Scarab Sages

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've been on the boards because real life is a silly, poopy kind of beast. My contract wasn't renewed with the Army (one of several, so nothing personal), so I've been in a flurry of sending of resumes and trying to pimp myself out to the museum and curation world. It's not the best of all job markets out there, anyway, so it's just been frustrating. I'm looking for temporary situations around here right now and I have some local (non-archaeological/non-curation) jobs to tide me over until I find something in my career path. The silver lining is that my contract was set up so that January is a severence month, so am able to fully devote myself to the search. Pimpin' ain't easy!

On much more enjoyable news, I've decided that I'll be going to Origins in July. Anyone else planning on going? The end date for the early-bird price is January 10, so there are a couple more days for early registration. My in-laws live about 12 miles from the convention center, so it's a great staging area for me...oh yeah, and to see them. Anyway, I've missed the community and the comradery of the Paizo boards and wanted to give a mini-shout out.

My sympathies, brother. I'm in a similar situation, but I'm looking forward to that day when I can look back on today and say 'life is good'.

Liberty's Edge

I was wondering where you went. I thought a giant toddler caught you and pulled your little bug legs off.

Good luck finding work.

What a great (and frighteningly accurate) description of the Army and its behavior :)

PS -- The organization, not the people. I have nothing but respect and thanks for our men and women in uniform :)

Scarab Sages

Thanks for the well-wishes, I am accepting all of them that people want to send my way. And mutual best of luck to you Tequila! Damn specialized jobs that we love to do...

In any event, if anyone is heading to Origins, drop me a line (haka21@yahoo.com). I would love to meet up with some of you there.

Best wishes and good luck to you, Gavgoyle. I'm not going to Origins. I had planned to go to GenCon this year, but the odds are rapidly going against me due to work schedule conflicts.

Liberty's Edge

Good luck to you Gav, hope you find a great position somewhere you enjoy...have you looked into Native American excavation sites for possible oppertunities, last I heard USF was doing a big project here in central Florida...

game on...Gaviana Jones, and the Faucet of Doom

It sucks, Matt....our every 3 year inspection by our accreditation organization is over a weekend and my brass is planning to schedule it for the weekend of GenCon....and I'm in charge of the Accreditation/Risk Management/Inspections unit.

What's f~*%ing fair about that? I even have the money saved up now!!!! It'll give the mead another year to age, though.

I just bottled the next batch of the mead as well. I still have some Crafter's Joy left, too, although that stuff went quick.

I'm really pushing hard for an inspection the weekend BEFORE GenCon--but I'm just a Sergeant and the persons making the decisions is an Assistant Chief and a Lieutenant.
