Jeff Easley.

Funny story. Was at Origins and saw the AD&D PHB cover he did, he was standing beside it. I asked "Mr. Easley, that wasn't a self portrait, was it?"

He Replied "It didn't start out that way..."

Though the image that always got me was This.

Wayne "running at a forty-five degree angle" Reynolds, although Andrew Hou's work just gets better and better.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I appreciate that he has been around a long time, but his artwork doesn't "do it" for me at all. Also, no matter what setting he produces art for, he seems to have the savage "Dark Sun" astectic going on.

I hate that guy so much. He's the Rob Liefeld of fantasy. I actually feel angry when I see his work. I feel like shouting "people expect me to pay for this?" at someone. I've passed over books because his work was featured. His dark sun stuff un-inspired me to try that setting (even though I had bought the boxed set as soon as it hit the shelves). I’ve seen this guy for years and absolutely nothing of his work has seemed even remotely decent (to me).

I don’t know how he keeps finding work. I like to imagine most of his jobs offers go something like this "Hey Tom, we just phoned every single artist in existence and none of them are available . . . could you . . . <sigh> . . . 'draw' something for us?"

I hear that there are actually people who enjoy his work, well to each their own I guess, but it came as a shock to me when I was reading the introduction to my new shackled city hardcover and I saw that Chris had actually sought out Baxa. That he actually considered him talented. I always assumed that he was a hack artist. Someone you get if you can’t find anyone else . . . and you can’t go with a blank page. Baxa is the only artist (working in fantasy) that I truly hate. No one else in the industry even comes close to eliciting this kind of reaction. He’s like fingernails on a chalkboard.

As to artists that I like: Elmore, Lockwood, Reynolds, Brom, and Parkinson are really good, but other artist like Otus, Foglio, and Long, though less ‘realistic’, are equally enjoyable.

Wane Renyolds, 100%. I can't stand Wane England, though.

I love Broms work. Also Larry Elmore, Todd Lockwood,Clyde Caldwell. Also a Erol Otus fan.I think wayne renyolds is a great artist but personally i cant stand cartoony/anime inspired art and in my mind it has no place in d&d.*shrug*

Tony DiTerlizzi!

Wayne England does awesome magic item and weapon design. :)

David A Trampier/Erol Otus (tie)
Larry Elmore
Bill Willingham

First edition had clunky mechanics but great artists.

Here's a question for anyone that wants to answer it: what is your single favorite piece of D&D art?

There was a Dragon magazine cover, WAAAAAY back in the day, that depicted Kostchtchie whacking the bejesus out of a couple of hapless adventurers. I always loved that one.

Starfinder Superscriber

I'm a tiny bit biased on favorite artists, but I love the work of Erol Otus (old Skool!), Elmore, DiTerlizzi, Brom, and of course Raven Mimura. I have a fair amount of his work around my house as he gives it to friends as a holiday gifts. Plus the DJ Zombie Pink-Eye is me so ya know...

Edit to fix punctuation.
