The Hinterlands

Rise of the Runelords

From the sneak peeks of the bestiary of PF#2 it looks like the PCs are going to have some tense encouners with some swampies in the vicinity of Brinestump Marsh... And it has been stated that the Hinterlands will be covered more in PF#2. But how much will be covered in PF#2?

Have any DMs come up with any ideas as to mysteries, weirdness, and creatures of the regions listed below:

Grubber's Hermitage-

Dragon's Punchbowl-

Sog's Bay- (home of the mythical- or is it? Giant Snapper known as Murdermaw)

The Pyre-

Ashen Moor-

Bleaklow Moor-

Whisperwood-

Habel's Asylum- (covered in PF#2??)

Egan's Wood-

Wisher's Well-

Ravenroost-

Tickwood-

Tors: Leb's Tors
Rigg's Tors
Task's Tors

Whisperwood Moor-

Ashen Rise-

Devil's Platter- pretty obvious, home of the arse-kicking Sandpoint Devil, aka- potential party TPK for the first 2 PFs I'd say.

Shank's Wood-

Pauper's Graves-

The Three Cormorants-

Nettlewood and Mosswood have goblin tribes.. (possibly an ideal ambush point for the Scarzni bandits- discussed in Smuggle Bunnies thread.. The bandits would use goblinoid weapons to make it look like the caravan got hit by a goblin raid)

What are your thoughts?

I was thinking about setting a potential sidequest in the Devil's Platter area (treasure map to be found in the Catacombs that points here...)

I actually didn't connect it to the Sandpoint Devil at all, but now that you write it, it seems likely.

sort of like stormtroopers dressed as Tuskin Raiders attacking sand crawlers?

LOL! "See these gecko tracks? They ride side by side.. Goblins ride single file so that they can conceal their numbers."

If you look at the cover of PF#2 it reminds me a little of the Dracula movie with Frank Langela and Donald Pleasance.. Remember the asylum bit and the tunnels beneath it? Eerily reminiscent of that flick.. Alas, I'm dating myself.. I wonder if that's Habel's Asylum in the backdrop or Foxglove Manor?

Silver Crusade

after reading the Sandpoint devil's entry a bit more the other day I noticed it supposedly has a lair in

Spoiler:
Devil's Platter
but was curious is
Spoiler:
The Pit

Also any ideas on

Spoiler:
Shank's Wood
&
Spoiler:
Pauper's Graves
, since they are close to adventure?

note spoilers were added just in case a player of BO comes upon this post

I'm thinkin it might be Foxglove Manor

Spoiler:
due to Alderan Foxglove being mention he has a bigger role to play in #2

Hey I think Shank's Wood is the lair of some goblinoids.. Lemme check here.. Ah yes, see page 19 of PF#1.. The Shank's Wood goblins raid Sandpoint's garbage dump for anything useful..

As for the Pauper's Graves.. My idea is to have some well-plundered barrows in the location. The site is also a meeting place/hideout for Sczarni operatives. Maybe, just to make things interesting there is one barrow that is notorious in certain circles as being "unpillagable" (if that's even a word). That barrow is called 'The Shiver' by nickname.. Some very high DC traps that have claimed many victims.. Also guarded by a dread wraith...Among other beasties.

One of my player's Half-elf Shoanti Druid had his vision quest to become a shaman on Ravenroost. And I intend an encounter at the DEvil's platter...hehehehe.

Nicely done.. I like the way you incorporated the local scenery for PC developement.

My players went on a side quest to raid the Birdcruncher goblins. For the purposes of that quest, I decided that the Birdcrunchers use the Devil's Platter as their hiding place, retreating to small caves there when the local humans get riled up. After all, they're the closest goblins to Sandpoint: It stands to reason that they are habitually targetted whenever goblins from any tribe stir up the townsfolk.

You can tell when you're approaching the lair of the Birdcrunchers, since they paint sticky "bird lime" on the branches of nearby trees, allowing them to easily capture the limed birds.
