Tarren Dei, did you have a particular diety in mind for Father Idnag when you created him in your backstory?
I assume as he did some work on the cathedral that my character would have known him.
None in particular. The abbey is interfaith. The priest is a pacifist.
Mitnal is searching for something but he isn't sure what.

A bad trait he picked up somewhere? Like, from being a raven? Hehe. Remember, the familiar link is two way. I can only imagine what bad habits Jessa may have caught from that bird.
That would explain her ability to Appraise the more valuable stuff by examining it.
Aside from that, maybe a bit of impetuousness (is that a word?). And we're all greedy over something. Just wait until some new piece of magical lore or ancient knowledge comes to light. ;-)

Since the Shoanti don't worship a particular god, per se...but they do worship certain aspects of nature, including totem animals and what-not, maybe Father Idnag would be the local priest of Gozreh? The Sandpoint cathedral includes a shrine to Gozreh as well as Erastil. So Mitnal could have been drawn to converse with him...particularly if the resident priest also has more of a pacifist bent to him.
Just an idea,

Oh, and what happened to that farmer, Sean?
Heh, heh, heh. You'll just have to finish the encounter and find out....
(Actually, he's just hiding inside his house.)

Father Idnag is, in fact, in town, and will make an appearance at some point.

I actually see Sarenrae as a better choice for a pacifist cult, with her emphasis on healing and redemption. There is no opportunity for forgiveness in the grave, etc.
And she is goddess of the sun, so there is nature for you.
If Gozreh had a pacifist branch, I would see it as similar to buddhist nihilism. That is, the universe doesn't love you. You can't change it. Therefore go with the flow and accept your fate.

I'm really excited about reading more about the God's of Golarion (particularly if they are written by Sean K. Reynolds) but Mitnal isn't. Firstly, he can't read. Secondly, he finds the idea of human deities rather odd and somewhat androcentric. He assumes that any human deity is an aspect of the formless spiritworld that borrows forms from all animals and then imbues those animals with some of its energy. Mitnal is not sure what deity the priest followed. Despite this, he has a great deal of respect for clerics as individuals who study the world of spirits.

Heh. Yesterday was crazy busy for me. Never really had a moment to check in over here.
I'm crafting posts right now for both Ruano and the rest of the group.

After the speed of the game during the first few days, it seems like we've hit a sudden stop with this short lull. How's everyone doing out there? Everybody okay?

Oh, come on Neil, haven't you ever been to a restaurant with people you don't know that well before. The conversations awkward and the food takes forever to get there!!
Hehehe
I'm back. I just got handed a new course to teach and it starts tomorrow so I've had my hands full but I really need this distraction to keep me sane.

You guys are awesome. This is shaping up to be a really interesting roleplaying group. Both in-character and out-of-character...

I'm trying to make the druid connection to give us way to incorporate ol' Ruano :)
Plus, goodberries do save room in your pockets for gold...rations are heavy!
I thought that might be what you were leaning toward, but the druid is busy uncovering clues at the moment. We'll get him into town shortly.

Flippin' InvisibleCastle! I don't think I've rolled over 10 this whole game. And that's with a +7.
It's official, Gengar is the worst rogue in all of Varisia.
Eh, I blame it on the wine :)

cowardly thieves
Cowardly thieves?!? I think Gengar is being misunderstood! He didn't do anything wrong. Had things turned out differently that ol' noble had more money than he could give away anyway. Gengar would have just helped him distribute it, that's all. Really. Oh, something shiny...I'm sorry, what was I saying?
| Sean, Minister of KtSP |
Sorry, sorry. Nope. The last several days just got away from me. I'm still here.
Today's a RL game day for me, so I've made a couple of posts -- one for Kinmorn and one for Ruano -- and I'll try and respond to anything else that needs responding, or anything fresh that posts today, before I go to bed tonight.

Mitnal doesn't write. He just remembers stuff. He thinks literacy is a crutch for lonely people with short memories.
Three cheers for Mitnal!
Thanks!

I realize that most games assume that Divine Casters all prepare their spells at sunrise, because it's less likely that something happened in the last 8 hours, and the wizard has to prepare right after waking anyway. Evil casters may choose sunset or midnight, but they're villians so it happens off camera and we don't have to worry about it.
However, I like to sleep in. Halflings do too. Unless you made them a nice breakfast. I figure Ruano likes to prepare his spells at noon.

Noon is about breakfast time for me too, many days. Sounds like my kind of druid.

Wait a second ... You're planning to be a PhD student but you like to get up at noon and then eat breakfast before studying? ... That sounds about right. Good luck with that.

I am a Ph.D. student, but I am also not a morning person. I have to make myself get up before nine so I can go to the gym before going to work at ten. I've tried going to bed at various times, cutting out caffeine, whatever. My natural 'wake up time' seems to be about 9:30-10. My girlfriend, however, is a morning person. She can't understand why I can't think at 7 am. I don't understand why she gets tired at 9:30 pm.
I don't sleep till noon. I brought up noon because, since divine spellcasters have to pick a set time of day to renew their spells, in a world without clocks, they tend to pick one of 4 more-or-less defined times, sunrise, noon, sunset, or midnight. Ruano isn't going to make himself get up at sunrise every day, so he picked noon, which is no less symbolic of life, growth, and nature.
As for your other comment, I learned not to waste my time on breakfast in high school. (Man, those were the days. I could actually function on 5 hours sleep, I could run a 5K in less than 20 minutes, and I weighed 148 pounds. I miss high school.)

Ahh, I misremembered your bio. It says you started in August.
I wasn't being sarcastic with the "that sounds about right" hehehe. I meant it. I really enjoyed my course work time ... I had classes in the evening and got up late. Within a few months I was teaching a few of the master's level courses and so I either studied in the evening or taught in the evening. Now I'm teaching undergrads and they make these guys get up at god-awful hours!!
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It only takes 2 minutes to nuke some oatmeal and blend in some frozen blueberries and yogurt!
