Yay, a new home, just what the party needs after such a long journey ;)

zooma there is a spell i am interested in taking later called "awaken sin"
pg 21 spell compendium

i was wondering if you would rule the wisdom damage it has a chance to do as enough to break the vow of non violence i'll be taking later?

i thought perhaps due to wis being a mental stat and i am causing no "harm" i might be able to get away with it

Liberty's Edge

Jinx- I will read over the spell a little later and get back too you soon!

Greyhawk = Oerth

Forgotten Realms = Abeir-Toril, or just Toril usually. Faerûn is the main continent and is what is generally being referred to when people talk about "The Realms".

Just FYI, no biggie.

And err... stupid me in my sleep-deprived, addled state forgot to answer the actual question.

We are from Golarion and have been transported to another world. That means that you can take one of the Bonus Feats from the RotRL Player's Guide if you want.

Cheers

Male Human Favoured Soul 1

/headdesk.... of course Golarion... you mean that planet that we were told we came from at the beginning of the game?

note to self: dont post after midnight

Jinx-the spell seems cool so if you survive the spell is ok...hehe

Does anyone know of a good map program I can use for this game and how to use it?

Zoomackulas Eichendar wrote:

Depending on what your looking for, I'm sure there are many. I've heard of AutoRealm and the comments where positive, though i've never used it. I believe it may generate landscapes but not sure about combat maps if that’s what your looking for, i also believe this was a free product, though not entirely sure.

There’s also Campaign Cartographer by Profantasy which seems popular and looks to have everything you might need. Its just a matter of reading through the features of the program and the add-ons that they have for it.

Also there’s Fractal Mapper

Unfortunately I’ve not used these programs

Oh, there’s RPTools, its free and I’ve used the token tool myself which is extremely easy to use, though I’ve only marginally played with the other stuff but it looks like something that may be useful. I figure once a map has been inserted and tokens in place, you might be able to do a “print screen” to copy it to memory, then paste it into a graphs program.

I myself just make combat maps by copying tiles found from different sources freely on the web and/or using stuff found in modules/boxsets etc… here some Examples, you’ll need to scroll down just a tad.

Below are a few other things that may be useful and/or handy to have.

Forgotten Realms Atlas: though no longer in production there are copies still found on eBay.

Pdf files ranging around $4-$5
Forgotten Realms City of Splendors (2nd ed. I believe), lots of info about Waterdeep. Contains a floor map of the “Thirsty Throat” tavern, a map of the adventures quarter area and a overview map of the city itself.

City System Box Set: I like the map here of Waterdeep as its more of a closer street level view of the city.

I’ve noticed that a few players have both Common and Chelaxian as their languages known, but its been posted on the boards that Chelaxian = Common, according to James Jacobs. So those players should chose an additional language if their INT bonus calls for it.

If it matters, I noted that some players haven’t included what kind of human race they are, though they may have a language included it may not necessarily mean that’s their race, I guess it also depends if each race is given its respective race language as a bonus language?

"Brenon "jinx" Corto's"]FYI: this is based off max sorc/wiz starting money…. I couldn’t to save my life find favored soul starting cash in the complete divine… anybody knows please get back to me

Don’t know if this been answered but its 5d4 x10 (same as a Cleric)

hope the above is helpful :)

Hey Zoom, originally you posted you were after a party of 6, if this is still so I like to jump in if at all possible. This group looks like another fighter type or maybe a healer type could be of use. I have a few concepts for character entry (though I don’t have a character made up yet, just the class(es) of interest). I’ve read all the threads for both groups and had actually planned to just read along, so its fine if you can’t fit me in.

Thxs

Character entry and class(es)

Spoiler:

1st option: character was a member of the party, he was thought dead (no pulse detected) as he was near mangled and slammed against the back wall near the escape passage. He comes to as the creature is distracted and/or busy elsewhere, arrives at Waterdeep after the characters, maybe found (healed) asleep/resting in one of the temples.

2nd option: character is from a previous group that was also tricked (would guess the map seller has pulled this trick on several occasions figuring since none have returned that it’s a safe con). He could have just been in the city for about a week and thus is an avenue to provide players with a bit of basic info about the city (different wards of the city and the such), he could be sitting in the next tavern/location that the pc’s visit. Being a textbook looking Chelaxian would give cause to the pc’s to interact/confront with him.

3rd option: combines options 1 and 2, my character could be from a previous party and found in a temple having just recently recovered from injuries and thus is clueless as to where he is and how he got there. Perhaps a passing clergy group/member found him.

Also this would work if the character is from the same group and is just being brought into a temple where one of the pc's is.

Fighter type:
thinking of a Duskblade/Hexblade/PRC? For the fighter type (not sure which class I would start off with first)

Healer type: (meant to be a bit more combat oriented)
thinking of a Duskblade/Cleric/PRC? (not sure which class I would start off with first, likely Cleric or other healing type class)

Thanks for all the info Lorderi! I downloaded maptool a week ago and found that it works great and I can use it in many ways which will be fun for all the games I am running.

As to jumping into the game, I think we will need you to fill a spot that has not posted in two weeks for whatever reason. I hope he comes back but just in case I want to cover that spot now before things heat up for the group, which should be real soon. So please create a rogue type character using the rules in the gamer connection thread "A call for some brave adventurers"

I've had some ideas already in place in case of someone had to leave or just disappeared from the game so once your character is ready I will tell you where you start. You will be in group 2 of course! Your charater has not been part of this group. He was part of another group. You are in Waterdeep and have been there for about a week now, unsure how to get home, scared and just getting by so far. Your money is real tight now and you are looking for any help you can.

Welcome aboard Lorderl, looking forward to playing with you =)

I was getting a bit worried about Jebb (finerion) myself actually. Maybe I scared him off with my veiled references to his thieving talents :\

Thxs for the warm welcome, this looks to have the making of a good game.

my classs(es) will still allow Jebb to maintain his own character niche, on the event of his return.

most of my character is complete and will have the remainder done sometime today.

Scout

ok, if this works the post should go up as my alias for this game. I'm fairly new to the site, well posting in it anyways.

character is pretty much done, i'll like to give it a last look over first, need to look at some background, landscape etc.., that may change a minor thing or two.

I do have a question about Religion/Deities as I'm taken the "True Believer" feat and will also need to take "Weapon Focus" to match my deities weapon, both are required for the PRC i have in mind.

Do we stick with the deities of the old world, or would/do i switch over to a FR deity. Many non-cleric classes worship more than one deity.

would i later apply the "True Believer" to the new deity? the "True Believer" feat also affects my alignment choice, basically I'm looking to matchup a deity with my alignment that will also have the weapon that i want to be my characters main weapon of choice, also perfer it be an Elven deity.

oh, i started this character with the starting languages of an Elf since it matches the backgound. Let me know if you prefer I use the human standard of just common?

I actually added in Open Locks (cc) as a last minute thing, was orginal going with Sense Motive and/or Speak Languages.

so no real "thieving talents" (Sleight of Hand) here :)

so, I've noticed from reading other threads that there is no method of PMing or even seeing which other members are currently on the boards.

so is the standard method just to spoiler a message thats intented for someone else?

Liberty's Edge

Carnesir- Deities should be from Golorion!
Unfortunatly this site only has the simple posting method, I had thought of giving out my email for DM ears only stuff but am going with the trust factor here. I think everyone knows that they are just cheating themselves by looking under others spoiler and loosing some of the fun for themselves.

Check the out the game thread because you character is starting!

ok, I'll go over the details of the deities aspect that I'm concerned about as their are some feats I've come across that may require a character to match the deites alignment.

The trust factor works for me as i also use it in the PBP game I'm DMing on the Reaper boards.

I see were using Invisiable Castle for our dice rolls, so i was curious, do we have a campaign name we should use?

my first post is up, and I'm excited to see how well we fare in the realms.

For the invisible castle just put your pc name in and when you link the roll to your post i will be able to click on it to check.

And could you site where the feat True Believer and the shield Dastana are for me so I can check them out!
Thanks

oops, i should have listed sources for odd game features.

True Believer is from Complete Divine pg86

Dastana is from the Arms and Equipment Guide pg15

let me know if either is unusable and I'll make the neccesary adjustments.

Male Human (Chelaxian), Born in Korvosa, raised in Elven lands Scout 1

Are feats from the Planar Handbook allowed?

The Natural Heavyweight pg40, is a useful feat for the Scout class.

Looking at the Cityscape book since were mainly going for dungeon and urban setting,

I’d like to replace Knowledge (Nature) for Knowledge (local) as per the guidelines of Urban Class Features. Skilled City-Dweller in the part 1 of the web enhancement.

Only as a suggestion, if its not over-balanced, as it seems to undermine the Rogue class. I was wondering if its possible to make the Open Locks a class skill, giving up Ride and Swim, since neither seem to make much sense for a scout, especially in an urban campaign. The change would only increase Carnesîr current ranks in Open Locks by 2.

I do plan on continuing adding skill points to Open Locks, though Carnesîr will drudge behind an actual rogue in this respect.

Liberty's Edge

Carnsir-

True Believer and Dastana are ok as is the skilled city dweller.
Im going to say no to the planar book!
Open locks as a class skill is ok
You might want to look at stuff in the Dungeonscape book if you have it

i totally overlooked this book thx. you think with the name "Dungeonscape" it would be one of the top to look at, LOL!

This should be interesting, I'll be swapping out the Dodge feat for the Trap Engineer feat (Dungeonscape pg46), so I'll be adjusting skills to compensate.

The Trap Sensitivity feat is very nice, to bad Rogues must wait till level 6 to be able to acquire it.

Anything else in this book that might warrant looking at?

That Trapsmith PRC is neat, though i have my eye on the Pious Templar.

How many number of class(es) and/or PRC(s) can players select?

Yeah I like the book too! Haven't had much time to look through it though, running 3 games and work and all. And I just had a crazy new idea for a game today that would pit 4 groups(4 in each group) against each other all running independantly of each other. So that would be 15 people currently plus the 16 I would be adding if I did this, its just crazy but brilliant at the same time. Anyway, we'll see how the roleplaying goes and as you move up levels we can see then if anyone wants to add classes, I know some of the group had plans for adding classes but they might change their minds as we roleplay this out. Everything looks good so off we go.....

wow, thats alot! no way i could handle all that, mostly because i'm a really slow typer, also not to mention that geting my thoughts into something that the rest of the human race can read and make sense of can be quite challenging in itself :)

If i don't fall asleep at my keyboard, having only 3.5 hours of sleep kast night (my daughter had a sleep-over last night and they got up really early) and recently returning from having a nice filling steak dinner and a couple cold ones, I'm going to try very hard to finish off my character details before bed. (hence why i made a game post first)

I was searching the board earlier as i thought i recalled a certain description about Elves of Golaron, i know for the most part they're like that Iconic Rogue character, but i thought there was a bit more description about them? I'm thinking the ears for some reason or maybe the eyes?

anyways this could/would allow Carnesir to associate Orelan with Golaron right away.

Yeah, both the ears and the eyes are different.

The ears are bigger than a normal elf's. Sort of half-way between D&D Elves and WoW Elves.
The eyes have practically no whites, maybe just a bare hint. They are pretty much all colour.

Cheers

You know I haven't played RotRL yet, but after having a flip through I have just realized that Artemis' background is very close to Belor Hemlock's, even down to me using Belor's picture for him.
Did anyone else see this?

flash_cxxi wrote:

I did make a partial connection between the two, at first I actually thought Artemis was a Shoanti (as Belor Hemlock's).

Also my first post here (below) somewhat address this

I know its minor but just for completion, we could still use a ruling here, do humans receive their respective nationality as a free bonus language or select it using their INT bonus if applicable?

I initially did look over all the character profiles that why I mentioned the above. (I’m always looking for characters to use as npc’s for when I DM a game),

Also for Artemis', I noticed that your due 4 skill points (likely the 4 bonus points humans get at first level). You also left out the +1 Will Bonus for the Country Born feat.

For Magatha Aegisdotir I have her due 3 skill points and 2 feats, 1 of which is a ROTRL feat.

The others I haven’t looked into yet.

Not to worry as I don’t meta-game knowledge/info that’s not apparent. Like I did with Artemis' decription.

Different characters may want different outfits for various occasions. A beginning character is assumed to have an artisan’s, entertainer’s, explorer’s, monk’s, peasant’s, scholar’s, or traveler’s outfit. This first outfit is free and does not count against the amount of weight a character can carry.

Well he was left in the village when he was a baby, so it is possible that he could be of Shoanti heritage, but he was raised by Chelaxians (descent).

Both of my Knowledges are (cc) Skills, so that's where the other 4 points went. I did forget the +1 Will Save though, thanks for picking that up for me =)

Woo Hoo, didn't realize that my first clothes were free. Looks like I've got some more gp left (which is good because I was getting a bit low)

Character sheet looks good. It seems to me the most posting is during the week. i know a few have mentioned having kids so I bet most of their time is spent with them on the weekends. I tend to post after I get off work which is around midnight (pacific time). I cook(chef) for a living and work nights because its more fun for me than flipping a million eggs and I not a morning person anyway. Still rebelling from my parents making me go to bed early I guess.

Lem is still alive so who knows......

Hey gang, I'm sorta missing something here.

I've already made a few attempts at some dialog, but there's be no response. granted Artemis didn't understand the <elven>, but thats easily resolved by asking Orelan, or ask Spider to speak in common.

Orelan wrote:

He has seemingly ignored Carnesir since inviting him along, assuming that he will follow.

why ignore the role-playing? I would think finding out that soneone else is for your world would get some kind of reponse, since you've only recently been dumpped here as well.

Not even a "oh, I'm such & such and this is such & such".

and I'm really at a loss as to why no one bothered to reply to the scene in the Blackstar Inn lobby?

granted I'll have to follow but no dialog at all makes it difficult on my part, my characters not some stray dog that follows along what he thinks is his next meal. so please, some minor dialog from anyone would help greatly

Do you all just for the sake of moving the story along, want to move past the minor getting to know one another stuff and say were all mates now?

Or is it perhaps in my posting style?

Male Human Favoured Soul 1

perhaps he is role playing his character and not wanting to reveal to much about himself to a complete stranger.
we are new here
we dont know how we got here
we dont know how we are getting back
we dont know if we been set up
i think its normal for ppl in this party to be a bit brief/stand of'ish seeing as we are knee deep in the "trust nobody" stage of the adventure.

this is of course all speculation.

IMO accepting somebody just because you know OOC there not here to harm you is meta-gaming and makes for poor role playing

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

I'm assuming that Orelan will explain more once we are ensconced in the Inn and we have a chance for the rest of the party to catch up. There is no point having a big get to know you in the middle of the street and from what Orelan has told me (IC) I would be inclined to wait for a more private venue to question you about where you are from and what you know. Orelan would assume (as Artemis would if he had understood anything of what you said) that you were just as curious as us about what had happened to you and that you would follow because of this. Artemi is also an Officer of the Law and although he is a friendly fellow, he also has a suspicious streak.
Of course that's just my (and Artemis') opinions, I can't really speak for Orelan/Will.

EDIT: and also what Jinx/RickyFlame said =)

I understand and agree with all the above, hence why i tried to garner some info.

but still, no reply at all or so much as an intro...

I'm basically taking it for granted that there was some type of intro or continued dialog of sorts, else i doubt anyone would continue to go along with someone else without anything being said between them before reaching the inn. a "follow me, or come along" alone just wouldn't cut it, hence the stray dog comparison.

my latest post suggest since Carnesîr been here about a week he taken lodging elsewhere, perhaps the south ward (adventures quarter) where there's lodging for the poor man, something like silvers per nightwith meals :)
