Geddoe reaches the hovel, he is now standing immediatly next to the foul smelling door. For a moment he is certain he hears something from inside...

In the field, several of the effigies twist towards the hovel, hollow lifeless eyes peering into you...

Please spell out where you are located (Geddoe is at the hovel)

And make Listen Checks:

Male Human Rogue 1

Geddoe, about to check the door, froze when the miniature effigies spun towards him. Slowly, his hand dipped toards his boot dagger...

Listen d20 - 1 = 16!

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar is with the bulk of the group, I was guessing 40-50 ft from the front of the hut. Listen Check is 1d20+0 = 19

male Human Transmuter 1

Vishantos takes a few steps (5') to the right, alnong the edge of the clearing, trying to get a clear view without getting any closer.
Listen roll 7-1=6. Vishantos hears his own heart pounding in his ears.

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

Nerek is with Calar. He has not approached the hovel yet. Listen check d20 - 6 (not sure if it applies if I'm standing still?) + 2 = 15

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Okay, lets assume Laurent didn't move through the field either. The distance from the group to Geddoe, is 55', with him standing at the rotted door of the hovel. Someone make a Listen check for Laurent.

So far, no one hears anything else.

Sovereign Court Contributor

Laurent Reno's listen check; Natural 20! +1=21

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

The trained ears of the bard pick out the feintest sound in the distance. Something is moving around in the brush, back the way you came.

Male Half-Elf Bard 1

Laurent slowly draws his sword and whispers to the others near him, "Get down and keep your weapons loose." Then, pointing in the direction from which the sound came, he continues, "Somethin' is tryin' to sneak up on us."

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar will follow Laurent's lead, but also put a finger to his lips and nod in the direction of the noise in an attempt to alert Geddoe.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Laurent gets to act during the surprise round, his action is drawing his sword, free action alerting everyone else.

Suddenly, the foliage parts, and the slavering maw of the kobold zombie comes trundling towards you.

It attacks Vishantos (randomly selected) hitting AC 19 damage 2. This was a charge, so its AC is reduced by 2.

Someone roll initiative.

This is relentless Zombie-movie zombie, not completly brainless get scared never come back Zombie.

Male Human Fighter 1

Initiative:
Me - 1d20+ = 21 (I am so quick, lol)
Nerek - 1d20+1 = 21 (I swear to god)
Vishantos = 1d20+2 = 21 (I have no reason to lie, it is just a zombie)
Laurent = 1d20+3 = 6
Geddoe = 1d20+7 = 11

So I guess it goes Vishantos, Calar, Nerek (either way between these two), Geddoe, Laurent

male Human Transmuter 1

Wagh! HP adjusted

EDIT: Beaten to the initiatives.

Vishantos steps back from the creature and utters a spell.

5' step, Acid Splash

Attack Roll 13+3 (point blank) =16 (touch attack)

Damage Roll 3+1 (point blank) =4!

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Initiative: Round 1
Vishantos 21
Calar 21
Nerek 21
Zombie 13
Geddoe 11
Laurent 6

The zombie is engaged with Vishantos, and within a 5' step of everyone excluding Geddoe, obviously.

Vish, defend theyself

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar will step forward and swing. 1d20+4 = 19, Damage 1d8+2 = 6; using blunt hammer

Your magical attack strikes the creature square in the abdomen, burning a sikly smelling hole it the palid flesh, through which several rotting feet of intestine begin to slip.

Calar

Calar wrote:

Your blow strikes true to the side of the things head, but the spongy consistency, and useless bones diminish the value of the blow. You feel comforted that you shifted the creatures head a full inch to the side, but it seems non-plussed.

Nerek

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

I believe I had my crossbow out and ready, so...

Nerek shoots with the loaded crossbow.

d20 +1 = 13. Probably not enough to hit, but d8 = 3

He then holsters the crossbow.

The quarrel passes straight through the creatures arm, a geyser of green blod folling it as it exits. The creature seems unslowed by your attack.

Left in combat with Calar, the creature turns, and attempts to bite him in the leg, to hit AC 15 for 1 point.

Geddoe is up next, but will probably choose not to act as he is 60' from the zombie, and had just managed to sneak up to the hut.

Laurent (unless Geddoe has something clever)

Male Human Rogue 1

Geddoe's jaw drops slightly. 'Well I'll be buggered...' he thought, staring at the zombie. 'Guess it wasn't such a smart idea to let it go...'

Geddoe then glanced at the door. 'If anyone's in here, they'll probably notice the racket goin' on out here...' Then, an idea popped into his head. 'Maybe while they're distracted with my pals out front, I can sneak in through a back way...' With that, Geddoe begins creeping around the left side of the hut, keeping an eye out for an alternate entrance.

Hide d20 + 4 = 21 M.S. d20 + 4 = 18. Sorry guys! ^_^

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Geddoe's progress around the hut does not seem to be noted by anyone within, the place continues to be filled with eerie silence.

You reach the far side, but find no other entrance.

Laurent's go

Male Half-Elf Bard 1

Attack with longsword. atk=d20+1=19, dmg=d8+1=7

Laurent gets within striking distance and attempts to "disconnect" the zombie's torso and legs, mumbling "Where are the damn undead comin' from? Something's afoot..."

The creature seems grievously wounded by your attack. Your blow opens its belly wide, and a veritible shower of organs splays out at the creatures feet, making the ground slick with ichor.

Vish

male Human Transmuter 1

Vishantos uses his second and last acid splash spell, moving if needed for a clear shot.

Attack roll 6+3=9 touch attack
Damage 2+1=3

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar covers his mouth at the stench, but keeps swinging. Attack is 1d20+4 = 10; Damage is 1d8+2 = 4

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Vishantos' bolt of acid misses ite mark only slightly as the restless dead twists in its fight with Calar.

Calar's attack hits well, smashing the poor creatures head. Unfortunately, you are rewarded only with the death of the odd rat creature, the zombie is unslowed.

Nerek-by-proxy

Nerek draws his heavy mace as he steps up to the creature, and is rewarded with a resounding *splork* as his blow shatters ribs and spills the creatures remaining innards to the ground. for a moment it looks like it will stand, but then it topples over, clawed limbs dragging aimlessly at the dirt for a moment while the animating magic spills out along with the maggots.

To hit 15+1 = 16, damage 8+1=9 - 5 (DR) 4

Technically it is at 0, but i think no one will be coming up to heal it in the context of this adventure

Male Human Rogue 1

Ew. Nasty.

Anyways, no windows or doors? Okay.

"... Huh." Geddoe muttered quietly, marveling at the fact that there were no windows or doors anywhere besides the front door. Then, he took a look around the swamp. "Yeah... I wouldn't either." He then creeps back around to the front, circling the entire hut.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

There are a few places you suspect there may be a crack or an opening, but unless you want to be carrying a light around, you won't know for certain.

Aside from the first sound you heard, nothing has escaped the hut since you arrived.

And a strong breeze carrying the fetid sent of the decaying scrub crosses the clearing turning the various effigies to face away from you.

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar steps away from the rotting corpse. "I am not searching it." He says to those nearby. He moves about 10 feet off and hunches low, watching the hut and Geddoe.

Male Human Rogue 1

When I get back to the front door, I search the door carefully for traps. Search check take twenty + 5 = 25.

If I find a trap, my Disable Device is take twenty + 10 (Thief's Tools) = 30.

Then, I try the door to see if it's locked. If it is, Open Lock check take twenty + 11 (+2 for Thief's Tools) = 31.

Then, I open the door a bit and peek inside.

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

Sorry about not posting earlier, busy weekend

Nerek eyes the corpse warily, before turning back to watch Geddoe at the hut.

"Just what kind of nasty surprise do you think this witch might spring on us?" He whispers idly while scratching his forehead.

The door is neither locked nor hinged as it has swolen with moisture and rot. It is obvious that it has not openend in a very long time.

No problem, it happens especially on long weekends. I just didn't want to be stuck on a random encounter while adventure awaits.

There are many ways to open a door, but in this case it won't be a delicate one. You can pull it oout of the frame (strength check) or bash it in (damage roll)

male Human Transmuter 1

"That was weird" says Vishantos, loading his crossbow. "I'm not sure how much this will do against undead, if we meet more, but I'm out of acid spells."

Male Half-Elf Bard 1

Laurent wipes his blade on the grass, leaving the gore behind and steps away. "Messy lot, aren't they? Now, eyes on. Master thief up there is about to have a look-see." With that, Laurent moves away from the stink of the corpse and focuses on Geddoe's actions, sword still drawn.

Male Human Rogue 1

Geddoe studied the door, then stood, startling everyone behind him. He then walked back towards the group, but stopped halfway between the group and the hut. The bald thief put his hands on his hips, and sighed.

"This is stupid," he said aloud, before charging back to the hut and shoulder ramming the door.

Strength check...? d20 + 1 = 13. Ouch.

You burst through the door almost effortlessly, though the variety of bugs and crawlies living inside it that are now on you is disturbing. Your eyes adjust quickly to the darkness, quickly enough to see the black shape of a creature, roughly the size of a cat, startled by your appearence. So startled it raises its white striped tail at you, before...

Geddoe, as well as the inside of the hovel have been sprayed by a skunk. This has no immediate game effect other than being rather unpleasant to be around. Tracking you by sent won't prove difficult though.

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar starts to move forward as Geddoe kicks in the door. "So much for stealth." He stops as soon as he smells the skunk. "Aww, by the gods man!"

Male Human Rogue 1

Geddoe doesn't listen to Calar, instead opting to push him aside and gag outside. "Aaaaah... Gren de thalasha?!?!"* Spitting, Geddoe flung his hands in the air in a futile effort to breeze the stink away. "Don't think... uh!... no one's been in there for years, unless some critter like that damn cat dug under!"

* In Varisian...

Spoiler:
What the ****?!?!

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Inside, the cottage is dank, reeking, and filled with shadows. Haphazardly hung shelves line the walls, covered in all manner of clay jugs, clouded bottles, strangely cut rocks, rotted bunches of herbs, and a museum of other crude curios and remnants of a bone grinder’s artifice. A rusted iron cauldron, with a mouth nearly 5 feet wide and a depth of at least 3 feet, dominates the hut’s single room, its ash-covered surface shaped with a relief of capering fiends and leering devils. Across from the door, against the far walls, stands a highbacked chair made of wicker, the gigantic curved tusks of some monstrous beast, and thousands of human teeth. In the chair sits what looks like a corpse wrapped in filthy burial linens, its form padded with pungent herbs and sprouting patches of thick white mold.

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

"Egads man!" Nerek exclaims as he gets wind of the stench.

"Did anyone bring any tomatoes?"

Nerek will approach the hut, but not too close, as he doesn't want to be sprayed himself. He'll keep an eye out for the skunk.

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar begins to laugh as Geddoe swears in his native tongue. "Sorry, friend. But since you already stink to high heavens why don't you do the honors and chase that skunk out before we enter.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

The skunk has fled the scene through a small opening in the side of the hut. It was apparently munching on some of the preserved nuts.

Not you guys.

Tree nuts.

Male Human Fighter 1

"Well, stealth is no longer an option. I will enter first, then everyone behind me. Someone stay out here and keep an eye out."

Calar enters the hut.

"Look for rat tail guys, whatever that is." Calar will start to rifle through the place, purposely avoiding the wrapped corpse looking object.

Search check if needed is 1d20+1 = 18.

male Human Transmuter 1

"Let me see if I can help." Vishantos casts prestidigitation and tries to remove the odour from Geddoe. Failing that, he will add flowery scents if possible. Worst case, he will create a gentle breeze to direct the worst of the smell away from himself.

"Now then, let's see how organized this witch was." Vishantos will look and see if he can make sense of the herbs were sorted and stored. He will avoid the moldy corpse.

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

Nerek will remain near the doorway, keeping an eye out for any more zombies that might be lurking nearby.
