Zoomackulas: can you pull this off with Rel or should we scrounge up another player?
I could do either, it would be up to the group!!! My first thought would be to run Rel for awhile because I hope Cry Havoc comes back and I don't want him stuck with an extra person he had not planned on in the game. On that I say we set a date and if he still is a no call no show then we look for another to take over the rogue character!!
What usually happens when the DM goes missing? I'm also wondering what would happen when he returned. Would he simply take over from there, or what?
If he comes back and still wants to run this game then he would be the DM!!! It would be his call on how and where he'd pick things back up. I think he was doing a great job and I was having a lot of fun. I also was picking up some ideas on how to run a pbp game here from him and I noticed others have as well with running their other games!!!
Ok, yes or no, do you gentlemen want me to take over for a bit? I have not read the adventure yet so I would need a day to get ready! We would keep running things in Cry Havoc style, same system he set up and all because I think it works really well!!!!

Yeah I whole-sale rip him off big time in my PbP...

Well, my friends, as it turns out I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. It only feels as though I had.
First things first, please allow me to extend my most sincere apologies for disappearing for these 3 weeks without a word of explanation. You all are a fine group of very committed players, and you deserve a DM who can match that commitment. For failing in this, I am sorry indeed. But, allow me a word or two of explanation, if not justification...and then we will see what the future holds for this game.
I don't want to get into a great many details, but I will tell you all that I suffer from major depressive disorder. It's an ugly thing, but it is usually pretty well controlled. Usually, but not always. And when the wheels do fall off, they fall off pretty thoroughly. And that's what happened to me mid-November. To someone who doesn't know much about this disorder, it may seem hard to understand why I can't just log on and let you all know that I need to take a break until I feel better. But, it just doesn't work that way. When it's bad, even the basics of life...eating, sleeping, family life...become challenging. Less crucial things, like gaming, become darn near impossible. Anyway, that's enough of that...I'm not looking for sympathy, I just wanted you to understand what happened.
On to happier things...I feel myself again now. I generally do after a time (how long varies). I have missed this game, and I'd like it to continue. I would submit to you that I would love to continue as DM, although I do see that Zoomackulas has been preparing to take up the reins in my absence. I certainly don't want your efforts to be for naught, Zoom, so if you wish to take up the mantle of DM for this fine group, I'll willingly step aside.
I leave the decision to the five of you whether you wish for me to continue as DM of this group. I must however, present this caveat...I cannot guarantee that this will not happen again. If my absence (and the possibility that it may happen again) has not put you off too badly, I am ready to continue immediately. If anyone wishes to bow out of the game, I will completely understand. I leave it in the players' hands.
Let's talk it over, gentlemen.

Cry Havoc,
I am glad that you have returned. You really do run an excellent game. And just to let you know, you are not alone with dealing with MH issues. All I can say is that this Paizo Community is very understanding and helpful. Most are willing to listen and help when times are tough. So don't be afraid to talk. I find that talking always helps. Take care of yourself and remember that we are a community, we are friends, and we are glad to lend an ear.
If ever you need to talk, my e-mail is bunnies@ptd.net. (My wife and I have pet rabbits. I feel the need to explain because so many times people thought that the email account was associated with a porno site. :) )
Well take care and get back to gaming. I believe you were truely missed.
Cheers
Utak

CH, glad that you're back. It seems that now more than ever you need friends to talk to. By the way, while you were gone I've started two PBPs of my own. One of them is an ROTRL game, hope this doesn't put a wrinkle on your plans for the game. The other is one called Rise of the Kobold King, with a kobold as a player. Imagine that.
As to what to do with the game... I'll go along with what the rest of the group decides.
Again, glad you're back.
If you want to talk about anything...you can e-mail me at:

Cry Havoc!, I think I can speak for the group...we would prefer you to direct this campaign if your heart is still in it.
Read through the other posts and you'll see no one at any time wished anything but the best for you.
At the same time, we all agreed there was a certain synergy already forming in the party. We were anxious to play and Zoomackulas offered to help fill the gap (thanks Zoomackulas!).
On a more personal note, I admit I cannot relate to what you are going through, but my wife suffered through something painfully similar. I hope you can take heart in that a group of strangers scattered about the globe cares about ya...

I wish to express my concurrence with the sincere words of Mr. Justice DitheringFool. I don't know if this is how they write concurring opinions in the US Supreme Court. But what the hey?! Right?!

Welcome back Cry Havoc!.
My wish is for you to continue as DM; although I appreciate very much Zoomackulus' offer and hard work.
As far as the depression goes...Well, my wife is a MH Professional at one of the best community based mental clinics in the south. I understand. My prayers are with you.

Rel Pais |

Welcome back Mr. DM! I too am glad your back and my prayers are with you also!
I stated earlier while you were gone that when you came back you are the DM!! It will be a bit more challeging now that I know a few things but I'll make it work. I did not read too far on purpose just in case you came back, only the next section from where we left off. I also have been prepping another adventure to run on this site so now I can refocus on that and have fun playing Rel here again, so no worries!
Its been fun finally being able to read Pathfinder and can't wait to dive back in as a player, this adventure path is great! This group is really cool and after the RotRL is over I think we should keep things going with another and even take turns DMing or what not, whatever the group decides of course. The next adventure path sounds even better than this one and this one rocks!!!
Thank you to all for you kind words!
Your resident rogue
Rel

Guys, your responses are everything I'd hoped for and more! Thank you so much!
Indeed, I have read through all of the OOC posts from my absence, and I certainly could tell that you all have enjoyed this game, and were hoping for my return. That means a great deal to me. Still, I wanted to hear it from each of you once you knew what had happened. Although Mr. Jason has not posted yet, my sincere hope is that he also wants to continue.
To Radavel and Zoomackulas, I'm not worried too much about the fact that you have read various portions of the adventure with a DMs eye. The fact is, there are several of you who are Pathfinder subscribers, and so it will be difficult to keep you in the dark regarding the campaign's plot anyway. The key is this...you have to be able to keep player knowledge separate from character knowledge, and always keep the best interest of the game and the group in mind. From what I've seen from all of you players, I have little doubt that we will be fine. Short version, I'm not worried about it.
It kind of makes me proud to think that maybe I had some small role in inspiring some new PbP DMs! :) My goal has only ever been to DM the kind of game that I would enjoy as a player. I'm pleased that this has translated into a fun experience for all of you.
Anyway, I'm going to proceed with the assumption that Mr. Jason still wants to play. A new IC post will be up later today. :D

Cry Havoc! |

Check the IC thread for a new post, guys! :)
I glossed over some of your (excellent) role-playing, just to preserve the intensity of the scene, and convey the feeling that Sandpoint is still under attack. After things settle down, there will be opportunity to role-play, investigate the goblins, etc.
Game on!

Mr. Jason |

Although Mr. Jason has not posted yet, my sincere hope is that he also wants to continue.
Wak! Last to post again... grr.
Welcome back, CH! We've missed you!
And, good luck health-wise. My dad has a similar condition, and I know it can be rough for everyone involved. We're thinking of you.
And, yes! I would be thrilled to keep up the PbP'ing with you at the helm!
And now, to the IC Thread!

Mr. Jason |

Well, it's pretty nasty (as in unpleasant) looking, if that's an indication. :)
For the heads up, I'm going to be going skiing between this Wednesday (two days from now) to Sunday (six days from now). I don't know if I'll have internet access, so don't expect me to post.
If you need my actions for the next round, I'm going to cast Animate Rope on the whip, then move forward a ways (keeping away from our front).

Guys (including ManPig!), there is an unusual PbP trying to start up over here - it's a couple players looking for a DM to run D0-D1. If you're interested in playing or DMing chime in - who knows...

ManPig |

I think now would be a good time for me to state my preference for the game when Cry Havoc! returns. We are all together and playing together because Cry Havoc! created this game. My opinion is that the game is still his. If he can pick up as DM at a later date then that would be fine with me. He is also one heck of a DM.
