This is actually something I didn't expect to like even though I like Chevelle.

I'd been a fan ever since Wonder What's Next, but hadn't heard anything new from them on the radio in years. All of a sudden, though, I'm hearing "Mars Simula" on every rock station, and miracle of miracles, it's actually really good.

I've heard a little from their album before this. It was good. But the new one is probably better.

Classic Megadeth.

Silver Crusade

I have been known to haunt record stores for hours at a time. Every once in a while, I pick up an album with an interesting cover and/or band name. Most times the results are less than ideal. However this one was pretty decent.

Stranger in a Strange Land-Spocks Beard

I have had good results in record stores by adhering to the following guidelines:

1) It's in the jazz section
2) It was produced between c.1971 and c.1978
3) It has at least one synthesiser listed on the credits.

However, that's almost certainly just me.

Though I am far from an aficionado on jazz, I have had good luck in that category. Norah Jones, Weather Report, Miles Davis. I have been told on multiple occasions that I need some John Coltrane in my collection.

Journey of the Sorcerer-Eagles

You have to love how the Eagles decided one day to write this cosmic-fantasy instrumental and throw in a banjo for fun. And then a sci-fi writer ends up making that the theme to a genre-defining work cause of said banjo...and the rest is history.

Repent Walpurgis-Procol Harum

Magnificent composition.

Peel the Paint-Gentle Giant

A great piece of 70's prog, even though the middle is a bit more on the hard rock side

I would recommend it very strongly.

'Impressions' , 'A Love Supreme' and Africa/Brass are my faves. Some of the later stuff is pretty far-out, which may or may not be your thing.

Precious and Grace- ZZ Top

I always liked this one

I am officially on the Coltrane, after listening with my wife we promptly went out to get those three albums. She suggested getting a "Best of", I however have never been a fan of best of/greatest hits collections.

Whenever I listen to music, I like to listen to the whole album. Hearing the song progression from the beginning to the end really feels like an adventure for me.

Vindu

White Plume Mountain by "Loot the Body", a group that does music based on D&D, like the aforementioned module, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks (an entire album) or Dwellers in the Forbidden City.

Masayoshi Takanaka album All of me popped into my up next playlist some days ago on autoplay and I've been absolutely digging his music since, it's honestly mindblowing how localized his music is to Japan with VERY little of the marketing or sales for it even being bothered to be translated or recreated for English speaking/reading audiences.

I imagine you'll have encountered them already, but the two compilations of that scene on Now Again records are the tops:

Part 1

Part 2

I don't even like this kind of music and I just sat through three albums in a row.

The Gates of Delirium-Yes
I have a strange relationship with Yes, Jon Anderson's Vocals sometime irritate me but their music is always top shelf

Isis by Bob Dylan. This is my favorite song of his (along with the other 30 or so favorite songs). I'm pretty sure that his best album is Desire or Blood on the Tracks, however.

Takeshi Terauchi & The Blue Jeans - Rashomon. This is a fantastic album, and I'm glad it's back on Youtube.

Silver Crusade

The Temple of the King-Rainbow
Astronomy-B.O.C.
Epitaph- King Crimson

Funny Story, back in the nineties I went to see this band at the palace of fine arts in San Francisco. Upon arrival, I see all these folks in tie-dye and such. Apparently, they mistook this for a Grateful Dead show.

Liberty's Edge

It's not publicly available yet but TMBG has a new album, BOOK, out in a few weeks that I've thoroughly been enjoying for the last few days. In particular, Darling the Dose and Brontosaurus are great jams.

Otherwise, Leong Cheng - Leon Mode dropped a few months ago and that's definitely dig-worthy.

I'm very torn about this cover... it's extremely catchy and well-done, but seems to miss the rawness and pain of the original:

Grechka - "Vsyo Idyot Po Planu" (Grazhdanskaya Oborona cover)
