I'm insulted. My setting is a sort of renascence, but there has been no war in ages, so they have typical medieval weapons. There are a lot of cities, and they all are large and polluted. Think San Fransisco, but with lower technology.

I would like to buy Shym a fancy cain...I figure 5gp is a pretty expensive walking stick and stat-wise, a small club would match (although I don't plan it being a weapon, you never know what some DMs will do). Other than that, I'm good to go.

How common are gnomes and elves? Are there any laws in the city about the use of magic, especially enchantmens?
This is a city, not a village. They aren't that superstitious, they are used to magic. People may laugh a bit at you silly elves and gnomes, though.

I have been trying to take a few reasonable actions near to character which obviously don’t seems to be the correct ones for the way you want the story to go.
Any way I am going to wait just a little more to see if anyone is interested in take charge before I start making a concentrated effort to get things moving and get everybody in to the story.
