Thank to Charles Evans for pointing out in chat about extremists and Xtremists.
The same assumption can be made with people who hate almost anything. Take snowboarding as an example. People who go to an Olympics chat room to spread hate about snowboarding are probably either too poor (not enough time, bad location, etc) to play, have perfected their boards and don't want to change them or they're the old guards of winter sports and see any event where players have to be tested for THC as a 'performance enhancer' as an abomination to snow itself.
(I'm also beginning to suspect that many of the 4E bashers don't like D&D in any of its incarnations and are just using a new edition as an excuse to crawl out of the woodwork, especially the nonsubscribing 'FLGS supporters' here. However, that's a topic for another thread.)

Takasi:
You omit to mention that I raised the question of whether or not just because someone weeps, that automatically means that they *hate* something. People may weep for other reasons than hatred.... grief, pity, even joy.

People who are angry weep, therefore anyone who weeps is angry. In the same fashion, extremist grognards, rules lawyers and the unfortunate will not play new rule systems, therefore if you don't play you must be one of the three. At least, that's the conclusion others are making.

I'm a rules lawyer. Example: the first post in this thread should probably list druid instead of scout, since scouts don't have much errata; there's been a little bit of clarification on Skirmish, and some omitted class skills were officially added back in, but nothing has seen more errata than Wild Shape.
I am absolutely looking forward to 4e.
Being a rules lawyer doesn't mean we love rules for rules' sake. Rules lawyers don't love GURPS because it has a lot of rules; rules lawyers love GURPS because it has a lot of GOOD rules. Are there good rules in 3e? Absolutely. Are there bad rules in 3e? You better believe it.
4e is like one great, huge errata for us, in many ways. Like 3.5, really.

Going back to another group who will refuse to play 4th edition: society's rejects. These people resent young kids with their fancy new sneakers and the PC world of today that has shielded new players from nerd persecution. With their interwebs, forum boards and gleespaces, today's youth have far too many places to shout "I'm here, I roll dice, get used to it!" From their Magic cards to their Lord of the Rings movie to their MMOs, they have what the outcasts of yesteryear could only dream of: a society that's more accepting of geekdom.
4th edition should be a failure. It should be ridiculed and mocked by the masses, and anyone who plays it should be dragged into the streets by their underwear and swirlied until they hand in their pocket protectors for good. D&D cool? Never!
They look back on their D&D years with shame and regret. Now that a new edition is on the horizon, their crusade begins to destroy the system that scarred them...

I've got no idea by now if there's anyone that you haven't insulted, Takasi, but just in case you haven't, what about people who do not know a language that 4th edition will be printed in?

I suggest you add socialists since a major theme seems to be that WotC is not allowed to profit of the backs of the people that buy their games.
You could also add the illuminati since they can deflect attention away from the real evil of this world by focusing so much hatred at a game company and their questionable PR practices.
