Yeah, he can be hit or miss. I've much preferred Startide Rising, and the first two books of the trilogy that's a sequel to that book. (The last book, not so much)

I liked parts of Postman. Certainly more than the horrible Costner movie.

Nice. I haven't thought of that in years. I loved Startide Rising! ...I did not read any of his other works though.

I think DF's "WOOHOO" is going to be less emphatic when he sees how Gengar is doing.

Is it just me or is it psychologically more difficult to accept when InvisibleCastle rolls seriously bad?

I mean, at the table, you roll and it comes 2 or 3 and everyone laughs. You blame all manner of unrelated variables, but you keep going.

With IC, you enter some data, click the button and you're hosed with no recourse.

It's the same thing with the Shuffler for Magic Online. It's exactly like a real, randomized deck, but people get angrier anyway.

Gengar got a 6 on his stabilize % roll - I'm hoping 50% means a roll from 01-50 :)

Gengar is not a very good fighter (yet) but he is resilient!

Yep. When rolling percentiles, lower is good. It's not obvious on 50/50 rolls, but when you only have a twenty percent chance to do something, it's a lot clearer. Genger definitely stabilizes on a 6.

It's weird, but all games seem to slow down after an initial flury.

Sorry, I can't DM another one at this time. I would love to play a variant Thug (fighter) in an urban adventure though! If someone wants to fire up a CotCT PbP I might be interested. Then again, I heard a rumor that a really good adventure might be starting in a couple months...I'm hoping to get in on it.

It's SO TEMPTING to start running or playing in another PbP, but I still think I should avoid that for the moment. I do have my hands full with lots of things right now, including all my current PbP stuff.

I was planning to run a PbP when CotCT comes out. By the time it's out, I should know if I'll have the free time around my schoolwork.

So stay tuned.

Will do. I started a thread in the "Players Seeking Games" forum...or whatever it's called...and so far Lilith is the only one to express interest in possibly running a CotCT game via PbP. I don't expect anyone to have a definitive answer yet. Nevertheless, I'm starting the conversation now, and expressing my interest as a player, for such a game just so I don't lose out on the mad rush that starts everytime a new game gets announced.

Gengar Whittlewood wrote:
"Mitnal! Basketweaver...I think I own you my life." he says with a slight catch in his voice.
Mitnal winces to hear this. In his tribe, to save someone's life (especially a non-tribe member), to intervene when the spirits call one back to themselves, is presumptuous and means to take responsibility for them forever. Anything Gengar does from this point onward that offends anyone, reflects badly on Mitnal. Anything Gengar does that pleases, demonstrates Mitnal's good judgement. 'No worries', thinks Mitnal, 'Gengar is a good man and I will not regret my decision.'

Ha! Sucks to be you!

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

I hope Mitnal doesn't come across as an idiot. I'm very careful about race and characters. Mitnal sees the world from a perspective that may be very different than his colleagues in some ways but similar in others. The next Shoanti character I play is going to have a high intelligence score though.

I think Mitnal is one of the most interesting and entertaining characters of the whole group. He serves as a great sounding board for both Jessa and Blackwing. And I like the interaction between him and Gengar, too.

The actions he takes doesn't make him seem like an idiot to me, just a guy who often takes the simple approach...accepts a lot of things at face-value...and occasionally has to rely on his angry rage to get him through an encounter when he fails to outsmart the opposition. So, you haven't painted him as an idiot to me. You've actually made him into the most interesting barbarian I've ever played alongside.

My two-cents,
--Neil

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Thanks a lot.

As silly as this may sound, I worry about possibility of making Mitnal out along stereotypical lines. Even though we don't have Shoanti in the 'real world', I think that there are clear real world parallels.

Also, Mitnal gets the illiteracy trait from his class. Instead of spending the two points on literacy, I've decided that he finds writing to be a lazy way to communicate. If he has anything to remember he remembers it. He can keep entire stories in his head word for word. If he has anything important to tell someone who is far away, he goes there and tells them.

I like Mitnal. I love the little touch about the fishcakes. Just the kind of thing that provides that last push over the edge.

I hope you didn't get in any trouble that caused the blockout.

I recommend using a Proxy Server to get past the block. Don't do anything secure over a proxy, obviously, and browsing will speed up if you turn images off, but it'll get around blocks.

Oh, NSpicer, a question for you. I'm statting up a wizard for Lilith's PbP, and I was wondering how Jessa managed to afford a familiar at first level.

Because most GMs don't make it a point to slap a 100gp fee on a 1st Level Wizard for acquiring one. Wizards pretty much have a real steep hill to climb from a balance perspective with most of the other classes anyway. Denying one a familiar at 1st Level doesn't do them any favors. Apparently, Sean must feel the same way as he didn't deny it during character creation. In fact, I've never run into a single DM who holds by that rule.

The 100gp material cost does still come into play if a Sorcerer or Wizard ever had to replace his familiar, though...

Huh. There's a 100gp cost for summoning a familiar? It's not in the SRD that I saw, but I may have been looking in the wrong place.

It's listed under the sorceror entry for obtaining a familiar.

Clearly, most people don't think its that big of a deal. And it's not, really.

NSpicer wrote:

I have, but that was with very hack n' slash type players. A familiar was basically 2nd level loot to them. Heck, they didn't take familiars half the time because they didn't like keeping track of it when fireballs and the like started flying around.

Yeah, I found it. On d20srd.org, it's listed under the description of the class feature, I was looking at the description of familiars themselves.

I hope Jessa's journal entries come across okay. I'm trying to use them as a "Dear Diary" method of showing some of her internal thoughts, particularly after major events in the adventure...and also as a tie-in to her Pathfinder mission. Of course, none of this stuff is comparable to the Eando Kline journals in Pathfinder, by any means... :)

So, I stop at a red light. Like I always do.
I look in the rear view mirror to see that the car behind me is also stopping. Like I always do.

...

He wasn't.

He didn't.

He was accelerating.

He hit me going 70.

Destroyed my 2 year old, unscratched little environmentally friendly car that had a ridiculously low number of kilometers on it (because I often take the environmentally friendlier bus).

Just gone.

But ... my wife was fine and my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter charmed a whole gaggle of firemen that had to pry her door open.

When they got her out they asked her "Are you okay?" and she answered "Sure! I'm okay. Are you okay? How about you?" with a big grin.

What a day.

He was actually ACCELERATING!? Was he drunk? Was he trying to 'push the yellow' and assumed you would to? What the hell? I've seen it where people just don't think about stopping, but he was SPEEDING UP!? I'm boggled.

(I am very glad that you and yours came out of it ok. Your 2 year old sounds adorable. As long as no one was hurt, that's what insurance is for.)

He was coming downhill so he was accelerating with the hill. There was no explaining this guy. Clear day. Lots of room. Sun was not in his eyes. He wasn't drinking. He was only 45. No explanation. Probably a cell phone.

My daughter is a charmer. Charisma like you wouldn't believe.

Yeah, the insurance should cover everything. It was my first new car of my own so I'm a little heart broken.

I'm in Canada by the way.
