Hi,
We have a long-standing campaign set in the Realms, with me as the DM, and 5 players. We'd like to increase our numbers by one player to account for the occasional no-show, as some of the players live 45min from my place and can't always make it due to RL commitments (I always have a strong core of 3 to 4 gamers present though, but an extra player would ensure the 4 gamers minimum I so love! :P )
Let me know if you're in the Burlington/Oakville/Milton/Hamilton area and we can talk

i live in TO and already run a regular game. One suggestion for finding players in the area would be to use Meetup.com and checking out the Toronto role playing game group. There might be a Hamilton one as well that you could join. There are often people on there from the surrounding GTA looking for games to play in, and you could post a message. I've had success with this in finding players for my game.

Renee, thanks for the tip!
NOTE: I'm not looking for quantity, as I have 5 players already, but I'm looking for quality, and preferably someone who has played in the Realms before (only one of my five players knows anything about the Realms, which can sometimes be anticlimatic...)
Renee, do you know a Realms buff/afficionado out there who would be willing to play in a epic-level campaign? (average party level currently 17, but we won't stop when they hit 21+...)

The big problem I see in joining an established campaign is the lack of investment in the story by the new player.
Recently, we folded our 16th level SCAP campaign because we lost half of our players to real life complications. It was virtually impossible for the new players we recruited to be able to sink their teeth into the ongoing story because they had missed so much.
They had no feeling of being involved in the plot, no sense of attachment to the setting or NPC's and the lack of extended developement that a high-level character really deserves. Worse still, they felt intimidated by the players who had that level of involvement.
My advice would be to wind down your current campaign and end at a satisfactory point, then start a new campaign at level 1 with your old group plus new recruits. You'll probably get a ton of volunteers then.

Thanks for the advice, Xuttah.
However, we're dead set on an epic level campaign at this point. A new player would have to accept that we're winding down a campaign right now, and that the existing group is about to destroy a BBEG that threatens the world (easy reason for another high-level PC to join the fight or come out of the woodwork...)
Once that BBEG is gonzo, the "new" epic campaign will have the feel of a fresh start... the beginning of a new era (where PCs can be rulers if they so choose).
I guess I can't be that surprised... not a lot of people I know are into epic-level campaigns. That will be the first level 21+ campaign I'll be DMing, so I don't even know if I'll like it yet. Basically, it comes down to us wanting to conduct one big experiment: we have all these books with epic-level options that we haven't used yet, and we want to give them a whirl. I'm usually heavy in RPing and backstories, but this current group doesn't really give a damn about that, so as a DM, I adapted and catered, and we're up to epic levels now and ready to explore the (mostly combat) aspects of the game at these high levels. If some players demand rulership and other epic-RP elements, I'll adapt again (making heavy use of "Power of Faerun" then), but until then, I'll cater and continue a mostly "combat/quest" style gaming consisting of epic-level monsters and challenges.

Hey PDK ...
I don't know what frequency or evening you play, but I might be interested, my own time commitments notwithstanding.
I've been DMing the Realms for 12 years, and my group has gotten as high as 17th level at one point.
If I might suggest, a good way to test drive a player to see if he gels with your group is have him cameo as an NPC or a disposable character for a single adventure, and see if it works. If I were a new player, that's what I would want to try.
Drop me a line at checkyboy (at) gmail (dot com).

Alright: I've had three more people "sign up" for my campaign, but I haven't seen character sheet/concepts from them yet, and the game is next Tuesday, 15th of Jan... soooo..... basically, this is still opened to all... first come first served will be the order of who gets the campaign's permanent spots... Other may [gasp!] be relegated to the odd NPC cameo! :P
Remember: ECL 20 with 760,000gp's worth of gear/magical items. This type of character build takes a tad longer than whipping up a 1st-level PC, so let me know what you come up with (I'll need this info to work him/her into the campaign).
Remember: the premisce, from your PC's perspective, is that
['An epic battle to prevent the birth of a new evil god is brewing... A hafling mage of rising power named 'Azkov the Bold' has put out a call for heroes to the rulers of Faerun's nations. Some are scoffing and ridicule the halfling's effort, calling him misguided at best, but other, more informed/knowledgeable leaders have received information that verifies many of the halfling's claim. The dwarves of the Great Rift, Mirabar and Citadel Adbar have begun preparing against 'the tide of undeath that will sweep over the world', as they all firmly believe in the halfling's prophecies. A mysterious, silent gold dwarf samurai accompanies the halfling wherever he goes...']
Cheers!
PDK

Huzzah!
Please welcome our new player: Valstrom, male moon elf bard 10 / marshall 10
We had a blast last night, as this character made a spectacular entrance by almost sacrificing his life to warn the party about a gargantuan blue dragon creeping up on them! :)
He lost 110 of his 120 hp in the first round, but his Cape of Mountebank saved him! He later rejoined the fight, singing a little quieter this time, humming really, and keeping a hand on his potion belt at all times! LOL! :)

Anybody from this thread (or new to it) still looking for a group? we currently have two campaigns going, each every other week (i.e. week 1, campaign A; week 2, campaign B; week 3, campaign A, etc.)
Mine is set in the Forgotten Realms (Cormyr; 5th level PCs; running them through the Cormyr/Shadowdale/Anauroc FR hardcover adventures)
My friend's campaign B is set in the Forgotten Realms too, but in the Moonsea (4th level PCs)
I'm also looking for a Pathfinder Society group... I'm about to create a 1st-level Taldoran human bard or rogue. Let me know if you know someone who host events...

Thanks for the offer, but my gaming schedule is already as full as I can manage, and driving to Burlington for a game is more time and energy than I can commit. However, it sounds like you've got plenty of interest, so I hope it all goes well.
I take it that either you're not interested or that transportation is a problem P.H.?

I would be willing to go your way if you guys are hosting Pathfinder Society events...

We too are in the beginning steps of a campaign. It's Pathfinder Beta but not society if you're interested.
We're looking at every second Thursday starting 10/23. We have 4 confirmed players and 2 possibles that I'll consider it a miracle if they actually show.
Where are you guys located? I'm definitely interested... it'd be cool if we could use Pathfinder Society characters into the regular Pathfinder stuff (rise of the runelords, etc.) I'll ask Erik Mona to see if this could work...

Hi PDK:
The group is out of Hamilton. Age range is mid to late 30's and it's helpful if you have wheels 'cus the buses are a little sporadic in my neighbourhood.
I don't think Society characters will get credit in our campaign because it's just that - a campaign. Your character would not be portable to anywhere else and we plan on implementing houserules aplenty as we progress and evaluate the new system.
I'll tt the DM and make sure he's up for another player.

I live in the Toronto area (and I do have a pretty solid realms background), but I don't really know anyone who lives in The Oakville, Hamilton, Milton area who games. Sorry, all my gaming friends live in TO.
HEY! And Mexico (now)! ;-)
Makes me miss F2F gaming but also glad that I at least have my PbP's. Gracias Paizo!
(I also feel a warm little glow whenever I'm reminded that a good portion if not most of the players on here are around my age. =^)

PDK,
Sorry I was a no show yesterday. I got stuck on a job site in Toronto (I'm a contractor) and didn't even get home 'til 8pm. By that point, I was just too bagged to move.
Tell ya what, if you have an account on the HK forums, you can access my email or PM me and we can arrange a meeting time if you're still interested.
