I was thrown clear on impact (I was hit from behind), and only suffered a cracked rib, a broken left hand, and a broken leg (I landed on the car in front of me). Merry Frigging Christmas. I was released on Christmas Eve-Eve (the day before Christmas Eve), so I got to see the family and get sympathy there - so that was nice.

Thanks so much. It's good to be back. I've missed you guys!

PsiFox:

Spoiler:

As you may have surmised from the last set of posts, Ameiko - the proprieter of the Rusty Dragon - has gone missing. One option I've thought of for Naelah's return is that, after leaving the ill Ehlissa in her room, she headed towards the Rusty Dragon to inform Corran of Ehlissa's condition. Upon her arrival, she (or Veren) witnessed Ameiko being hauled bodily out of her window by a pair of men. Attempting to follow, she was ambushed and knocked cold in the ensuing fight. She was taken prisoner and now has regained some semblence of consciousness, finding herself bound and gagged alongside Ameiko in a dark room. Veren is not there. Any moment (one hopes) the PCs will kick in the door and free her. By my estimate, the PCs should start looking for Ameiko by this coming Tuesday and should track her kidnappers and get into a big scrum by the end of the week. Veren can be nearby and participate with them in the fight. After the fight, they can free Naelah. The long period of unconsciousness could serve as a spiritual journey should you opt to retrain the Heal feat.

Alternately, I can see one kidnapper attempting to leave with Naelah as the PCs arrive and ditching her to get away himself. That gets you back earlier (before the fight as opposed to right after) but I'm worried that if they take off after that guy, they'll forget about Ameiko...

Splitting the difference, I could have Naelah in the room where the fight occurs instead of in a later room. That gets you back earlier IF the party can spare the time to untie and revive you in the middle of the scrum...

Let me know what you think. I'm very open to ideas on this, but as a story point, I need the PCs to "discover" that Ameiko's been kidnapped and not have it told to them (otherwise, Slidell is going to ask every NPC from here to Skinsaw about KGW), so I'd perfer something that leaves you incapable of telling them until after they figure it out.

JSL:

Spoiler:
I think it will be easier to have Naelah returned after the fight, even if she's in the room where the fight takes place. Perhaps a physical clue is left behind from her kidnapping, like part of a braid, with a few strands of her hair (which is a big clue to her companions that something is amiss). After all, tribal braids and white hair? Who else in Sandpoint is going to have those two together?

Perhaps Veren wasn't captured, and he helps them to find his mistress? He's been able to forge a bond with Naelah's companions, I'm sure one of them will pay attention to him...

@JSL~

Spoiler:

Hey, I've been thinking about Sli's background, and why he's so nervous around women. I don't know if you can work this into your plot or not, (At least not for a while I imagine) but here's what I'm working with,...

Slidell has a GEAS cast on him that he is not aware of. This Geas is to prevent him from getting too comfortable, IE-'close' to any female. (This does not kick in any time he speaks to a girl, only when he starts feeling emotionally attached, or attracted to one.)
There is a sinister reason for this. 'They' (either his mentor, or one of his mentors acquaintances,) cast it on him to keep him 'pure'. They may even have told him it was a minor enchantment to help him focus on his studies when he was having troubles.
FOr some sinister reason, they need him 'untouched'. They can also have put another command in there that compels him to return once he has reached a certain level of power. I'm thinking that they need an untouched mage of a certain power to either cast a difficult spell, or as a component for one. (!)

I have many game reasons for this, but the biggest are 'RL" reasons. I'm no prude, or homophobe, (I have 3 degrees in theatre!) but 'flirting', (even purely in character and in game,) With a character I know is played by a guy, kinda takes some of the fun out of it for me. (I admit, slidell's first couple of posts were written when I thought that Psi was a girl!) Also, being happily (re)married, I'm also not comfortable potentially flirting with another man's wife! (Again, even in character and in game.)

THIS way I can still have all the fun and interesting interactions that everyone has come to know, (and hopefully enjoy) from Sli, and I can avoid crossing any invisible lines and alienating any of my new PbP friends!

So, what do YOU think?!? Or am I overreacting and trying to solve potential problems where none exists? (Also something I have done in RL)

Let me know what you think!
Thanks! :D

@Rags:

Spoiler:

I think your ideas are fine and go well with the idea that Sli may hail from Cheliax proper instead of being the descendant of immigrants. Don't feel you have to figure everything out now - future supplements may be inspirational in this regard.

@JSL~

Spoiler:

Thanks. I DO have a bit of a tendency to overthink things sometimes. (And not enough at others!)
It does open up interesting roleplay opportunities if an NPC (or a character) decides to flirt with Sli. A Geas would give "I have a headache" a whole new meaning!

Call me slow, (The truth doesn't hurt TOO much,) But I don't remember seeing a post from Corran in a while, is he back from 'holiday break' yet?

Its always encouraging when the IC thread has more posts than the OOC thread.

EDIT: I've just noticed that some of our posts seem to have vanished! Were they deleted?

Woo hoo!!! I agree. Man, is it good to have you back! Oh, and Happy Australia Day (a day late--or two days for you!).

Wow. Magic!
It's the disappearing/reappearing Thread trick!

Can I try?!? :P

If it wasn't so frustrating, it would be pretty funny.

Oh and "Woo-hoo LSU, BCS Champions" (Not that I care, I don't normally watch football, but the wife is a Louisiana native, and she was happy they won. And when SHE's happy, I'M happy. So,... Woo-Hoo!)

Talion09 has been 'off the grid' since about Jan. 2nd or 3rd.

Tal, you still out there? We need Corran to do some tracking for us. Mysterious-bloody-paw-print-tracking. Right up your alley. Or, in the alley in this case.

I have been in a meeting today and need to finish up an assignment at work before I can go home. Accordingly, I will post later tonight.

Posting during my lunch break, most likely.

Talion's last post was on January 2nd.
His last PbP post was on December 30th. He seems to have dropped DMing of his PbP too. I'll post there and see if he shows up.

sorry guys, Slidell may have messed up. (So what ELSE is new?!?)

In my defense though, I thought that getting the guard would be a GOOD idea! :)

And if I may meta-game for just a moment, I thought that Bethana would be happy to see the guard!? She was certainly looking for help when we showed up. I'm guessing that when she saw us she was relieved and thought we would handle it? (/confusion OFF)

Again, sorry. But subtlety is NOT Sli's strong suit. :P

Also, I'm going to play it as written, but just so you know, my first reaction when the guard turned away to go get Bethana would have been to high-tail it down the hall, cloak flapping, to see WHAT in the !@#$ Vesh and Malcolm were doing! 8D

Ah well, a few tense moments to convince this lunkhead that we're trying to help, Then Slidell can sink his teeth into a mystery!

NICE save Malcolm!
I hope my distracting the guy helps. If not, I'm sure that Vesh can help you out.

:)

That pretty much sums it up. She hoped to keep things quiet. If you had handled it, she could possibly have the situation resolved with minimal distraction. Now if the guard continues to get suspicious the place will be crawing with guards and Ameiko's disappearance will be all over the town, which Bethana believes will reflect poorly both on the Rusty Dragon and on her employer personally.

That was not clear from your post. I read it that you were going towards the kitchen.

All: This encounter has been roleplayed very well by everyone involved. Please keep in mind that, just like combat, not everything will go your way in an RP encounter. That's how it is in a tough encounter. Just because the guards are probably 1st level Warriors with mostly average abilities doesn't mean they're going to roll over for a skinny guy in a cape and hat. :)

JSL wrote:

AH! That explains it. You were right, I WAS heading for the kitchen. And trying to get him to follow me. I MEANT to say that when the guard had STOPPED me and told me to stay put, when HE went to the kitchen, THEN I would have high-tailed it towards Vesh & Malcolm!

Also, Thank you for explaining why Bethana gave me the dirty look. 'NOW I see the light!' :P
Aw well, chalk up another one for the 'NOT Slidell's Biggest Fan' Club! :D

Well, why not fer pete's sake! (I'D roll over for him, but that's me, in RL I'm a bit of a gulli-bull)

:P

EDIT- Actually, this encounter is giving me the willies, and I just figured out why!

It's Deja-Vu of this time in RL when I got pulled over in Texas, (Driving back from seeing my kids who were with X-wife, I was trying not to fall asleep at the wheel, and I WAS speeding. LOOOOONG drive From California back to Louisiana.) And no matter what I said, OR how I said it, the officer insisted on taking it the wrong way!
(officer- no uniform. Sheriff star pinned to a white button up shirt, with blue jeans, cowboy boots, a 5 gallon stetson, and mirrored sunglasses.)
THAT was a rough day. I was VERY close to going to jail for no other reason than this guy wanted to be an @$$. If THAT had been a D&D encounter. I probably would have just spell-blasted him. No matter my characters' alignment. It was THAT bad! :P

Really? Slidell would risk pissing him off further? In fact, I'm a little surprised that Slidell hasn't backed down, but has become more sarcastic with him. I think Malcolm's bailed you out a little now, at least partially.

He may be just a first level warrior, but one-on-one in close quarters he would be a handful. Consider that you don't have mage armor cast and really can't waste the action or risk the AoO to cast it - or anything else for that matter. He can draw as a free action and has a pretty good chance to put you in the infirmary. And you have alot more to lose by way of reputation than he does.

Slidell wrote:

Exactly. Arguing with the law is pointless. He has absolutely nothing to gain by letting you have your way and you have everything to lose by not letting him at least feel like he's having his way.

Though now Vesh has pointed out Corran to him ensuring that you'll all be in this together, whatever this is.

But you have one important clue, so if you can end the encounter as freemen and not in the brig it will be a success.

@JSL~
All good points. And unfortunately, I agree with them all. (I'm probably pushing the 'crazy mage' bit farther here than I should have. As soon as I get my thoughts together, and sli realizes it, I'll make him very cooperating. He'll still be annoyiong, but he'll be VERY accomadating about it!)

But also remember, Slidell's not TRYING to tick him off at all, or further. (That's why I made the earlier OOC about deleting the 'Give a guard a clue' comment if Sli thought it WOULD push him over.) He's just so used to talking faster than people can usually listen, that to run up against someone who wont listen to be bamboozled is something he's never thought of!

HM. One last thought. It IS fun to be able to play a game like this and ay least FLIRT with something like 'ticking off a policeman'. I've already related that i'm NOT crazy enough to do it in RL! Tho I've also grown fond of this character, and really don't want him sitting in the hoosegow,... or worse! :P

@JSL~
In regards to your earlier comments, I think your right.
I was trying to hard, as opposed to my earlier posts, which had a clear goal in mind. (Character-wise).
I going to blame it on being cranky at work, and taking it out on the keyboard! (Which serves me right, since I SHOULD have been working!)

:)

Ah well, back to the OLD drawing board!

No problem. Bad days and stress happen. I'm currently sitting on two massive projects that need to be done on the 23rd so I'm kind of edgy, too. Also, yesterday was kind of a wasted day going to and from a meeting in SF and I encountered a jerk on the train who I would have loved to hand over to the obstinate Corporal here...

Ah yes,
I've said it before, and I'll say it again,...

Hope everyone has a good weekend! My posting will be spotty this weekend, but I'll see you next week.

Not sure what to do about Corran. He knows some things from way back in the early posts that might be relevant. But he has never been one to volunteer information, so it feels out of character to have him launch into a long dialogue. But I think he would answer direct questions to the best of his ability.

I hope we hear from Talion soon, we need Corran both for his muscle and because I've invested somewhat in his background as a local.

I think some others might have clues, too, though.

Don't forget the early gather info checks, checks made at the festival, and Slidell's research at the Town Hall. All is relevant and now while you are stewing in your juices might be a time to revisit the older posts and see what new light has been shed on past developments.

I have not - and probably will not - given one character enough puzzle pieces to figure this out on their own. ;)

I would mourn the loss of Corran, but mainly because I would miss Talion. He may not be as chatty as some of us,... (OK, as me!) but he seemed to have invested a lot of background into his character, and seemed like a nice guy. I hope he is alright.
It may be that he is still 'out' from the holiday season, and may return soon.
The college I work at, for example, doesn't start classes again until the 22nd!

Time ot go back and re-read some old spoilers! hehe :P

(I figured out the picture clue, waiting to reveal Slidell's 'superior' detective skills at an appropriate moment!) :P

AND
"If THATS a coincidence, I'll,... I'll,... I'll eat Veran!" He finishes in a flustered stutter.

I have yet to meet an individual who doesn't like to be right. And I have yet to meet anyone who likes to eat crow! (And not just because Malcolm says it's greasy.) :)

Allow me to clarify,

Of course He LOVES being right! (As you said, who doesn't?) However, he was really hoping that he was wrong in this case, and that there wasn't a traitor IN the town. (Which he has just convinced himself there assuredly is.) And now he has to FIND the person!

Please remember this, as I'm sure there will be a reason for him to shout "I love being right" sooner or later. ;)

Mal and Jayne are characters from the show Firefly. Firefly was easily the best TV show to ever be aired, IMO. It was cancelled by Fox after one season. I could go on and on but I won't.
