the higher posting rate, as well.
Meanwhile, just to contradict myself, I need to let it be known that I'll be out of town tomorrow and Monday. I won't have internet access to participate. So it'll be Tuesday before Orlan can provide any more meaningful input into the group plans...

There are differences in posting rates. I just wanted to put it out there as a possibility. Of course, half-orcs might not be the best characters to send on diplomatic missions anyhow ;-).
One thing I'd want to know is how soon after the departure of the soldiers from the Keep did that group plan to leave?

Not until everyone is fully rested...and Orlan has a chance to aid Klyndak, and those who are staying, with defensive preparations and some plans for building a bridge to the next Spire.

Plus Yin needs time to talk very nicely to Klyndak about looking in his spellbook she doesn't have Flaming Sphere in her book and the dwarf does, this seems somehow unfair!

Tarren, You mentioned that the personalities, backstories, and aspirations of characters could become more important so I had a little thinky on Yin's goals etc and this is what I came up with:
She has plans to one day visit her parents again but keeps putting that off. She never completed her tribe's trial and as such isn't considered a brave, she's a child or a non-warrior woman in the eyes of the Lyrune Quah and doesn't want to go back and be treated as either, especially an unmarried woman, she's almost certain her parents would try to set her up with someone. She's sometimes more tempted to visit the Sun Clan than her own clan as she's sure they may understand her more.
Other than wanting to have some sort of family she wants to just learn and experience more. New books, new spells, new targets to explode, these are all things Yin craves, she's not a complex soul. All in all she wants somewhere to belong and to just have fun...

** spoiler omitted **
Yin do you have an idea on what the coming of age rituals for the Lyrune Quah entail? They talk about the Sun clan rituals in PF#7 and I'm sure Yin would endure those ... being placed in front of a blazing fire and told to run!
I'm a bit behind in my Pathfinder purchases so if they cover this in another issue, let me know.
Alex Martin
Not to butt in, but I've been reading the PF#10, which has the players endure all kinds of Shoanti ritual adventures - including one or two involving the Lyrune Quah. I'm beginning to see why Yin might be considered an outcast with her love of fire amongst that clan. ;-)
As for Rellios, and I already mentioned it some - I think I could see:
a) If we plan to stay in the Spires, that's cool. Rellios certainly would have no qualms in helping clear the place out; it seems the proper thing in his mind. He has a great deal of respect for Kamris.
b) A trip to Magnimar to speak with his foster family; maybe see what happened with that blacksmith.
c) As you mentioned, he's curious to go back to Korvosa and see if he can clear his name. See what's going on there, at least - I guess it could depend on how much is tied in with the Crimson Throne AP. That was kind of my inspiration for the backstory - although in no way would I expect us to plunge into that whole storyline.
d) Generally, I'm willing to go with whatever the group wants. Helping out his new friends like Hru, Manfred, Yin, and Kamris is certainly not something Rellios would decline.
In Hru's case, I think he's wanting the half-orc to find his place in the world; if that's what he wants. Rellios is developing an attachment to Yin and Kamris. These two are starting to feel like something comforting - maybe because they speak elven if nothing else. Manfred, he's spent alot of time among humans, so he's not so curious about him just yet - but I can see some ideas brewing.
Hope that's not too much drama.
FabesMinis
Well, to be honest, I kind of feel that Kamris' story has come to an end - I sort of feel that he would wander off back to the woods and go back to his solitude. It's been a great game, but I can't see me keeping up the interest with him as a character.

Okay. Thanks for letting me know. He could always disappear into the valley beneath the spires ...
But if you want to do something else with him or enter another game with another character let me know.
BTW all, I've just bought 'River Into Darkness' and am going to try to get another PbP going next week.

Lyrune Quah Rite of Passage: The Black Walk. On a moonless night, the young brave must find the entrance to an underground cave complex in the Wyvern Mountains. He must then traverse the dangerous caverns and emerge on the other side, a feat typically lasting several days. It is during the Black Walk that many Lyrune-Quah braves first receive a vision from their future totems.
Their common totems being Bat, cave bear, field mouse, moon, mountain lion, mountains, owl, rainstorm, stars, wolf.
All taken from PF10. I can happily type up stuff for the other clans as well if that'll help.
More about Yin and the rite:
I sort of feel that he would wander off back to the woods and go back to his solitude.
Aww! Yin would miss him horribly, he's her Yang! ..well technically he's her Yin as Yang is the one aligned with fire and Yin is the more sedate one, but you get the idea! :P
Camris
As for Sir Manfred, well...
The situation at home when he left was very much like the brothers in the book/movie "Stardust" by Neil Gaiman only with plate armor. If his father ever dies, and he is kind of elderly, it will be a "there can be only one" succession scenario. He would be drawn in because when he left home he was the weakest one of the seven brothers, and they would approach him to either ally with him or kill him as a rival. Naturally, GM call whether this happens.
For now, he intends to serve as a Knight and leige man to Lord Orlan and/or King Klyndak. He really, really likes that they are so forthright about what they want, unlike the human ones he's known, and wishes to support and encourage that in a leader; not least because he really sucks at the greasy doublspeak of politics. He suspects the Spires may eventually become a "Dwarves Only" zone, but he will serve as long as he can. As for his other companions, he would really like to learn more about Hru, since he is nothing like the stories he's heard of Orcs. Rellios is intelligent and civilized and he likes speaking with him. Kamris is a puzzle he hasn't unravelled yet. And Yin... his feelings are mixed to say the least; he loves her for her bright spirit and he can't forgive her for murdering that prisoner. Whenever he has occasion to speak to her, he tends to freeze up and evade.
As for what I intend for Sir Manfred in the future, given the shock of meeting a monster he couln't affect, he will realize that there is more to being a Knight than making a name for himself. He will dedicate his being to opposing monstrous supernatural evil as well. All further levels will be gained as Paladin, though he won't even realize it at first.

he can't forgive her for murdering that prisoner.
Executing, she thought she was executing. There's a difference :P
Plus, she feels awful about it and I'm sure if she's going along with Manny & Orlan she'll be doing her best to get them to understand what she was thinking and to get them to forgive her.
Alex Martin
Eeeks! I just noticed my Yin is short one feat *scampers off to pick one*
Shouldn't she be hopping around to pick one - with only one foot? Should her nickname be gimpy or pegleg or somesuch? (I keed I keed) ;-)
(Get it? One feat...heh heh...not funny?)
Bah...too much caffenie this morning...
Alex Martin
If that's the case, we'll miss you, bud. I understand from a player perspective; but I think the characters are going to be doing a bit of head-scratching if you just "blend into the background" as it were.
Are you thinking 'I'm done with this thread', or do you want to switch to some other character/class, as Tarren mentioned. Just wondering.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
I'm pretty much done I think; Kamris has some new gear, and an interesting experience but doesn't really want to get embroiled in a dispute between Kerrigan and Klyndak.
Kamris is welcome to show up in any of my threads, sword in hand, ready to fight. Surprise me. Pop in just when the battle seems to be going against the players.
I hear there is a ship leaving for the Mwangi Expanse soon...
