You think that's nonsensical? Do you remember the dialog before that big fight, where Anakin declares that if Obi-One is not his alley, than he is his enemy? Obi One's answer to that is probably the most idiotic thing Iv'e ever heard:
"Only Siths think in absolutes."
So....
Star wars is graet, but really, no one should have expectations of it as far as plot logic goes...

Which would have been corrected in Death Star II.
More to the point, it looks like the Deat Star was the first "new technology" that was created in centuries. So, people were likely out of practice with R&D engineering.

I heard something about the actor who played young Anakin Skywalker (the podracer kid). He got bullied in school after the movies so badly that he got rid of all his Star Wars memorabilia from the movies and doesn't want anything to do with any acting again. The reason for the bullying? Because he supposedly ruined the Star Wars franchise.
A lot of people are saying he is whining too much but I really see our world as a bunch of bullies anymore.
I can understand not liking a movie, but making a point of teasing someone who was in it incessantly or blaming him for ruining a series is just rude.
I just hope the "true Star Wars fans" can be a bit less critical this time around and enjoy the movies for what they are.

Well, yeah. That's kinda the point... there was a design flaw in the first Death Star, and the rebels exploited it. And even as a design flaw, it proved all but impossible to exploit. All the rebellion's most seasoned fighter pilots failed to actually hit it. That the Death Star's architect failed to take the resurrection of the Skywalker bloodline into account is not really something he should be blamed for (I'm sure the Emperor did just that anyway.)
The second Death Star supposedly didn't have this flaw. Of course, the second Death Star wasn't finished by the time the Rebellion attacked it, so they were able to physically fly their starfighters inside the superstructure once the shield was down.
I don't really have a problem with the logic of any of this.
I do have a problem when one jedi being on five inches higher ground than the other suddenly mean the fight is over. That's just... dumb, and completely counter to roughly every previous jedi fight ever shown.
(In fact, this was exactly how Obi-Wan defeated Darth Maul in Phantom Menance.)

I guess I have no problem with a new Vader aside from how it might conflict with existing Legacy era expanded universe material.
Obviously this would have to be A) a clone of the original or B) a new child of the midichlorians (gasp) with Shmi #2 or C) someone resurrecting Vader as a role and using the armor but not actually being the same person. The catch is Vader (armored Vader that is) was the result of cyborg/bionic replacement to the injured Anakin. A new Vader may take the same costume but presumably be a non-cyborg underneath.
Of course, who knows what strange Sith sorcery lurks in lost holocrons.

Irregular webcomic explained it best. Using enough energy to blow up a planet generates truly massive amounts of waste heat. That is why they need the death star to be so big, it is mostly heat sinks. Then once they have fired, they can seep the energy out slowly. If this is not done, of course it will blow up. And, uh, the thermal exhaust ports are pretty important...

Conflicting with the expanded universe material is something I see as a benefit, not a hindrance. Are there any Jedi from the post Return of the Jedi period that don't spend time in thrall to the dark side for at least some point of thier lives? Besides the ones that die shortly after being introduced, I mean?
