Can shifters reproduce with humans? Elves? Orcs?
And what about the resultant child(ren); are the offspring shifters?
I don't remember where I read this, I think it might have been part of the Keith Baker FAQ on the Wizards boards.
What I remember is that shifters are a "true-breeding race". This means that it doesn't matter who they reproduce with, the kid is still going to be a furry little mutt with a lycanthropic heritage

What I have been wondering is if they have to stay in female form after they have been fertilized; does changing to male abort the pregnancy as all the equipment in the body changes so to carry a child to term does a shapechanger have to stay in some female form with a womb or lay and egg or something; yep; I am bothered by the strangest things.

I think you are referring to the Changelings. The Shifters are the want-to-be lycanthropics. The Changelings are want-to-be doppelgangers.

o.o;;
Wow. Hadn't thought of that... Different.
Kinda similar (but not really), but what would happen if someone was polymorphed into say, a ooze and got chopped, splitting it in two, then poly morphed back to normal?

Depends on how gruesome your DM is. Either you end up with two identical halflings, or two messy, gore-spurting halves of the same person.
