A quick search of the Dolgaunt commander reveals him to be wearing a customized breastplate which allows his main tentacles to poke through. Gear wise, he is carrying a long sword, still in its sheath, and has a pouch at his hip (where he drew his potion from).

A small insect like creature seems to be crawling off the back of his left hand.

As Valessa makes to follow Beren, she notices the movement out of the corner of her eye. Thinking that it is one of the Dolgaunt’s tentacles or tendrils moving, she jumps, then notices the bug. “Ugh!” she says, attempting to squash the insect under her booted heel.

Any attack roll or anything required?

It is long gone by the time you get back from your little trot.

Sari is such a tease:)

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

"Maybe it's time for a status check. Should we continue while the trail is still fresh, or do we need to rest and regroup? Either way, most likely, if we don't find them, they will come back and find us. With a new leader I gather. Is everyone up for a chase? Brick, you alright? Rokko, still have some magic up your sleeve? I, for one, am up for moving on while the enemy is disarrayed and demoralized." After his speech, the Shifter looks over his companions waiting for feedback.

"Yes Brick, there was a battle."
I turn and listen to Beren "Well, if you think that best. I've got some more magic so we should be okay."
I'll follow Beren, keeping my crossbow at the ready. I'll heal anyone who's wounded and use bardic music when convienent.

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

“If our magic using folk are alright, lets get after them … just be wary everyone, alright? I know we beat them off easily enough, but there could be …. Worse things waiting for us around the next corner… So, did anyone search the Dolgaunt yet?” Valessa is clearly a little reluctant to touch the dead aberration.

Female Human Fighter/3

Sari looks towards Beren, "I am up for it but the magic part is all you guys. It will be interesting to try this thing out." Sari says as she fondles the sword trying to get a better feel for it.

Sari than looks about trying to find Ruuz. She wanders closer to him until she is right next to him. She tugs at his clothes and whispers. "Hey so I know you seem to know quite a bit more than you let on so is there a chance that you would know anything about this sword that I should know or rather that you will tell me before I go attacking things with something I know nothing about? Please don't tell me I need to preform "favors" to get this information" Sari says to him as she gives him her best "please god don't make me do anything funny."

Ruuz gets a mischievous smile "Well I will have to think about what this information costs but for right now lets just call it a favor, what ever that might be. The sword is an enchanters blade and like I said before it will extend the duration of any of my enchantment on it."

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

"I feel funny."

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren looks over at Brick and tilts his head in confused thought. "Brick, you feeling alright. I'll be the first to admit that I don't understand Warforged. You in particular Brick, but lately you have been off more than usual. So when you say you feel 'funny', what do you mean?"

Then the Shifter turns to Ruuz, "You get Warforged, right? Is there some type of test you can do? Maybe this place is effecting him in some way." Then he shakes his head, throws his arms in the air, and starts to turn toward the fallen Dolgaunt, "Ahh, maybe I'm just paranoid. Being down here for so long is driving me crazy. I can't wait to taste fresh air again."

Then Beren makes his turn and heads towards the Dolgaunt. He inspects the pouch for any more contents, and then unsheathes its sword to look at it. "Yuk, Khyber scum. This thing smells."

"So, you all ready to track down the rest of this trash?" As he says this, he kicks the dead Dolgaunt.

"So, you all ready to track down the rest of this trash?" As he says this, he kicks the dead Dolgaunt.

The pouch contains two glass vials, stoppered with what look like severed and swolen fingers of some unidentified creature. On the surface of each a rune is carved that seems to flow and dance as your eyes look on it. You hear a sound like the baying of rocks at the dinnerplate as you try to find meaning in the rune.

Will Save DC10, or you drop it, shattering the vial (there are two)

Drawing the sword from its scabbard reveals it to be a fine piece of steel, engraved and embelished lovingly. Suddenly as you lift it up to eye level, one of the circular engravings opens, revealing an eye inside. The sword stares at you for a moment, and then begins screaming (in common) "HELP ME! DESTROY ME! SEND ME TO DOLURRH!!!"

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

“Oh dear Host,” mutters Valessa weakly. “Spawn of Xoriat… Put it back Beren!”

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

Brick's at full hp, just a little disoriented.

At the sound of the sword's cry, Brick clutches his head, an unearthly wail escaping his metallic lips. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! MAKE IT STOOOOOOOOOOOOP!"

Female Human Fighter/3

Sari covers her ears upon hearing the screaming that seems to be coming form a sword. "What did you do Beren? How do we turn it off or at least shut it up?"

Male Changeling Artificer 4rd

Ruuz looks up at Beren when the sword starts screaming. "Quick sheath the sword but I would like to look at it later. What did you find on the creature?"

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Will Save (Roll 13+3=16)

Beren stoops down and opens the pouch on the dead Dolgaunt. Finding two vials, he pulls them out. His stomach turns at its contents, and his head swirls a bit when he views the runes placed on the vials. He shakes his head though to avoid disorientation. Taking his eyes off of the runes, he turns to Rokko, "So, what do you make of these?" He sets the vials down in front of the Goblin for examination.

Then he moves back to the Dolgaunt. Lifting the sheathe on an angle, he removes the longsword…

Dragonmann wrote:
"HELP ME! DESTROY ME! SEND ME TO DOLURRH!!!"

Beren gives a start and almost drops the sword. He quickly reaches for the sheath and hides the sword back in its carrier. "What in the name of Khyber is wrong with this place," Beren screams as his face turns a deep red and sweat is visible on his brow. His eyes are wide and his breathing is heavy as he looks around at his companions. Then he looks at Valessa, "Ok, OK, I am done! I am not touching one more damn thing in this place." After a few more heavy breaths the Shifter realizes that he is still holding the sheath and throws it to the ground, "If you want the damn sword, take it. I say we find those Khyber devils, find this Time thing, and finally get out of here. The Host take me if I touch another cursed weapon again."

don't you know by now it isn't that simple...

"NO!," screams the sword, "I won't go back in the dark!"

The sword wrenches it self from Beren's grasp, and begins floating in midair menacingly.

Roll Initiative.

Female Human (Aundairian) Rogue 3 / Ranger 1

“Aw, crap,” says Valessa, as the sword floats in midair, showing no sign of dropping – and every sign of wanting to attack them. “How do we fight a frakken sword?”

Init:18+2 = 20

Female Human Fighter/3

"We just couldn't leave well enough alone could we" Sari says as she watches the sword float in the air.

Int: 18+6=24

Male Wildhunt Shifter Ranger / 3

Beren feels the sword lunge from his grasp as he attempts to resheath the blade. Surprise turns to anger as he sees the sword now floating near him. "Fine, you wanna die? You'll die! Stupid sword."

Initiative Roll (2+4=6)

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

Brick is noticeably distraught as he repeats the sword's words.

"Not back in the dark. Don't put me in the dark. Back in the dark. Not back in the dark."

Init 12+2 = 14

Init 14 (12+4)
I stare at the sword for a moment and say "How come nothing normal ever happens to me?" then "Alright, uh sword, we won't put you back in the dark as long as you keep quite. We won't hurt you. Do you have a name?" I ask it soothingly. I put my crossbow on the ground in front of me and smile in a friendly, nonthreatening manner.
Diplomacy 27 (19+8)

"You won't ever go back into the dark again."

Sorry swamped here lately

Sari listens to what Merrick is saying to the sword. "Somehow I don't think this is going to be as simple as telling the sword that we won't hurt it. We need a plan here guys and we need it quick!"
may have more to post waiting on response from DM

Spoiler:

I wanted to try to put the sword back into the sheath but am not sure how to post for that or rather what rolls I would need to do. so here is what I was going to post and can you let me know what else I would need to do please or if this is even possible. Thanks!

Sari decides that this is a waste of time, trys to grab the sword and shoves it into the sheath.

I giggle that this is the classic how-to of 3.5:

Read this

Step one you provoke an attack of opportunity:
14+2=16 to hit
damage (if applicable) is 6

Step two, you need to make a sucessful touch attack

You manage to grab a hold of the sword, on your next turn you can 'pin' it with another succesful grapple check (an opposed roll). Once pinned you can push the scabbard onto the sword.

Meanwhile, the sword starts screaming, "NO, NOT THE DARK, KILL ME!!!!"

Ah, ok, sorry.

“Brick,” says Valessa softly, putting a hand on his ceramic arm, whilst still keeping her attention fixed on Sari struggling with the sword – she doesn’t think she could do much to help – “No one is putting you in the dark. Alright? We’re your friends. It’s this sword … its…. Evil. Crazy evil. Which is the worst kind.”

She flicks a concerned glance up at the warforged.

M/n Warforged Cleric 3 / Paladin 1

Brick looks down at Valessa. He appears terrified and conflicted, but says nothing. He doesn't move.

Shout out to Merreck.

Merreck fears his diplomatic effort is in jeopardy of failing. After a good start, he watches Sari reach for the sword and attempt to overpower the blade. "Uh, Sword? Ok, I know how this looks, but you are making a lot of noise. This noise will bring back those bad guys who imprisoned you in the first place. If you let us put you back in YOUR scabbard, we will carry you out of here and find out how to help you." Merreck hopes that his diplomatic efforts will allow Sari to put the sword back in its scabbard without further conflict.

Ruuz is up next.
