Savage Tide meets Krynn

Savage Tide Adventure Path

I am getting ready to start a new Savage Tides game and after some careful consideration (and some discussion with players) we decided to make the Dragonlance Setting our new adopted game world for our sunday game. Now, I know Krynn mostly from the novels, and from the 3.5e Dragonlance book, my friend is going to be bringing all the other 3.5e Dragonlance books. But I am going appeal to the boards for alittle help if possible as well with ideas about how to make things fit in Krynn.

First order of business... Sasserine, after looking through the geography of Anaslon (sp?), I decided that Sea Reach will be the new Sasserine, and I will just use the Sasserine from the Player's Guide and the backgrop with its new name of Sea Reach.

Now, I need to read more...

Keep us posted on how it goes. I could see Taladis being a part of the setting.

Taladis crossed my mind as well. It really is one of the most interesting and innovative campaigns worlds around. Too bad it never got any worthwhile support.

Taladis had been mentioned by a friend, but the information for it is relatively small, especially in 3.5e Krynn. Also I want this campaign to help introduce some players unfamiliar with Krynn, them never having read any Dragonlance novels, so our next campaign after Savage Tide will be the actually Dragonlance trilogy, which means Anaslon is the continent that I am using as opposed to Taladis. I will have more solid information about what I am doing soon as I finish going through the Sasserine Backdrop and There is No Honor.

After a brief skim through of There is No Honor, these are the changes I am making, also I have some suggested changes that I am not decided on yet.

1. All gold peices become steel peices.

2. Lavinia Vanderboren becomes a Noble. (Aristocrats are replaced by the Noble class in Dragonlance). This doesn't really change her except for four things, add +2 ref, and the class features Bonus Class Skill, Favor +1, and Inspire Confidence 1/day.

3. D23 change Churtle from a Kobold to a Gully Dwarf, that is exactly what I thought when I read about Churtle.

4. D29 change the Bugbear Zombie to a Hobgoblin Zombie (I do not know if Bugbears exist in Krynn, but I know Hobgoblins do!)

Now for the possible changes that I haven't decided on yet...

1. Whether Kora should be a Kender or a Gnome... (Halflings don't exist in Krynn).

2. Change the Rhagodessa to a Horax (Bestiary of Krynn), the Challenge Ratings and Hit Dice are the same for both, but this change I don't know if its really needed or not.

3. Change Rowyn's Bard levels into Noble levels. This is not really needed at all, but it would fit the change being the daughter of a noble family. Either the Bard or the Noble would work just fine.

Another change throughout the entirity of the adventure is of course referring to Sasserine as Sea Reach which is on the Blood Isle of Saifhum.

Next subject up for study will be the Sasserine backdrop, though that is mostly change deities and the name of the City, not much to it really. It will have to wait until tomorrow night or later, because its late now.

I love the idea of changing Churtle to a gully dwarf. That is perfect! Though I would never eat anything prepared by a gullydwarf.

I think Kora should be a gnome. It would be exceedingly rare to have a kender servant, if you like holding onto your possessions that is.

I'm not familiar with a horax, but I would suggest leaving the rhagodessa as is. It is a new monster to 3.5 anyway (updated from 0D&D) so it's not like it's a Greyhawk specific critter or anything and I think the rhagodessa has a good STAP specific feel. Also, there are more rhagodessas down the line, including some big ones on the Isle of Dread if I'm not mistaken.

I'm pretty sure bugbear exist in Krynn, but I'm not positive. Was Fewmaster Toede a bugbear or a hobgoblin?

Keep us posted, I'm curious to see how STAP works in Krynn. Especially what you do with

Spoiler:
Demogorgon. Does he (it?) exist in Krynn?

Toede was a hobgoblin, but there are indeed bugbears in Krynn (but no orcs).

Spoiler:
Demogorgon did appear in a DragonLance novel, Kendermore, but that novel is largely regarded as a "kender tale," i.e. one that doesn't "count" in continuity.

On the other hand, he could be a singlular demon (not a planar lord) or a deific scion that is powerful but not quite divine, like Aartha or Jiathuli.

You can change the half-orc in BWG to a half-ogre and give him fewer character levels to keep the CR intact. I can't find half-ogre stats in 3.5, but I remember one from the Twins trilogy. You could make something up.

Don't get too caught up trying to stay true to the books (or campaign sourcebooks). In D&D there is always something new lurking in uncharted territory just off the map.

Half Ogres are in Races of Destiny, and the outdated version is in savage species. I don't know if there's an open soruce version.
