Greetings and welcome to the Pathfinder RPG General Discussion forum.
This is the forum for general comments about the Pathfinder RPG and discussing the system with other fans. This is also where we will post announcements about upcoming Alpha releases and opportunities to play the game.
This forum should also be used to post up new rules and suggestions about parts of the system that have not yet appeared in an Alpha document.
We need your help to make this the best game possible. Thanks for checking out the Pathfinder RPG and welcome aboard.

Thank you Jason. Thank you very much.
And thanks to the whole Paizo crew.

This announcement got me in hot water with my boss. I literally threw my head back and howled as I savored this glorious moment. My boss knocked on my door seconds later and asked to talk to me...heh...Long story short, he understood, but asked me to be a little less exhuberant when it comes to my geekery on the job.

Jason, this announcement made my day. It's worth pulling those tiny goblin arrows out of my backside for :)

First, let me say I think the choice you guys made was brave and gutsy.
Second, I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope your new venture succeeds.
Third, my prediction is that in the short term this will do well, and in the long term it will prove an unwise move. Eventually most people will move over to 4e, and leave the vestiges of 3e behind. I suspect in two-three years we will see someone like Necro buying out Paizo for pennies on the dollar.
But don't let that negative prediction drag anyone down. I genuinely hope I am wrong, since I have enjoyed a lot of Paizo products over the years, and know the people at Paizo are good people who are skilled creators.
Good Luck Paizo!

Is this combing out in August 2009 or 2008? I'm looking forward to it!
There will be an alpha playtest via FREE PDF starting right now. In August 2008, we will release the beta playtest in a FREE PDF and a full-color 300+ page rulebook that you will have to pay for. In August 2009, you will be able to buy the final hardcover, full-color rulebook.

Sorry to say I'm disappointed. While a lot of good work has been done to improve 3.5 (Bo9S, warlocks, reserve feats, etc.), the remaining problems are too fundamental to patch (diverging good/bad attacks and saves, wonky skill system, accounting for spell selections and too many bonuses/penalties). While I'm sure it won't be perfect, it looks like 4e will be even better.
I've loved Paizo's adventures starting with Shackled City through Rise of the Runelords; I sincerely think that Paizo makes the best adventures for D&D. But me and my group will be moving on. I hope Paizo will eventually join us in 4th edition.

BMM:
I hope you come back and look at the FREE PDFs of the alpha playtest rules. Jason has been working hard to fix many of the problems you list above while remaining backwards compatible. I wasn't sure if it would work, but what I have seen has made me a believer. If you get involved, you can help us make the Pathfinder RPG the RPG that you will love to play. How often to you get a chance to have input into the game you love? Did I mention that the playtest rules are FREE? :)
