Igor Wakhevitch - Docteur Faustus
A winner. An album of his featuring Salvador Dali also exists on Youtube, but it's two hours long; there's only so much elegantly moustached loonie that can be taken at one sitting, as anyone who's spent more than three seconds in my company will testify, so we'll leave that for the time being.

I don't seem to be visible in any of them but I know I was in the crowd when those pool shots were taken. Suspect I may have been at the bar at the time :P sadly no photos of my brother's band there either.
So I've just got home after a long ride back. Going to take a nap but I thought I'd list the other acts I saw first.
Russell Morris (an Australian blues legend), Charlie A'Court (Canadian artist), the Mal Eastick and Milena Barrett Blues Project, Frank Sultana and the Sinister Kids, Jeff Lang, Shaun Kirk, Bondi Cigars, and the Snowdroppers (weird mix of bluegrass and heavy scunge rock. Utterly fantastic)
Some awesome covers played throughout the festival too. The Blue Ruins (I may be biased since my brother is the drummer :P) did amazing covers of Jolene (learnt so that crowds would stop booing them when their old manager booked then into the Tamworth Country Music festival, and not on the blues stage) and Respect (the sheer energy Kate puts into that song is amazing). Sugarcane Collins did a slow soulful blues cover of Sixteen Tons. The Snowdroppers did Shout (The Isley Brothers one, not the Tears for Fears song). Richard Perso did a cover of Solid Rock by Goanna and Going Out West by Tom Waits.
Also thanks for the Jeff Lang and John Butler link drunken_nomad. Love both of them, so awesome to see them together.

If you're wondering where Eden is... it's a coastal town in southern New South Wales sitting on Twofold Bay, about 45 minutes south of Bega, the town where I grew up. While Bega is known for its dairy industry (specifically cheese, so if you know the name that's probably why), Eden has always been a fishing and timber town, and was a whaling town for over 100 years until it ended in the 1930s. Like most of the Sapphire Coast (the tourist/marketing name for the Bega Valley Shire), it's a beautiful place, and has some really fascinating history (the Killer Whale Museum is well worth a visit). One of the more interesting stories, that you'll hear referenced in the song Moving Out Of Eden, is about Old Tom, an orca who used to lead a pod of other orcas in helping the whalers. They'd herd whales into the bay for the whalers to kill, and would be rewarded with the lips and tongues of the whales to eat.
So, great song and an impromptu history lesson. Don't say I never do anything for you :P
Side Note: Yes, I grew up in a place often referred to as the Shire, and am in fact short, prone to carrying a bit of extra weight, like to eat, have hairy feet, and (until I started going bald at 19) had long somewhat curly hair. It is entirely possible that I am in fact a hobbit. Oh, and I used to wear a replica of the one ring.

Anyway, this morning's tunes are from The Blue Ruins last album, Bleed. Unfortunately sold out now and not available digitally, nor ever likely to be since the band is officially over now since 9:00 PM Sunday night when they finished their last set at the Thredbo Blues festival.

The drummer is my little brother, Aidan, and I went to school with the singer, Kate. The guy on electric guitar, Al, is her dad. Kate's voice is amazing, you should hear her cover Respect, so much power behind it. Unfortunately no video of that, but I've found some of the stuff they did with the Van Jam Sessions a while back. EDIT: Apparently I'm telling lies, because I just found a video of them performing Respect, with yet another different look for my brother. I'll put it on my list to check out. I loved all his stuff from Antichrist Superstar through to The Golden Age of Grotesque. Eat Me, Drink Me and The High End of Low I didn't mind, but didn't think were anything special, and I was warned off from listening to Born Villain by a friend. Maybe The Pale Emperor will be something I can enjoy again.

Well I'm in love with Manson's new album, The Pale Emperor. Loving the blues influence on it, and Killing Strangers is an amazing song.

Since Mrs Snorter and SnorterDaughter came back, I've been limiting it to the instrumentals, so I'm now onto the Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music album. Oh, yeah, check out that Chronoglide Skyway....

Had a long Britpop diversion, then swerved off from there. My son used to find this song relaxing when he was a baby, and make me put it on.

Oh man, I have spent SO much time on YouTube just linking around. They have EVERYTHING! Especially live stuff...like the AMAZING Slipknot/Korn mashup doing Sabatage that Mr Mallon linked to above. SO MUCH ENERGY in that arena. Would have loved to have been there. WOW! And then that links into...and that links to...and then it's a cpl hours later.
Last night went to one of the final Randall Shreve and the Sideshow shows. Kinda like "Killer Queen" version of Mercury, fold in some Tigerlillies, add a bit of Muse...plus a dash of Scott Joplin. It was good, though half the crowd left during a 4-song Beatles block. It was weird. "Kiss My Ass" and "Alcohol" went over big with the crowd. Apparently, family and other pressing matters are forcing the group to split up for now. Im guessing the Ozarks area hasnt seen the last of these guys, just in this form.

Thanks to Tinkergoth for posting to The Blue Ruins; I got a soft spot for ladies who can rock out.
I went from them, through Janis Joplin, and to a Joplin tribute by Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone. I didn't know she'd been ill, but she doesn't let it cramp her performance.
No worries, glad you liked their stuff. The reason they've broken up is because Kate is going solo, so when she's got some new songs out I'll be sure to post some links.
