Spoiler:You hear the sound of footsteps. They are so loud that they cannot be the footsteps of Drint.
Slowly a thought dawns on Girther. He looks hard at Drint and whispers to Fjyndel and Quince, “Can either of you cast a spell to see if our friend here is who he appears to be?”

Not even close. However, Girther has his own reasons to be suspicious.

Fjyndel thinks a short while, then answeres: "I might be able to detect if there is a spell on this Kobold, but that may or may not reveal if this is really Drint. You are right, the steps where to loud, but what if the sound somehow was channeled or echoed or something, to make it unable to sneak in this house?
Appart from that, what was the scratching up there? Any Ideas?"

Asking the barmaid, she tells you that “No there is no epidemic in town. People are just exhausted and probably unused to the evening air. But if you are worried you can talk to Laurel at the Roots and Remedies just down the street.”
After talking to the barmaid, you look for the Caravan Master. He appears to be nowhere within the common room of the Sitting Duck.

Spoiler:Despite your loud banging on the door, no one inside the Roots and Remedies seems to notice you. You look through the window and you notice a female figure slumped over the counter.
Run around the back and see if there is a back door, trying it as well.
Run back to the main road and call for help, before smashing a window and trying to get in.
Once inside, rush over to the woman and take a look at her to see what could be wrong.
If she spots no signs of disease, then she gently reaches down and tries to wake herand if she can't then she casts Cure Light Wounds on Laurel. (1d8+1=8)
If she spots signs of Disease then she looks around to find something (such as gloves, heavy cloth or if needs be a staff) that she can use to try and examine her and see what could be wrong with her. She also looks around for something that she can cover her mouth with.

For CoraleeSpoiler:You push at the door of the Roots and Remedies. It budges after some effort. Entering the shop, you notice that it is illuminated by a single flickering lamp. You notice that the slumped woman is breathing shallowly. A knife stuck through her back. Moving to her side, you call on Desna’s blessing and pull out the knife. Your precise timing prevents the woman from suffering further injury.
Coralee's face splits into a huge grin as she finishes rattling off her quick fire questions, barely pausing for breath. She starts to check her over to see whether she needs any more healing.
Let me know if she needs another CLW, or even a Cure Minor Wounds, cheers Rad

"I think Drint is ok," Quince whispers. "I don't sense any magic on him. But there is definitely something magical up there." Quince points a finger at the ceiling.
Drint still looks a little hurt that he was suspected, but he sighs. "Ssssomething magical up there? What could that be?", he whispers.

Drint looks upwards. "What wassss that? I heard something sneeze."
Fjyndel again looks up to the ceiling answering the kobold: "I heard that too. ... I think we should go for the run..."

Spoiler:Despite Desna's intervention, blood is still flowing from the woman's wound but it is enough to allow her to regain consciousness."Please you have to check on my patient in the other room," she says in a weak voice.
Spoiler:Cure Light Wounds on Laurel. (1d8+1=4)
"Oh sure no problem. That should help you out for a bit. Is there anywhere I find a bucket around here? What is your patient's name? Do you feel any better now? Who did this to you? Oh right check on your patient."
Coralee finishes making sure Laurel is comfortable then heads into the other room to check on the patient that Laurel spoke of. She looks around the shop on the way, making sure to keep an eye out for a bucket.

You enter the room indicated by Laurel where her patient is. The room is dark but you can make out the outline of a bed and the figure laying on it. You go inside and the light from the other room is enough to allow you to see that the figure is a male human. An old and tired one at that.
The figure seems to be at peace. A smile on his weathered face. Then you notice that the figure chest is no longer moving. You draw back the bed sheet and find that the entire torso of the man is covered in vicious and ruinous wounds. You stifle a scream.

Coralee steps back with her hand over her mouth aghast at the terrible wounds inflicted on the poor old man. She replaces the sheet, making sure to cover the old man's face. Slowly she walks back into the front room, shaking her had as she goes. She goes back over to Laurel and kneels next to her.
"I'm afraid he has passed into Desna's embrace. That's sensless. Why would anyone want to attack him and you? Was it a robbery? Were they after something?
She shakes her head again and checks Laurel's wound to see how it is going. She cups her hands and calls forth Desna's Bounty (Casts Create Water), making Laurel drink Desna's Pureness.

"I would if I could", sighs Drint, "But it issssn't in my power. I'm jusssst one kobold. Few here would even lissssten to me. But Fjyndel might want to talk with you. I believe he came to thissss town for the same reassson you did. What is your name?"

A bit of rustling is to hear from the ceiling... followed by
"Grmblfx! I'm a bit emm.. stuck here between the ceiling and the roof."
The rustling and now sawing continues and the ceiling is pierced by a small dagger that continues around in a up/downward motion...

Long minutes pass and eventually, the sawing stops and a portion of the ceiling falls harmlessly to the floor. The loud noise makes you wince. You can just imagine the entire household waking up.
Quirk, it's your cue to introduce yourself. Take a few moments to describe yourself for the benefit of those inside the room.

A small head looks thru the hole in the ceiling, it is like an elf, only with bigger ears, the eyes blink two times to adapt to the light in the room. With a deft motion the rest of the body comes into view, as Quirk vaults onto the floor. He is about 2 and half feet tall, has hazelnut tinted hair and dark brown eyes with large pupils. He wears a leather armor, that just is a bit wide for his girth, but leaves the most room at the back of his shoulders. His complete deameanor is youthful and exuberant, but nonetheless graceful, like if he is an elvish child.
Landing in the midst of the others, Quirk grins into the round. "Tadaaaa!" and gives a bow. "Meet mighty Quirk, the liberator of the Darkwood Forest... well em future liberator, em hopefully..." Quirk blinks three times in quick succession to the assembled 'group'.

Laurel weeps upon hearing your news. After a few moment, she manages to compose herself and drink the water that you have offered.
Laurel then waves for you to come closer. She whispers, "The evil ones seek to stop any attempts to discover a cure. Please go to the largest house in town. That would be the Kreed's place. Look for Jurin Kreed. Ask him to help you find Quince Darkivy and his companions. Go. Quickly. Please."
Exhausted, Laurel lapses back into unconsciousness.

Laurel then waves for you to come closer. She whispers, "The evil ones seek to stop any attempts to discover a cure. Please go to the largest house in town. That would be the Kreed's place. Look for Jurin Kreed. Ask him to help you find Quince Darkivy and his companions. Go. Quickly. Please."
Exhausted, Laurel lapses back into unconsciousness.
Spoiler:Hopefully this doesn't double post. I wrote this long section and forgot to do a copy and it appears that my post got eaten by the Post Eatin' Monster™! I'll try to remember exactly what I wrote.
"Evil Ones, that doesn't sound good! Why would they want to stop you finding a cure? Oh wait... Cure! That means you know about the disease and are trying to cure it? That's good!"
"OK, Kreed place, largest house in town, right. Jurin Kreed, right. Quince Darkivy, right."
Coralee finally notices that Laurel has lapsed into unconsciousness and lets her rest. She runs from the building and goes up to the first group of people she sees (avoiding loners for fear they may be the attacker) saying, "Please you have to help. Laurel has been attacked. I have attempted to heal the worst of her wounds, but she is still unconscious. You must go and get the Sheriff immediately. Can you also please tell me the way to the Kreed Residence, Laurel instructed me to go there for help before she passed out?"
After gaining the people's assurance that they will get the Sheriff and obtaining directions, she rushes off in the direction of the Kreed Household. When she arrives, she goes straight up to the front door and knocks loudly (relatively speaking for her small hands). Slightly out of breath, she yells out "Jurin. Jurin Kreed. Come quickly. Laurel has been attacked and she has instructed me to come and ask for your help in finding a Quince Darkivy." She knocks loudly again.Quince, Girther, Fjyndel, Drint, Quirk

Spoiler:You hear a loud knock at the front door and a slightly out of breath, high pitched female voice yell out "Jurin. Jurin Kreed. Come quickly. Laurel has been attacked and she has instructed me to come and ask for your help in finding a Quince Darkivy." You then hear another loud knock on the door.

Quince c o c k s his head to the side, listening, and on the bed, Risk's ears perk up at the same time.
"Yes, Drint, I think we should see what's going on. And maybe find out why the healer would ask for me."
Quince starts gathering up his things and heads out the door. He pauses for a moment. "Uh...nice to meet you, Quirk. I'm sure we'll have lots of questions for you."
To his friends, Quince asks, "Should we take him along?"
