The Batman (Animated Series)

Television

Being a Batman fan, I had to convince my daughter to watch this when it first came on so I had an excuse (heh), but when it first came on I wasn't particularly impressed. I knew it was going to be more "kid friendly" than the Batman: The Animated Series had been, but it just didn't do much for me.

Flash forward to this last season. After not paying much attention to the show for the last few seasons, I decided to watch it when I started watching . . . er . . . when my daughter started watching Legion of Super Heroes. I was pleasantly surprised. While it wasn't quite as grim or edgy as B:TAS was, Bruce seemed to be acting like Bruce, i.e. a little grumpier, a little harder edged, and I actually liked the Robin origin, which managed to not alter Dick's origin while still keeping the "mature" aspects of what happened off screen.

Plus the Bruce Timm written Harley Quinn origin story was like coming home.

So now I'm kicking myself for missing the end of the current season, and Martian Manhunter's appearance. I am so geeking out because not only did this season have a JLA cameo, but according to what I recently read, the JLA will also be part of next season's episodes, Superman appears next season, and Lex and Metallo both make appearances in the JLA episodes.

Yeah, I know, I'm a geek, but I'm almost starting to feel better about Justice League getting cancelled.

You know, ever since Batman The Animated Series went off the air for Batman and Robin, I have ignored whatever was going on there. I have had very limited opportunity to check out the latest series, but I still don't think I paid much attention. Sounds like that was a mistake on my part. I know I would be geekin out right there with you.

However on a note for something I did not skip; I have all three seasons of the original animated series. I love this series, as I bet you do. I highly recommend checking it out. They are sequenced by date of production, not by air date, which was screwed up on several two part eps. Unfortunately not much in the way of special features, but when you look at the sheer story telling by Bruce Timm and Co., I think it makes up for it.

I am going to have to check out the new series if I can, when it comes back.

And how excited are you for the next movie?
