The Pogues, featuring Kirsty MacColl - "Fairytale Of New York"
Needed that holiday tune, man. Cheers!

I'm starting to realize that the night shift at UPS is full of music people, for some reason.
Finally got around to listening to my union brother's band's cd which he gave me a couple of weeks ago, but I've been busy.
The Shallow End Divers--Melting Skies
Kinda Doors-y with a more garage-y vibe. 'S alright.

It's pretty good. Would have been even better with a more lo-fi production, IMO, but maybe they're not going for the whole '60s punk revivalist thing.
EDIT: Track 3 kind of reminds me of the Ghostbusters theme tune (initially...)

Visited New York's internationally semi-famous hipster snob record store, Other Music, and ended up with three records I'd only ever heard on the internet, two of them from Comrade Longears.
The Psych Funk of Black Merda

But I can't listen to them until I get home, so, in the meantime, spurred by Drunken Nomad,
David Crosby--If I Could Only Remember My Name
which works just as well on a cold Friday afternoon.

Catherine Ribiero + Alpes - Un Jour... La Mort
I have forgotten enough French to have only a very vague idea of what she's singing about, even with the lyrics listed out underneath the vid. Trays bean, anyway.

Lila Ignite and Del Paxton were the last that I can remember.
A quick rundown of my friends in the central New York music scene circa 2009-2015:
- Del Paxton (Buffalo, NY) are friends of friends, and are named after a character from one of my favorite movies.
- Lila Ignite (Binghamton, NY) are also friends of friends. I opened for them once at a show in Middletown.
- Bridge Under Fire are a mainstay of the Syracuse music scene, and are good friends. Frontman Mark Turley runs LRS Records, a local indie label.
- Shore Acres Drive (Ithaca, NY) are all students at Ithaca College and Cornell University. Charlie and James from SAD are tour buddies of mine.
- Participation Trophy (Syracuse, NY) is the one-man act of James Manton, who also plays bass in Shore Acres Drive.
- Caught Up In A Dream (Ithaca/Roscoe, NY) is the one-man act of Dylan Bowers, another one of my tour buddies.
- The Andrea Doria (Syracuse, NY) broke up in 2010, and their lead guitarist and bass player went on to form Bridge Under Fire.
- Department (Syracuse, NY) is the latest project from former Andrea Doria drummer Nick Streeter, who also played drums in Syracuse's The Scarlet Ending.
- Surly Dylan Suttles (Syracuse, NY) is a professional weirdo (also my neighbor) who recently decided to quit music altogether to become a photographer, though he still fills in occasionally as a bass player for Bridge Under Fire.
- Summer Cult (Syracuse, NY) was composed of singers Marissa Van Boden and Surly Dylan Suttles, as well as Alex "Broadside" Barnes, and current Bridge Under Fire drummer Steve Lowe. They broke up around 2012
- Gyaos (Syracuse, NY) broke up in 2012, and their lead guitarist Joel Jensen Heath (my best friend from college) went on to form Buzzy Girl Flynn with The Vanderbuilts' frontman Sam Kogon (AKA Ronnie Crawford). Joel is now the frontman of Advertising (Brooklyn, NY) with the former bassist of SSWAMPZZ (Syracuse, NY), while Sam now serves as the lead singer of the re-formed The Left Banke in New York City.
- Perfect Pussy (Syracuse/Brooklyn, NY) was formed from former members of Shoppers, SSWAMPZZ and Gyaos, and has made a career out of talking s$$# about the scene that made them indie media darlings. I got to be in a crowd scene in their first music video.
- Friendless Bummer (Syracuse, NY) are college buddies of mine. Frontman Ben Bondy went on to form Cult of the Crying Moon and Band Practice. Guitarist Sam Sodomsky also tours as The Bird Calls.
- Operation Hennessey (Syracuse, NY), the side project of Bridge Under Fire frontman Mark Turley is a band I occasionally play in, and also features Insufficient Funds bassist Ryan Shannon, as well as a 9-year-old kid playing drums.
- Collin and the Bournes (Rochester, NY) are basically the punk version of Andrew WK, and are cool dudes who like pizza, garbage plates, and positive attitudes.

I've been on a Crue kick lately.
Live Wire
Red Hot
These first two records are still so good. LOVE em!
Use It or Lose It
Wild Side
Then came these in the haze of ALL the drugs they could shove in themselves. WildSide is about the only song I like off of both records. GirlsGirlsGirls is pretty good too.
Same Ol Situation
then came their 'redemption' record. Dr Feelgood has some great stuff on there.
I lost track of the group through their turmoil and Corabi years and solo Neil stuff and Methods of Mayhem and Tommyland (though I did follow Nikki into the Brides of Destruction and the Sixx AM records). Someday Ill go back through and listen to that stuff.

Before I read that, I had never heard of Pierre Kirby. Now I have, and I completely agree. Also, I would very much like to watch Thunder of Gigantic Serpent.

As I write this I'm standing by the pool outside the Alpine Hotel in Thredbo, eating a giant pretzel and drinking a pre-lunch beer while I watch Blue Heat pay some smooth jazzy blues. Nice breeze, warm sun, good food and drink and amazing music. Def coming back for next year's festival, though sadly my brother's band, the Blue Ruins won't be here, as they're playing their last three shows as part of this year's lineup. They put on an amazing show last night though.
Others I've seen so far are Sugarcane Collins, The Shane Pacey Trio, the Harry Brus Band, Brody Young and Richard Perso. Much more to see as well before I leave here tomorrow afternoon.
