My friend and I will be starting The Savage Tides Adventure Path under the DMing of a good friend, and I am making a Wu Jen, whilst my friend is to become a swashbuckler. I need to know if there is enough water to make me completely useless in a lot of the adventures because I plan to become an Earth based Wu Jen. So, about how much of this game adventure path takes place in or around water? Nothing about the storyline though, I'm just afraid all I will get out of becoming an Earth Wu Jen is some cool role playing possibilities. Oh, and Earth is my favorite element.
If it isn't too much to ask for, could you post your thought on the Wu Jen and if it is a valid looking class with good spells?
Your friend,
Sir Smashes Alot

Wu Jen is a fine class, but I was unaware that they had to specialize in an element.
*reads through Complete Arcane*
Ok, so Wu Jen do get an Elemental Mastery; but it only enhances the casting of their preferred element. It doesn't hinder anything about the other elements.
Shugenja (Complete Divine), on the other hand, *do* have an elemental deficiency, which (in the case of an Earth Elemental Shugenja) would limit their effectiveness.
Wu Jen don't rely on their elemental mastery element being there, as most of their spells just enhance their bodies through the usage of their element. An Earth Master Wu Jen wouldn't have any problems at sea, unless a specific spell said it wasn't useable while afloat.
Unless you don't take *any* water spells, you should be fine. There is a moderate amount of things related to water in this Adventure Path, being centered on a nautical piratey theme.
tl;dr - Wu Jen spellcasting isn't penalized for casting outside favored elements, so you're cool.

We had a similar problem with our SwordSage who took the Stone Dragon style, which cannot be used unless you are touching the ground. Seems kind of a strange style for a water genasi anyhow, but he decided to keep it for use when he's not shipboard or swimming.
I'll doublecheck wu jen spells when i get home, but unless you have ones that require alot of earth to manipulate (earthquake, excavate, earthen rampart) you should still have spells to cast.
You might be careful about your taboos, or at least discuss it carefully with your DM. The one against eating meat might be difficult for a sailor to pull off.
