Tiny / Large Races: Potential to Standardize or Permanently Marginalized?

3.5/d20/OGL

Is it possible to balance Tiny and/or Large races as +0 LA, as a whole, without resorting to applying extreme and bizarre abilities/hindrances to each individual race?

In other words, what would it take to make Tiny characters generally worth playing, if they are not already? What would it take to make Large +0 LA races NOT universally appealing as tank characters? Or is it just not possible?

In Arcana Evolved there is a race called Faen. They have two forms the quicklings and loresongs, these are both small size, but at some point can decide to stay the size they are or metamorph into a spryte which is tiny. So they start with +2 Dex -2 Str or +2 Int -2 Str and then later on you will have to decided if you are will to take another +2 Dex -2 Str which will cut your weapon damage str output, but you will be tiny higher AC and a few spell like abilities I believe.

My vote is permanently marginalized.

Seconded.

+3. Large gives too many benefits, the most obvious being reach, while tiny has too many drawbacks. I liked the way UA did the racial levels for giants and Faen, and I adopted giants for my homebrew.

The game was written for medium sized characters. Heck you can say they fudged the rules for small characters. Going large or tiny makes it unbalanced at best. Just forget about it.

That's an understatement. In my mind there is no Small size category, just mini-medium.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. It looks like there's small hope for larges and tinies. *world's smallest violin plays a dirge*
