Because I need help. There's so much to do, and I'm the only one that can do it.

Take over earth, contain earthers' parasitic expansion into a clean galaxy, the list goes on and on.

It would be nice to have two or three of me. Or even 20,000.

Perhaps if you look into your origin you could discover that your from the planet Cargg. That's where Triplicate Girl is from.

Of coarse if your a minion you probably don't have an origin story.

However, I suppose you could start a new trend and have one....step up the standard for minion stats. That would be pretty cool!

I suppose you could steal the Miracle Machine from the Legion Headquarters and use that to achieve your dasterdly crimes, but honestly, I doubt you'd get past the security seeings to be that your just a minion.

Taken from Wikepdia:
The Miracle Machine is a fictitious device in the DC Comics universe. The machine first appeared in Adventure Comics #367, April 1968.

It was created by the Controllers at some point no later than the 20th century, and given as a gift to the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th century for their work in defeating a renegade Controller. It has the power to convert thoughts into reality.

I got a Red Cape that I swiped out of this dude's closet.

I got some boxers with pinapples and palm trees on it, and suspenders; I'd go au naturale, but those comics code ogres told me to wear a little something.

I just wanted to take the time to say thank you for everyone who has been assisting me on and off throughout the past many months with either tidbits of Legion lore, sending me game information, asking questions to help promote thinking on my part, and to those who generally just put up with me. Your time, patience, assistance, and understanding are appreciated more than I can express.

A couple of you may have noticed that this thread has taken a recent reduction in postings by me. This is not from lack of interest but actually quite the opposite. As my game continues to take shape I seem to have rounded what I percerive as the first turn. I am very pleased with the material developed thus far and as it continues to write itself, my time spent on messageboards decreases and my time spent on the game increases.

Having been a fan of D&D over the years, my interest in this game wained greatly as a result of two events....

1. WOTC treatment of the game and the discontinuation of 3.5 and onward to 4th edition.

2. I started spending time on messageboards. This has opened up my eyes to an aspect of gaming that I was not previously aware. The politics involved, the emotions that it generates, and the vastness of it all has greatly reduced my attention and interest to D&D. I consider myself a gamer and not necessarily a D&D player.

Much of this discontent has been filled by working on the Legion game and I fully expect it will continue for the next several years to come. So I guess what I am saying is THANK YOU, I'll still be around, but not as often as I am trying to wean myself from messageboards all around. For me, it is back to gaming (with a new game). Here's hoping that discontent will never raise its ugly head once again.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU GOES OUT TO THE FOLLOWING.....VALEGRIM, HEATHANSSON, FREEHOLD DM, SET, AND OF COARSE CHRIS. THANK YOU SO MUCH.....AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, YOU ALL WENT UP A LEVEL TODAY. CHEERS, GOD BLESS!

Woot; Ding; hehe; Love dem levels :)

(and think your pretty awesome too; your dedication to this game and thread has been astounding; the project your working on vast; it has been an honor to contribute if anything was of value; rock on girl!)

Thank you very very much for mentioning me, let alone the level. I'm sorry I haven't been active in this forum very much, in that my reasons mirror yours- I too am a gamer working on his own campaign setting(I am more of a 3.5 zealot than most, I'm not letting 4th ed take my opus away from me). I say don't let the 4th ed/3.5 ed wars get you down- keep playing D&D and other games, but also keep working on your own game. I am very much interested in looking at the gamma, beta and alpha versions of it.

I will go back to reviewing the comics as soon as I can, especially the whole "Legion of Three Worlds" debacle that is coming up. To be honest, the comic is plodding along- things are happening in slow motion, only to speed up with this most recent issue that tied up a lot of semi-loose ends with a few action panels.

Freehold, was the latest comic with Light Lass and the space pirates as terrible as I have been reading about in another forum? My experience so far is that Legion comic reviews are totally blown out of proportion at this particular site. I live so far away from an actual comic shop that I only get to purchase Legion every few months and then I have to hope they are not sold out. Can I get your take on this issue?

While I'm not Freehold, I can say that this last issue nicely wrapped up a few things that were left on the table, which made it feel kind of like a 'housecleaning' issue. Not that I mind that, because some of this stuff (financial / political stuff) had been hanging around past it's freshness date, IMO, and it got resolved pretty handily.

The pirates pretty much acted like pirates do, and they got their butts kicked for it, after making some threats. In the previous issue, we see one of the girl pirates holding a prisoner at knifepoint and kissing him, and that got no comment, but this issue, a boy pirate attempts to rip Ayla's top off (it's bullet-resistant cloth, he fails) and a few posters on that other site went ballistic.

I'm pretty darn unimpressed by almost every comic book, movie, television or novel depiction of rape, or even the threat of rape, since it's all-too-often cheap and or done for shock value or just to establish a villain's credibility as a 'really bad man' (or, worse, serves as the super-origin for the woman, who, like Red Sonja, somehow gets super-powers or just a sense of butt-kicking resolve from the attack, suggesting that the only way a woman could be Conan is if some dude turns her into a hero by attacking her) but this didn't seem a tenth as offensive as it was made out to be by the two posters on that other board that took it much more seriously.

It ended on a nice bit of character growth from Invisible Kid, who's been getting short shrift from his teammates of late, and, IMO, that brings the tone back to one of the strongest points of the Legion of Super-Heroes, that they *all* are heroes, even if, like Shadow Lass or Invisible Kid or Triplicate Girl or Karate Kid, they can't move planets or throw solar-intensity blasts.

I didn't love, love, love the issue, but I appreciated that it wrapped some stuff up and got it out of the way, to prepare us for the show coming up involving the Life Eradicators and, if the hints prove true, their source. I'm definitely looking forward to the next issue, and hope to see some decent action and a hint of some movement towards the resolution of this Life Eradicator thing, which has almost been a backdrop / framing device to the characterization (which, IMO, Shooter has knocked out of the park compared to Waid. The fact that people are so enthusiastically arguing about whether or not his characterizations are right or wrong is a huge step up from the beginning of the threeboot, when the argument was more 'does Star Boy/Saturn Girl/Lightning Lad/Colossal Boy/etc. even *have* a personality?').

The art was not up to previous efforts, IMO. I can't recall specifically, but I think it was a fill-in artist, and came across as a bit cartoony, which is a little bit jarring when it's dealing with issues as mature as that.

well, sadly I think this thread is gonna dry up and go the way of most tumbleweeds; sigh

Anyone looking at Legion of Three Worlds yet?

Seeing all of the Legion(s) assembled on various pages, it really stood out how many unique characters the first two teams have, compared to the current 'threeboot.'

The 'classic' team had Tellus, Polar Boy, Tyroc, Matter-Eater Lad, Quislet, Blok, Dawnstar, White Witch, etc. and added Night Girl and Chameleon Girl by the Action run.

The 'reboot' team had Kid Quantum(s), Kinetix, Gear, XS, Thunder, Monstress, Shikari, Andromeda, Gates, etc.

The 'threeboot' team has added Dream Boy, so far, who has barely been seen since his introduction.

Shooter is adding four new Legionnaires in a few issues; Gazelle, Night Girl, Sizzle and Turtle, so perhaps there will be some more unique characters to this 'threeboot' as well. (Huh, all end with an 'L' sound. Sounds like those old Superman supporting characters who all had 'LL' names like Lex Luthor, Lori Lemaris, Lois Lane, Lana Lang, etc. Shooter's pretty fond of the old-school shout-outs, I wonder if this is another one?)

So far all three 'boots' have had;
Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, Brainiac 5, Shrinking Violet, Colossal Boy, Phantom Girl, Ultra Boy, Light(ning) Lass, Projectra / Sensor (who may or may not be a snake), Shadow Lass, Mon-El, Invisible Kid (Lyle), Sun Boy, Element Lad, Triplicate Girl, Chameleon (Boy), Timber Wolf, Star Boy, Dream Girl and Karate Kid.

These twenty one seem to be the 'iconics' who appear in each 'boot.'

While the threeboot has had versions of Matter-Eater Lad, Wildfire, Polar Boy, White Witch and, soon, Night Girl, so far they've done nothing with the reboot characters, which is a pity as I'd love to see some Shikari or Kid Quantum II.

Set Said:

I'll be going down to buy some comics this weekend, so hopefully I should find a copy then. I understand there are multiple covers. Are the pictures different because I was getting the impression that it was little cosmetic changes like a stripe or something, I didn't really follow what the cover differences were.

So are you hoping for one Legion when it is all done with Set or are you more intrested in keeping the different versions? I don't have an attachment to the versions beyond the original one so I hope that somehow we walk away with just that. I don't want them to erase the other variations or stick with some clone idea, or similiar explnations of how these other Legion groups existed. I can deal with the idea of multiple earths, parallel universes, etc. To me, that isn't hard to grasp. In the end though, I would like to see them reduce it down to the original (unaged) characters. I think that for good or bad, everything that has been written should remain canon, including the super-pets (as silly as an idea as they were).

My bigger concern though is that they will age the characters. I sure hope not. I really liked the idea that they were suppose to be teens or at best early adults (18-21).

I think once the authors get it in their head to age the characters it tends to mess things up. They tend to start getting married, having kids (the kids need to grow), Legionnaires quite to raise their families, etc. etc. etc. Once this ball starts rolling the authors can't effectively stop themselves with it because they want to make things to believable. I prefer the ageless concept overall.

How do you feel about finding a way to get Superboy and Supergirl back in? As far as I know the Superboy name is still in litigation so it can't be used.

I'm really not sure. I just got the one that was shoved in my folder (Lightning Lad cover). I hear that there is a group shot cover, and I would probably have rather had that one, but c'est la vie.

EileenProphetofIstus wrote:

I'd keep 'em all. Even the ones I don't care for personally are *someone's* favorites, and I wouldn't want to take away their toys, just as I wouldn't want them to take away mine. There are supposed to be 52 universe, at minimum, not to mention Hypertime. If an Elseworlds like Batman 'Red Rain' can have it's own universe, surely teams of thirty or so heroes that had multi-year series of their own rate a corner of the multiverse to call their own!

EileenProphetofIstus wrote:

Unfortunately, this 'Action Legion' has been determined to be the 'Classic Legion,' by the powers-that-be, and they look pretty old (while acting, in Lightning Lad's case, less mature than I got used to back in the day). Depressing, but what can ya do?

There's some magical time for me, right around Baxter issue 38, when Magnetic Kid, Sensor, Tellus, Quislet and Polar Boy joined, which is my happy place where I wish they could pick up again. The 'Action Legion' appears to be at least five years older than this, and Imra, Rokk and Garth could easily pass for late 20's or early 30's, with Perez's art. (Or even late 30's, early 40's, with Frank's art.)

And yet, no mention of the kids. Garth and Imra have at least one son, and perhaps two, depending on what's canon. I'm all confused, and, with the Time Trapper involved, I'm not entirely sure what's real and what's going to turn out to be some sort of temporal manipulation. (There are some seriously odd bits, relating to Superboy Prime, which suggest that stuff he's being told and shown isn't true, but deceptions designed to point him in a particular direction.)

EileenProphetofIstus wrote:

They've used the Superboy name once or twice in the book, and the rumor is they are currently allowed to use it. Whether or not this will last, I have no idea. Even as a kid, I always liked the rest of the team more than the Super-folk, but the connection between the team and Superboy is too important to just retcon away, as they attempted to do after the original Crisis.

My favorite Super-person so far has been Conner Kent (whom I prefered as a Young Justice / Teen Titan member, not so much as a Legionnaire), and he's still dead at the moment.

On the one hand, I'd rather have a Legion with a Superperson than no Legion at all, but I think that's a false choice and that the Legion is just as able to thrive without Superwhomever as the Teen Titans and Young Justice were able to thrive without Batman showing up to remind Robin that he was a sidekick every issue.

I hope to pick up Legion of Three Worlds tomorrow along with a few other comics. I will throw in my two coppers on EVERYTHING around this time manana.

Ok, Legion of 3 Worlds, Issue #1 (out of 5).

Zee cover....not impressive. I got the red border cover, it consists of a thick red band on the left which say's "Final" the middle band has a picture of Superboy Prime, and the right band says "Crisis". I understand there are more than one cover.

Zee Paper.....glossy, very nice

Spoiler:

Opening Scene:
Time Trapper spouting off to himself....he appears on a asteroid with his base in the background. Lots of cockroaches are at his feet and crawling all over him. He states that the Legionnaires are cockroaches and that he shall do away with them, through a boy....He then thrusts his arm forward and hurls Superboy Prime into the 31st century.

Next Scene:
Superboy Prime arrives in Smallville, the year is 3008. An old farm couple is having supper and listening to the news...a news cast is talking about how the earth has become xenophobic and that Earth Gov are discusssing how to deal with the problem of a world with an over 15% population consists of extra terrestials.

Superboy Prime arrive outside the farm and crashes. The farmer grabs a blaster (his way of dealing with extra terrestrials) and checks out the disturbance. He open fires on Superboy Prime (who is wearing nothing but a torn loin cloth and a red "S" tattooed into his chest. He disintigrates the farmer and his wife with his heat vision.

Next Scene:
Superboy Prime then realizes he is in Smallville and in the future. He takes a stroll downtown and sees the Superman Museum so he decides to check it out.

Superboy Prime activates a hologram of Jimmy Olsen who then proceeds to give him a tour of the museum. Superboy Prime is less than impressed and seems to think that the way history happened is not the same way that the Jimmy Olson hologram seems to describe. The Jimmy Olsen hologram shows Superboy Prime a hologram of the Legion, but he doesn't seem to intrested in them. Superboy Prime then notices a statue of himself tucked off into the corner. He is upset that it is not displayed openly like the other villains of Superman are. The fact that he isn't getting the proper recognition he feels he deserves doesn't sit well with him and he decides to go on a rampage and destroy the place. This attracts the attention of the Science Police. When they try to arrest him he freezes them with his breath. The villain then takes a vow to destroy everything about Superman, the Legion, and the United Planets. The Jimmy Olson hologram then introduces the Legion of Super Villains to Superboy Prime.

Next Scene:
The UP is holding a conference with Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, and Saturn Girl present and the focus of attention. These are the characters from the recent Action Comics version. The Earth Gov is telling them that the Legion is no longer needed, that the idea of their values is silly and childish. Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl start to be diplomatic and try and salvage the situation while Lightning Lad is getting seething mad from the Earth Gov insults he directs at the Legion.

Next Scene:
We now switch scenes and have Phantom Girl (Yay)! Lightning Lass, and Shadow Lass in the Phantom Zone. They are trying to rescue Mon-El. They escape the Phantom Zone with him and Lightning Lass closes the entrance with her power. They reappear in the Legion HG with Brainiac 5 manning the Phantom Zone projector. He informs Lightning Lass that her display of power was uneccessary in shutting the Phantom Zone down because all he had to do was turn the switch off. Brainiac 5 then gives a dying Mon-El his lead antidote because his presence in the Phantom Zone returned his physiology back to the old days.

Next Scene:
In an apartment of Metropolis, we see Sun Boy sitting in the dark brooding. Polar Boy approaches and they become involved in a discussion. Sun Boy wants to quit and Polar Boy is trying to talk him out of it. Apparently his powers are gone and he is burnt out.

Next Scene:
We return to the Earth Gov conferance. Karate Kid (the one who replaced Val Armorr) is speaking out AGAINST the Legion. He references that Val has returned. He goes on about how the racial issues within the Legion are problematic, thus he calls the Legion hyprocritcal since they are asking for racial unity. This discusssion goes bad and Lightning Lad loses his cool. Just as he is about to blow, R.J. Brande appears and commands the attention of EVERYONE. He says hello to the Legionnaires, then turns his attention to the Earth Gov council and begins a speech about why the universe needs the Legion more than ever.

Next Scene:
Returning to Superboy Prime and the Jimmy Olson hologram, Jimmy tell him that Takron Galtos (the prison planet) holds the Legion of Super Villains. Superboy Prime streaks off to the prison planet, starts destroying the prison planet, blows away the security there, and frees the Legion of Super Villains. After a discussion with Ligtning Lord, Saturn Queen, and Cosmic King, Superboy Prime reunites the villains.

Next Scene:
Returning to the Earth Gov conference, negotiations continue and the council is listening very well to R.J. Brande. Suddenly a figure in the audience pulls back a visor he's wearing, narrowly eyes Brande, pulls out a gun, and open fires. Cosmic Boy tries to stop the bullets but they are non-metal. Blood everywhere! R.J. BRANDE HAS BEEN SHOT!

Sautrn Girl grabs Brande who is lying in a pool of blood on the floor. Lightning Lad graps the shooter and reveals him as Leland McCauley. Dr. Gyml assist Brande. Everyone is in shock and horror. R.J. Brande starts to think thoughts and Saturn Girl repeats them....

"Don't quit, Don't you dare ever quit...Long....Live...the...."

and he dies!

The Science Police rush in and take over the situation. Cosmic Boy has had enough and hurls them backwards with his power. Mccauley suddenly starts aging real rapidly and decomposes as Lightning Lad holds him.

They then show a panel off to the side of Time Trapper, indicating that he is the one really responsible for the assassination.

Next Scene: Various Legionnaires are shown being on missions and being contacted by Cosmic Boy. Though the author doesn't really use much dialogue, it appears as if Cosmic Boy is informing the others what happened. Cosmic Boy is then interrupted by the other Legionnaires Brainiac 5, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lass, Mon-El, Shadow Lass, Phantom Girl, and Polar Boy and they attend a memorial for Brande. Afterwards they have a discussion about whether or not the Legion should continue. They decide it should and that they need help. Phantom Girl tells Cosmic Boy to call him....

Next Scene:
Earth, 21st century. Superman is flying over the city when he gets a distress call from his Legion flight ring. He activates the time travel function and it hurls him to the 31st century. After arriving, the Legion shows him live pictures of Takron Galtros. The planet is on fire, burning in the shape of an "S". He immediently recognizes the work of Superboy Prime. Brainiac decides to call in for more reinforcements and activates a hand-held device which shows two more Legions, the re-boot Legion with Gates, Monstress, Ferro, etc. and the current Legion being done by Shooter. I think the device shows a hologram of them and didn't actually make then arrive (yet).

Superman then announces that to defeat Superboy Prime, they must do something extreme.....Lightning Lad asks if he means killing Superboy Prime....Polar Boy gets angry saying that Superman would never suggest that...Superman responds by saying "No". Pahntom Girl asks what he means by extreme....and Superman says:

"We need to reach out to him. We need to find the boy inside that helped me save the universe during the first crisis. We need to redeem Superboy Prime".

End of comic!
