I have to say, when I read this...I couldn't stop laughing. Just picturing the knight stuffing him in like he was a cannonball, with a stick.

I just don't see why we can't just y'know.. blow up the statue, then we'd definately all fit without squishing..

Did you indicate at some point the "Last Seen" group would be leveling up again? I'm inclined to finish this Azubal encounter if we can bag him. But if we're chasing down a dead-end, we can stop and level, if necessary. Just thought I'd ask in case that was the plan all along...

The "Last Seen" group can level up when they are inclined to do so. As for whether this is a dead end or an undead end -- bruhahahah -- I will not say.

Well, let's see where this takes us and then we'll make the call on where we can reasonably stop off and level up.

Okay, this next bit may get bloody. I have a feeling a couple of you might not make it out.

When Orlan channeled positive energy, he sent Azubal running ... failed will save. Azubal did manage to pull it together and when Kamris and Yin crawled into his hiding space, he figured now would be a good time to attack.

You guys have kicked some major ass but I can't imagine this being good. So before it goes all bad: Thanks for playing. This game has been great and you have been very patient with me.

Well, what's the point of being long-suffering, if not to be taken out by an absurdly powerful opponent?

It's not as if I myself am I actually going to be killed, after all.

P.S. If Kamris dies, can I play Quarrel? ;)

Hmmm...I've got mixed feelings with that. This is just a playtest, so I keep telling myself I'm not particularly attached to this character...but he's a blast to play. And all of the other PCs are fun to interact with because we've each got very distinctive personalities.

In addition, I'm a little surprised to find that Azubal is indeed a true vampire. If so, we seem particularly overmatched...even if we did level up. In which case, what adventure is it exactly that we're playtesting? There's really no way to eke out an EL/CR rating that matches this party up with a vampire...or whatever Azubal seems to be. Even if we did manage to join forces with the "Foray" group, I still get the impression we wouldn't survive it. So, out of curiosity, why did you choose this particular adventure for the playtest and start us as 1st level heroes anyway? Seems like we'll all be killed eventually...and then there's no more playtest, right?

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Ahhh...so that's what happened. I thought maybe he was just a goblin vampire spawn or something...and maybe we'd actually managed to damage him enough to drop him to 0 hp and drive him back to his coffin. So...I guess not. And we're doomed! ;-D

The characters are great. I love these characters. I love Manfred's antics with the draft horse (Manny does know that Tankard was eaten by the primitives, right? ... No? Whoops!). I love Kamris' dour wisdom and Yin's flightiness and willingness to set things on fire.

Yes, Azubal is a vampire. The adventure is based upon 'Into the Wilderness' by Goodman Games. The module suggests giving the characters strong indications that Azubal is a vampire and then a chance to run away. Also, Azubal is hesitant to create spawn but he's coming around. He's pegged at CR 3 but if he's played with any intelligence he's quite deadly.

Well, things are going to get interesting. I have some ideas about where things go from here. They are quite colorful and involve all of you (though not necessarily your characters per se) but let's see how this battle plays out.

Absolutely.

Spoiler for Yin and Kamris:

Spoiler:

How do you feel about playing a vampire version of your character? Maybe it is my inner misogynist but I can really imagine Yin as a vampire. ... Just asking.

Yin's running ahead was always going to be her downfall, I've actually never lost a RP character, ever. So this'll possibly be a new experience for me ;)

Tarren:

Spoiler:
I could play Yin as a vampire, although I could see her giving the boys strict instructions that if she does anything that seems 'evil' that they're to kill her. It could be interesting to say the least... Besides Yin's impulsiveness was bound to lead to death or something bad sometime soon! Plus she needs to survive in some way to tell off the frontline fighters for throwing her and Kamris in first!

Damn. I don't mind you guys living but I want to make it perfectly clear -- I was not taking it easy on you. You got lucky. I didn't fudge a roll to keep players alive.

Spoiler for Yin:

Spoiler:

Yin,
I meant a vampiric vampire not a vampire Lestat or a Buffy's buddy Angel type vampire. Azubal may start looking to spawn.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Sorry I posted whilst not terribly awake. I can play a vampiric vampire, tis worth a shot! She would of course try to fight off the link to Azubal to tell the boys to kill her and/or yell at them for letting her get like that :P Of course survival is preferable but I can see her chasing after the vamp again to make sure he doesn't go after her companions... I really hate this self-sacrificing streak a lot of my characters seem to end up with!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

That's the beauty of this game. Sometimes things just go your way. We need level up before meeting him again. That or we find his coffin-home really quickly (if it isn't the armour).

N' we were after bein' only 1st level at the time too :p

But never fear. We'll be back 'n finish em off good.

Course iffin the rescue party dies, twill be quite ironic...

Yeah, he's a vampire. Not a legit one by the rules though.

Azubal was a weakling of his tribe -- the bloodworms -- until he stumbled upon the statue and the secret room. He began to play at being the bat-winged god to trick his tribe members and get rewards and power but then he caught the attention of the slumbering god of secrets who rewarded him for his trickery by granting him vampire status -- even though he lacked the prerequisite 5 hit dice. So, you've got a vampire that is slowly becoming aware of his powers. You've deprived him of his minions and now he is pissed. The fun begins.

Thought I would post this question here...

Does the threatened collapse of the Foray thread mean that the DM is desiring a new combined thread for the two groups?

If the last seen group travels across the bridge to the thronespire then I think we will pick things up in the foray thread. Since they move into your space, they move into your thread. We could use a new thread if desired.

For now, we will continue on with both threads actions until this happens. Just letting you know. Foray group may get yanked out of garrisonspire suddenly for no reason but continue with your journey.

No worries on this one. I'm actually relieved not to have to have that in-party discussion on "what do with prisoners"...so Yin (and her somewhat shaky mental makeup) is the perfect solution to this problem. Now Orlan doesn't have to execute One-Arm. And the party's not put at risk setting him free. It's the best of both worlds, really. ;-D

Yeah... I have been hoping that the party will help stabilize her a bit as she does get away from me sometimes, I can see this one helping her out though:

"What? You didn't mean 'burn him to a crisp while us of better moral fiber look the other way' with that arm wave? Oh.." *feels guilty and tries at least considering thinking before acting*

All those brains and so little impulse control, it's a waste of her smarts and appears to just lead her into more trouble. She needs to find a better balance.

Oh, and I'm sure Manny being disapproving at her will make her feel really bad

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Erm... yeah... that was disturbing.

Kamris is going to spend much of the rest of the adventure very angry now.

a) He was all for releasing One-Arm

b) He was after moreinformation

I suddenly feel really guilty :\ It seemed like a suitably Yin misinterpretation of directions, especially considering it was a cleric of an evil god & the minion of the vampire that hurt Kamris so badly.

This is probably going to lead to a very depressed fireweaver, I don't know if she can handle the people she's come to care about being so angry at her.

Bleh. *feels lame*

Onearm would have fried your asses first chance he got. Taking his holy symbol was smart but he had ranks in sleight of hand. As soon as it would have mattered, he would have hit you with his uncast 'Inflict Moderate Wounds' and then start channeling negative energy.

I know of a well-maintained batcave with a batthrone on it that may be about to go empty.

Hey all,

You guys have been keeping me sane for the last few months. I've been working on my PhD thesis* and it has gotten quite boring. I'm always on the computer so being able to check in here has been a nice distraction but not one that would stop me from doing my work. Thanks for the help.

I'm considering having Orlan continue down the path of servitude to Torag and take another cleric level. Manfred seems to have the fighter role kind of pinned down. And Orlan can certainly aid in that department with the various spells that enhance his attacks and AC. But, just from a party cohesion angle, I think we've got a great diverse group. Wizard? Check. Rogue? Check. Heavy melee Fighter? Check. Cleric? Yeah, as long as Orlan maintains it.

So, Level 2 cleric, here I come...but it's never going to be his favored class (it's still Fighter)...and I don't see him continuing as a Cleric beyond level 4 (due to the Wisdom requirements for spellcasting and Orlan has Wis 12).

Additional hit points... (1d8=6)

Whee PF10 & info on the Shoanti! Upon reading up on Yin's clan I can really see why they didn't know what to make of her and why she left.

Pathfinder #10 wrote:

I think we can safely say Yin usually falls into the 'wildly swinging' in her approach! I'm starting to think she perhaps spent too much time near members of the sun clan at some point!!

I was also amused to see that one of her clans common totems is the bat!

I'm loving the whole thing with Yin and the boys right now. ;-)

Here is a map of the two spires. The 'Last Seen' group has only visited the first spire (batspire) and has just crossed the bridge to 'Thronespire'.
