Santigold

This is a pretty nice little pop album from a couple of years back.

Lights Out

Les Artistes The 1st half of the video's kind of boring, but the 2nd half's cool.

I'm a Lady Fan video, but I like the song

You'll Find a Way

Paizo Employee Director of Brand Strategy

I have a cover of Frank Zappa's Watermelon in Easter Hay playing on repeat on Spotify while working today. This is my undisputed favorite song of all time, and while this cover pales in comparison to Frank's performance, it nevertheless captures much of the raw emotion, passion, superb tone, and melodic genius that makes the instrumental the only song that I could honestly say I'd listen to for the rest of my life if I could choose only a single song.

Mothman, do you subscribe to MOG online?

My friend that gives me new bands is usually within a day or two of new bands that you come up with on here. Im wondering if you two get info from the same place. You post a band/song right after he's sent me a youtube link...or a couple days before him. Its uncanny.

His new favorite is Lana Del Ray, who Im totally in love with.

Yup, Lana Del Rey is a cutie.

No, I don't think its available outside of the US (I'm in Australia).

I listen to a radio station (Triple J) that tends to be very on the cutting edge, particularly when it comes to 'alternative' music. I'll hears things weeks, sometimes months before I hear them played on more commercial, mainstream stations. Specifically, thay also do a new music show once a week that previews some good stuff days or weeks before they start playing it in their regular programming.

I also have a couple of friends around the place (especially some friends in the UK and Singapore) who send me some pretty new stuff.

From Mr. Shiny's list:

ZZ Top

Me and this song have history that I won't bore you with

Otis Redding

I know you hate hippies, Shiny, but if you ever get a chance, there's a DVD of the Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding performances at the Monterey International Pop Festival that's ABSOLUTELY KILLER! I don't know how you feel about Hendrix (I love him), but the Otis show alone is worth the price of the box set--although you would probably only want to rent the Otis disc

From Mothman's list:

Dandy Warhols

The best cover of "Brown Sugar" out there! Oh wow, I had never seen this video before--it's got naked people in it!

Felix da Housecat

I've got two of his albums that are awesome

Man, youtube's great. All these videos I've never seen for songs I've been listening to for years!

Liberty's Edge

I haven’t seen a lot of these videos either, thanks for posting them Doodlebug (and drunken nomad) – especially ones with very cute naked girls fixing cars. The full frontal male nudity I can take or leave, but I guess its only fair.

Salt Peanuts

I've actually been listening to my Charlie Parker boxset, but I couldn't resist this charming clip of Dizzy Gillespie's big band doing it on tv, especially given all the Shakespeare talk recently

New Speedway Boogie

Some people love 'em and some people hate 'em. Guess which category I'm in? I was at a bar once and a guy trotted out that tired old trope that the Grateful Dead only sound good when you're high. I responded "First off, that's not true and second, so what?"

[Bubble bubble bubble]

I'm not sure, but I think this clip is from that movie about the train trip across Canada with the Dead, the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Band and Janis Joplin. I don't remember it's title, but it's awesome!

More glorious hippiedom!

Neil Young--Revolution Blues from On the Beach which I can't believe I only recently got a copy of--this shiznit is awesome!

The Fairport Convention--Meet on the Ledge from What We Did On Our Holidays This is another Sandy Denny performance that makes me cry.

I just picked that one up too at the suggestion of the CDWarehouse clerk. (didnt know Alice had new disc) I really liked "Dirty Diamonds" from Alice a couple years ago (except the last track with a rap by Xzibit)...Ive listened to Nightmare 2 through a couple times and I really like it.

But the last couple days Ive been OBSESSED with Rival Sons - Pressure and Time. The rest of the album is great too. I have another of theirs on order. T Rex/Zeppelin/Dead Weather/Badlands/Wolfmother...great retro rock!!!

I'm still listening to On the Beach by Neil Young, but I have a burning question for Alice Cooper fans:

When I was prepubescent, my friend had one of those compilation tapes you can buy in gas stations and it had a song that IIRC was by Alice Cooper that I've never been able to find again.

Again, IIRC, it was a piano number where the singer is complaining that he doesn't have any friends and then the background singers rattle off excuses about why they didn't return his phone calls or answer his letters. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Mothman wrote:

The Beards – You Should Consider Having Sex With A Bearded Man

This song title is very true.

...ziggy played guitar...

Doodlebug, is the Alice song Alma Mater?

one of my favorites of his

No, it's not that. Thanks for trying, though.

If I search my memory back through two decades of getting high I come up with this:

"You never answer my letters"

"We didn't have the time"

"You never somthing something phone calls"

"We didn't have a dime"

I'm not saying that those are really the lyrics, and come to think of it, I'm not certain that it's AC. Hmmm, I'll go shoot my friend an e-mail.

EDIT: +1 on the Ziggy

Alice Cooper--Nobody Likes Me
