Well done, you have a gift for naming taverns.

Thank you kindly.

One I always thought was fairly clever was from the Vampire series of books was called:

The Sextants Dirty Secret

A few from my personal campaign:

The Howling Demon
The Inn of the Red Earth
The Harpy's Gold
The Copper Dragon

Best name for a bar I've ever actually been to:

The Cask and Flagon

(just across the street from Fenway Park in Boston)

How was your war?

Hot and wet... <g>

Overall, it was pretty good. With the war being moved up a week, the weather will tend to be worse.

Back on topic, tavern names can be generated from the following:
Animals (usually of significance to the clientele)
Coats of arms (local nobles)
Historical figures
Local sites

The Happy Dolphin
The Silver Gryphon
The Black Knight
The Standing Stone

Scarab Sages

We've used "The Bar with no Name" for years, and a brawl almost always certainly breaks out. other names we've used are:

The Red Fountain (A bar full of feminist adventurers, named for the fountain made of red gold in the middle)
The Game 'O Drink (A dwarven Favorite)
The Frozen Ale (It has a famed Vazalkyon bartender)
Gerts (Named after the bar on campus, it's a more low key place meant more for families or a quick stop after work then adventurers)
The Pointed Hat (A wizards bar, explosions frequent)
The Tophat (A high class saloon frequented by the upper and management classes)

Heh. The White Ring (a lace garter), to use a tame example from RJ?

The Boar's Nest...(Dukes of Hazard)

Captain's Table...(Star Trek)

Inn of the Last Home...(DragonLance)

The Dark Side...(DC super-villain bar)...get it?

the Regal Beagle...(Three's Company)

and mine...

the Griffon's Aerie
the Dragon's Dump
Mom's
the Dragon's Den

just remembered!
the Restaurant At The End Of The Universe...(Hitchiker)

I've used a lot of real pub/bar names from Cork city and county in the campaign I ran a while back:

The Wicked Monk
The Goat Broke Loose
The Barge
The Hairy Lemon
The North Gate Tavern
The Belfry
The Western Star
The Briar Rose
The Old Court
The Barge
The Porterhouse
The Mutton Lane Inn
The Long Valley
The Hawthorne

Ha! Just remembered another good one.

Just outside the Necropolis area in the DDO game:

The One Foot Inn

And another good one I've personally experienced is an Irish and Welsh themed pub in my hometown called the Harp & Dragon

Love that name, ever since they held the contest to name it! I still think the Portable Hole is a great name for a tavern. ;)

Over a decade ago in my homebrew campaign it was "The Iron Dragon", named after a rollercoaster at Cedar Pointe. It got started when my Rogue made it back to town at lvl 3 with all the partys' treasure (they got eaten by the dragon as I ran away)and retired; he started his own Inn from the profits. These days my franchise staple name is "Grinnin' Barrets". The sign is a big wooden smile that's whitewashed weekly. Barret was a former dentist who brews oat-mash, a grog that is strained through the teeth for maximum flavor.

Hmm

Since I am a Trekker,

Ten Forward (TNG), Quark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House & Holosuite Arcade and The Launch Pad (DS9), and The Ox & Lamb and The Night Owl (VGR)

From LotR The Prancing Pony and The Green Dragon

As for others ... the Drunk Monk (popular with drunken masters), the Lord's Hoard, All that Ales you, The Best Bar None, Inn the Neighbourhood, Ale Inn the family, A friend Inn need (okay I'll stop with the puns)

Don't forget the Renn Fiare constants:

Stumble Inn
Stagger Inn
Fall Inn
Out -n- Inn

the obnoxious:

The Begin Inn
Tivern Tavern
Roast Inn

some usefull ones:
The Alcohol Elemental
The Giant's Larder
Quarts And Quarters
Inntoxication

I'd like to add Roll Inn, the End Inn, Bake Inn, Cook Inn, Wine 'n Dine, Roiln Boil

I actually found some neat real life ones from Toronto: the Bow & Arrow, Scallywags, The Queens Head, Mana, Labyrinth Lounge, Splendido, Loons, the Yellow Griffin, the Old Sod, the Blue Goose tavern, Friar & Firkin, Black Bull Hotel and Tavern, the Hoseshoe Tavern, the Apothecary, the Elephant & Castle

The Crown & Anchor. (Real place in Vegas, great to get away from the hubbub of the casinos, fantastic fish n' chips.)

A few more from Toronto

the Foxes Den

King & I

Crown & Dragon pub

Fox and Fiddle

The Ferret & Firkin

The Monarch Tavern

Foggy Dew

For Your Eyes Only

Devil's Martini

Black Swan Tavern

The Exchange

Grain, Ale & Wine - My pride and joy, because I do so love puns :)

Maybe its because it is getting late, but I think I might need a little hand holding for this one.

Tam

As in, how is it a pun?

Grain, Ale & Wine = Rain, Hail & Shine :)

Ah...Medieval Jingle Advertising

Where the Ale keeps a flowin,
And the Farmers Daughter's Showin... some leg."
